Just to make sure, before continuing on: When you actually did the update,
did you do as you typed (-verifyall), or the proper -verify_all?

There was an issue on the last L4D2 Update with MM and SM but it was fixed in

Subject: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Day of Defeat: Source Update

Required updates to Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat: Source have been
released. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive the updates. The specific
changes include:

  Dedicated server
  - Linux optimizations.
  - Fixed Linux servers not relisting correctly after a master server restart.
  - Fixed a case where servers could have ghost players consuming player
slots.

  Engine
  - Marked the snd_show convar as a cheat.

  Team Fortress 2
  New content:
  - Added new community map cp_freight.
  - Added missing physics models for several items.
  - Added jiggle bones to the Sam Max items, and The Buff Banner.
  - Added Crit-a-Cola.

  Gameplay Changes:
  - Pyro changes:
  - Flamethrower direct damage reduced 20%.
  - Burn duration reduced (10 - 6 seconds).
  - Airblast re-fire delay reduced by 25%.
  - Airblast ammo usage reduced by 20%.
  - All reflected rockets/grenades/arrows now mini-crit.
  - Airblasting enemies into environmental deaths now awards the death credit
to the Pyro.
  - Heavy changes:
  - Minigun spin-up/down time reduced by 25%
  - Minigun firing movement speed increased to just under half-normal (from 80
to 110).
  - Throwing a sandvich to a teammate now earns a full bonus point (was half a
point).
  - Bonk! changes:
  - Post-use movement penalty removed.
  - Now has a re-use cooldown time, like The Sandman.
  - The Chargin' Target changes:
 - Direct charge hit now does 50 damage + 10 per head (up to 5
heads).
 - Capped the turn rate from +left and +right while charging.
  - The Huntsman changes:
  - Removed restriction that arrows need to be aimed before they can be lit by
a Pyro.
  - Bow can now be lowered without losing the lit arrow.
  - Changed bow so you can start charging it while you're jumping, but you
can't fire until you're on the ground.
  - Fixed bug where flame effect would get stuck on if you change weapons with
a lit arrow.
  - Backpack changes:
  - Moved Crafting button out to the root class/backpack selection panel.
  - Dragging and dropping items in your backpack now makes appropriate sounds.
  - Bot changes:
  - Bots don't retreat to gather health as readily if they are in combat.
  - Bots no longer retreat when moving to block a point capture.
  - Bots should now equip an appropriate combat weapon and fight while moving
to collect health.
  - Bots who are roaming the map and hunting now chase down their victims,
following them around corners.
  - Bots That fire projectiles (ie: rockets/grenades/etc) don't hold down their
fire button for a minimum time. This was causing Soldier bots to fire rockets
into nearby walls as they strafed, killing themselves.
  - Soldiers bots now switch to their shotgun after firing all four rockets
when engaging an enemy.
  - Added a few more bot names from community suggestions.
  - Fixed a behavior loop with Engineer metal gathering.
  - The Sandman change:
  - Added a slight speed reduction to stunned players.
  - Community requests
  - Added ConVars log_verbose_enable and log_verbose_interval to report player
positions in the server log at regular intervals
- log_verbose_enable default: 0
- log_verbose_interval default: 3 secs
  - Last-weapon initialization on respawn now sets itself to
be the melee weapon if you don't have a selectable secondary weapon (like The
Razorback).

  Bug Fixes:
  - Fixed an case where The Gunboats didn't apply their damage reduction
properly.
  - The amount count in the HUD now flashes red when you're low on ammo.
  - Extinguishing a burning teammate now earns a full bonus point (was half a
point).
  - Fixed a permanent overheal exploit involving dispensers.
  - Fixed a bug in spectator mode where the user aborted out of freezecam,
setup a spec mode (like IN_EYE), and would then have the setting stomped after
the freezecam timer expired.
  - Fixed bug with disguised spy sometimes seeing his own name in the disguise
status HUD.
  - Fixed a client crash that could result from players with arrows embedded in
them.
  - Fixed items that can be worn by any class having the wrong model when worn
by a disguised Spy.
  - Added missing map prefixes to server browser game types.
  - Killing yourself with your own sentry no longer increments the sentry's
kill counter.
  - Fixed dropped hats sometimes having the wrong team color.
  - Fixed crit-boosted players not getting critical hits if their weapon has
custom no-crit behavior.
  - Fixed the achievement dialog taking a long time to

  Subject: [hlds] Master Server Move

On Wednesday April 14th we will be moving the HL2Master servers to a new set
of IP addresses. One of the major new features is the new Masters should
return dedicated servers ordered by their geographical distance from the player
requesting the server list, making for lower latency and better connections.

Dedicated server operators will generally have to restart their dedicated
servers after this move to ensure they will correctly pick up the new addresses
of the these Masters. The server browser in the Steam client and in games such
as Team Fortress 2 will automatically move to the new Masters.

Server operators that manually set their master servers (we recommend against
this practice however) please use hl2master.steampowered.com to refer to them
instead of the IPs directly. This name returns all Master addresses.

We will update once the move is complete.

It's easier to use the motdfile and hostfile commands in your server.cfg

It will save you a lot of heartache, and gives you better control over

Has anyone been experiencing an issue where their server will experience an
infinite loop, since the patch yesterday these just got kicked into high
gear, I used to get them maybe 2-3 times a week and I just now got them
  twice in 12 hours.

The symptoms are very simple, the server changes map, is on the changed map
for about 1-2 minutes, and then there is an infinite loop. CPU spikes to
100%, etc etc, the only reason why my server even restarts is because of an
external process that ensures the server is alive without that my server
would be down until I manually restart it.

