OTOH, I think that products with defaults that conform to *my* modus
operandi are written by people who are perceptive, intelligent, and
sensitive to the worker's needs. :-)

I like Nexus.
It is one of very few emulators which properly support polish codepage.
Avg response time is 2-4 days. Including improvements wishes, like
more macro buttons or cursor shape.
Oh, it is the *fastest* emulator I know.
And probably one of the smallest (approx. 1,5MB).

FWIW I just tried running Vista under WINE (0.9.24). It installs almost
without a hitch, and seems to run -- I connected to a host, signed on
