Re: [hlds] GoldSrc installs using steamcmd still not fixed?

2018-01-12 Thread Lorne Mock
I have run SteamCMD half a dozen times 3 or 4 times a day for the last week. I
only get the root folder files. The valve folder only contains the dlls folder
with director.dll and hl.dll files. Nothing else is ever downloaded. Yet the
steamcmd says fully updated with the validate command being used.

You can get all the files / folds downloading from the steam browser tools. But
that is for a listen server. Will only download to a game client. It does not
ask for a download location.

At this point, no servers installed through steamcmd drive Valve's revenue.
Valve doesn't seem to care about GoldSrc and they run their own servers for all
their currently updated Source games.

Third-party games are a different story, as the TripWire representative on this
list can probably tell you.

This sounds suspiciously like a race condition. Is there any reason steamcmd
hasn't been updated to fix this? I can't imagine it'd be that difficult to
prioritize processing downloads forced by the app_set_config command first
before starting the actual application update. Particularly since for appid
90, this includes downloading the actual appmanifest files that tell steamcmd
what to install.

Re: [hlds] GoldSrc installs using steamcmd still not fixed?

2018-01-01 Thread Sam Vanheer
When it to comes to GoldSource Valve only fixes critical issues, as in
issues that can be used as exploits, client->server or server->client
crashes, arbitrary code execution, etc.

Basically anything that could get Valve sued gets fixed. This is not one
of those issues, so i figure they don't bother to look into it, possibly
also out of fear that it might break even more if they do try to fix it
(has happened before).

I'm sending my reply to some Valve employees as well, maybe one of them
will notice this email and help out, always good to raise awareness.
(Maybe also consider helping out with engine access if you folks see this)

Hi.
To add to this I also don’t like having to upload my entire valve directory and
installing HLDS just to add another work around.

While I don't deal with GoldSrc myself, I'm still seeing complaints from
people about steamcmd not installing them properly on the first try.

This sounds suspiciously like a race condition.  Is there any reason
steamcmd hasn't been updated to fix this?  I can't imagine it'd be that
difficult to prioritize processing downloads forced by the
app_set_config command first before starting the actual application
