It appears that SAS is getting some competition from WPS
http://teamwpc.co.uk/press/press_statement_le_claim
WPS licensing their product on zlinux hopefully will give SAS and incentive
to do the same.

Tim,
I think you also left out ULC pricing. ULC is a lot simplier to administer
than
VWLC and depending on your environment, can deliver far greater savings and
high LPAR utilizations.

Alan,
Thankx for your response...from an IBM business perspective this makes sense.
It is interesting to inquire from a customer perspective if customers would be
willing to pay more for an AIX zSeries special purpose engine and for the AIX
license.
For example, what if the IFA cost $250,000
I guess I did not adequately qualify my original question...let me try again...
Why doesn't IBM create a special purpose engine, similar to the IFL, for AIX.
Lets call it an IFA. Would not AIX running on a zSeriers special purpose
engines generate benefits similar to Linux on IFL's.
Why is not AIX ported to z/Series?
It should provide the customer the same benefits as Linux on z/Series

IMHO,IBM has not ported and licensed AIX to zSeries... because IBM does
not want zSeries competing directly with AIX and Pseries servers.

Timothy,
Internal customers do not ask your question, How do you measure the total
performance of the whole IT organization?
They are really only interested in the total cost of acquistion or internal
chargeback (excluding power and environmentals) and application performance.
This thread still begs the issue of benchmarking a representative business
application across multilple platforms.
What application architecture runs across all platforms (z/series, intel,
pseries)
and operating systems (z/OS, Linux, Unix)?
I'd like to suggest SAS. A SAS application that is
