Re: [hlds] Possible cause and fix for the recent group crashes
Considering the changes between 1.4.0 and 1.4.1, this seems unlikely. Could you give it another shot and see if you see the same behaviour? Re: [hlds] Possible cause and fix for the recent group crashes
We run a Saxton Hale server and a lot of client crashes and some server crashes point in the direction of custom player models. In particular it seems to happen when a player with a custom model dies on the client, while I'm not quite sure on the server. I'm also rather scared of the bone setup code they have since it seems to crash one of our gamemode servers constantly and could be related to the client crashes as well. This is annoying, and I bet for the average player it must be fun to be in a great game then suddenly crash and return to a near empty server. This issue was discussed on the HLDS mailing list for a while and was met with a fix that only lessened the frequency, but this happening at all is still an issue. Long story short, my theory as to fix it? Download custom player models. See, I own and run 3 popular servers, and two of them will have this issue repeatedly, maybe a game a day at least. But our third? It only happens once in a blue moon. This particular server also features a mod where you can change your player model. I've noticed that the custom models don't attach cosmetic items very well, this may be an issue. Needless to say, try downloading different player models, maybe the HD versions, custom characters, what have you and look for a difference. If it turns out to be an issue with player models (Not impossible considering how there are new attachment zones made for them all constantly with the new items that we've seen recently.) then narrowing down this will hopefully allow valve to patch it correctly. -- *Matthew (Rowedahelicon) Robinson* Web Designer / Artist / Writer Website - http://www.rowedahelicon.com/ ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds

No, the random drops of clients isn't related to this. If there is such exploit, it's a separate issue. Not everyone crashes off on our servers when the crash event occurs. Sometimes they all do crash though. -ics 5.3.2012 17:16, Ken Bateman kirjoitti: On Mon, Mar 5, 2012 at 2:51 AM, Rowedahelicon theoneando...@rowedahelicon.com mailto:theoneando...@rowedahelicon.com wrote: *Hey everybody, Rowdy here with some information for you. Re: [hlds] Possible cause and fix for the recent group crashes
Yep - been seeing this more lately. 12-15 players all crash at once, with no discernible cause. At this point, I think it's an engine/steam issue, but who knows - there could very well be another exploit in the wild. Hopefully, the TF2 team is aware and tracking down a cause. For what it's worth, if this helps... I have noticed that my Linux servers have this crashing issue whereas my Windows server does not. Also, I just recently got around to updating SM from 1.4.0 to 1.4.1. Once I did this, the crashes increased by 10 fold and I was forced to downgrade back to 1.4.0. All of my servers are windows 2008 R2 64bit, and the problem persists on them, so I don't think it's an OS issue.