I have tried to rule out any plug-ins that may be causing them by unloading
my plug-ins before the map changes with no dice.

  Server is Windows.

Technically, it has because I mentioned it LOL.

And my L4D1 server still empties out after a day or so and stays empty until

  Hi,

I am noticing much more server crashes since the DLC Update this week.
(beside the bug, that sometimes a server stays used by 4 NPC (Louic,
  Francis, Bill) )

  WinS 2008 Std.

I have one installation running multiple l4d-server instances.

  Anybody else?

  Thx, Greetings

If anyone knows how to perform this exploit, let me know and i'll

Upon finally going to change it (my server only just now emptied out), I
found that the 30s I saw was actually the startup time field. The others
 are
pause (time to wait between checking, default 3s) and timeout (time to
wait for a reply, default 1s). Since I don't think timeout should probably
be at 120, I wasn't sure what to do. Does anyone have a recommendation for
 a
better server monitor? I'm using ServerChecker right now (google for
docs), as it actually checks to see if the game is responding to queries
instead of just checking if the process is alive. I used to use serverdoc,
but changed due to the reasoning in the previous sentence. If there's some
'better' utility I'd love to hear of it

 Thanks again

 Hello.

I'm emailing you today because of a cracked server for your game, Team
Fortress 2. It isn't anything bad, far from, I just wanted to say that I
would like to thank you for allowing someone who can't really afford the
game just yet to be able to play it. Yes, I know, I can't afford a game
for $20 with tax. But with the economy of Canada and the USA failing,
along with my family hitting some hard times, most of my paycheck goes to
paying bills, and the rest of it goes to paying for groceries.

The server I was playing on, Pwndora's Box, was a cracked one, allowing
people without the actual game, to test your game out and play it. It gave
me a chance to just kick back and forget the issues at hand and play with
 some good people.

Though due to the possible crash exploit, that is no longer viable for me
to do anymore, seeing as the server had to go down due to the constant
crashing of some random occurance of someone or something logging on and
taking down the server. It is due to this, and the fact that I have become
far to used to playing your games, I shall be saving up all the money I
can spare over the next month in order to buy your game.

 Sincerely
 Winston Doan

[hlds] server hacked ?

2008-05-25 Thread -xL-Trinidad
hi,

since my server didot respond anymore I checked it and the console was
visible but didnt react and didnt take any inputs. The funny thing was, that
in the srcds console behind the server name in the window title there stood
'-ftp -i -t -v' and the firewall reported that .../system32/ftp.exe tried co
contact an ip. Question: is this a bug, a feature, normal behavior ar have I
beed hacked?

you have to disable the mani afk kicker, I installed the sourcemod one
instead after tuesdays update, Im thinking of switching totally over to
sourcemod now. if you want to give it a try they are updating the
gamestype.txt over at mani, but it didn't really work for me.

I tend to agree. The only reason I was even aware of the box was through
this mailing list, and I read the update news. But I can tell you that most
gamers are just going to click past that tiny box without caring what was in
the box. They figure, if its important I'll get the message again, but I
want to play a game right now!

...And don't take that as an invitation to make that dialog box show up
everytime you open the browser either, in hopes someone will see it.

VALVe, please, just accept for once you've made a mistake, a screw up.
 We'll
forgive you, things like this can happen. But for god sakes, take that
 damn
tab out of the server browser!

Another effect of this tabs, which it looks like you haven't taken in
account, is that all 'noob' players are on the internet tab. As with
 result
you have mostly only servers now on that tab were idiots play who keep
spamming and screaming shit, abusing bugs etc etc. And the default servers
are mostly not really closely monitored by admins, so the abuse keeps
 going
on 24/7. Good improvement on the game impression for new players! I'm sure
they love playing in that kind of environment!

update released There seems to be this trend in PC gaming where
developers want to control the game experience in online play more and
more. The most extreme case would be DICE and the ranked servers for
 BF2
and 2142. More and more the options we as admins have to host a game
 the
way we want to play it are being taken away. In my opinion, this has
stemmed from the consoles where developers and publishers have
 complete
control over the gaming experience. That model will never work in the
 PC
gaming world. I am really frustrated with how out of touch the devs
 and
publishers have become. From this problem with the custom tabs in TF2

console ports we get for a lot of games anymore I just have to shake my

nope, sry, if the server keeps crashing frequently you can take it offline
as well. i think no1 wants to play on such a server. and for a public fun

Yes, but putting sv_pure to 0 opens up the hole for all the hacks again.
I
haven't noticed the crashes that others are reporting but I can tell you
that if I was I would take the crash over the hackers.

Create a cp_dustbowl.cfg file and set mp_maxrounds 4. Since no matter
what a successful defense will end a round (one team's turn on
offense) four will be enough that both get to go twice. I just
checked it out and it seemed to work fine.

The last couple of days I'm getting strange tf2 server crashes.

I'm running windows 2003 with the latest updates and a 24 original (no 32
crack) tf2 server. I can run tf2 for like 1 day stable. After that the
server is crashing and ill get a error like:

-

Application popup: srcds.exe - Application Error : The instruction at
0x0d7212e3 referenced memory at 0x01ad. The memory could not be
read.

Click on OK to terminate the program

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I cannot tell when the problem accurse, because restarting the server
every
evening doesn't help. This is btw the only problem I getting this message.
The other programs I'm running on the server are running fine. This
problem
accurse sinds the last weeks (think 3 weeks). Before that the server was
running fine for weeks.

Don't think it's a problem on the hardware side. Server is a quadcore with
3
gb memory.

Does anyone have the same problem or have a solution?

Eric
