In some cases you might want to specify the code set IBM-1047 rather
than IBM-037. There are unfortunately [at least] two conflicting
EBCDIC-based code sets in common use on z/OS: IBM-037 for applications
from the 3270 tradition, IBM-1047 for applications from the C Language

Hi,
Recently I have installed the EXIT IEFU29 in our test bed to automatically
start an IFASMFDP job every time the SMF data set is switched, But I have
clarification if it is possible to stop the EXIT invocation when there is
need to analyze the SMF Record dataset ?

You mean, analyze the SMF MAN datasets?
Apology for not being more precise Not MAN dataset I meant the Record in
which we dump the SMF MAN datasets.
Like below:
//SMFDMPD$ JOB MSGCLASS=X,MSGLEVEL=(1,1),CLASS=B,
// REGION=5M,NOTIFY=SYSUID
We create a new GDG member every SMFDMP, but has about the same
consequences.
When your dataset or our GDG is being read for analyzes, SMFDMP must
wait before it can write to it.
When SMFDMP runs, the analyzes must wait until SMFDMP ends.
We don't consider this a problem.

I used to program the Leo's during the 1960's at Shell, in Melbourne.

Hi list,
I have a couple questions about commands that can be run from the console.
First of all, is there a console command that can be used to display the MAC
address of an OSA port?
Second, is there a console command to ping an IP address out an OSA port?
I scanned the manuals and didn't
Rex,
How are the machines connected, I saw OSA but , router ? A lot of routers have
ping turned off.
Secondly, Ping can be used via TSO, no problem , also Traceroute ..

The REXX SDSF interface can do that. I believe that there were a lot of
discussions about that interface in the archievs.

We are looking into this, but there are so many system libraries that could be
changed, it needs a lot of thought to get it right.
Thanks

To get the OSA MAC address, use the following MVS command:
DISPLAY TCPIP,,OSAINFO
For PING, there is console command that uses EZACMD. Example:
%%EZACMD 'ping -v w3.ibm.com'
See the Comm Server manual IP
Sys Admin Commands for details about using these two commands.

For the OSAINFO command, I forgot to add that you need to tell it what
interface you want the info on.
DISPLAY TCPIP,,OSAINFO,INTFName_= intf_name

You may want to look at SYSChange from Pristine Software (www.pristineusa.com).
This tool goes past the typical applications change management support and
automatically includes system level change management. If you want to know
more, drop me an email.

Mitch McCluhan,
Also need to add about OSAINFO is that you need to be on z/OS v1.12 or later.

We use Endevor for Application Software, but never set it up for use for system
datasets. However, the application that uses Endevor will be moving off the
mainframe within a year.

Scott,
Couldn't get to TSO. All we had was the MVS console session thru the HMC.
We found the issue. We are using 2 port/chpid OSA cards and I had forgotten
the PORTNUM=1 command in the VTAM TRLE so my attempts to talk TCP/IP were going
to lala-land.
Thanks.

We use Endevor for application change management. Some of our routine system
monitoring, and backups are jobs managed by Endevor.
IMO, Endevor is not suited for system change management. There are products
that are, but they are expensive.

I have written a COBOL output reformatter that invokes the compiler
