CA-MIM is now working!

IBM wanted to do some resiliance testing on our FICON infastructure, 'cos it's

our production systems, so that the ops
All,
Thanks for your help thus far.
Mark Z,
Thanks for having a go at this for me. good to know what it's supposed to do!
Yes, the FCTC's are online at both ends.
Binyamin - that's all there is! There is nothing else.
Mark D,
Hmm, I'll check that now - thnaks!
Mark D,
You could be on to something here. Our current CUADD is a single digit, which
refers to the system the FCTC is communicating with, i.e cuadd=2
I'll change it to 02 on our test system, and see what happens.
Vince.

Nope, that didn't work.
Even though I type '02', it keeps reverting to '2'. Back to the drawing
board
Thnaks though!

Hi all,
The site I'm on is replacing GRS with CA-MIM.
This is mainly 'cos they don't have a 'PLEX, but do have two closely coupled
LPARS on different CECS.
Both of those CECS will be moving to different remote sites, and connectivity
will be over FCTC's.
From what I know, GRS will only
Hi guys,
Not a tool, but I know of a company, based in the UK, that will audit your
zSeries estate, compare what they find against the licenses you hold, and
tell you what they found depolyed (as opposed to installed), and where you
are over or under licensed.
They came into our shop, and whilst
I'd also be interested in any comments, as we're looking to do exactly the
same thing.
We're also considering replacing: -
Abend/AID Abend/AID CICS with Fault analyser
Xpediter TSO Xpediter CICS with Debug tool
Strobe iStrobe with Application performance analyser
Any other comments or
Doesn't Innovations FDR/Upstream do this?
From the product page: -
FDR/UPSTREAM provides file level backups directly to z/OS mainframe tape or
DASD. UPSTREAM backups/restores and file transfers can be Automatically
Initiated from the z/OS mainframe and can be completely automated with

All,
Thanks for the assist.
We had an engineer in to deal with a VTS problem, and asked him to check
the convienience.
There turned out to be a piece of plastic from a cartridge which had become
detached causing the sensors to fail, leaving the robot in output mode.
This is now sorted.
Hi all,
I've just had an operator tell me that our 3494 robot is not inserting the
carts (last weeks backup carts returned from offsite) he is putting into the
I/O
convenience.
I've checked the machine, and everything seems to be ok.
Why would the system NOT put a cart into insert mode?
TIA.
All,
Thanks for your help and assistance.
We've found a REXX which trolls through the system log of z/OS, VSE or VM,
identifies various tape messages, works out how long each mount has taken
and an overall average mount time.
It's just what we need, so I think we will be using this.
Thanks
Hi all,
I'm being asked if it's possible to produce an average time it's taking our ops
to mount a cartridge (yes we still have manual drives) on a z/OS 1.4 system
and a VSE V3 system.
I don't have SAS or anything similar on these machines, but could 'port' SMF
data to a system that does have
I do not know about VSE but in the pre library/virtual tape days we had
a task that was shipped as part of MICS or MXG that cut SMF records
containing the time from the mount message to the DOM.
Thanks Dennis, but I don't have SAS, MICS or MXG (or much of anything
useful!) on these systems.
Hi all,
I'm also trying to do this install, and have followed the Read Me up to the
same point as the original poster, however, I'm, getting a different issue

OMVS under TSO - z/os 1.9):-

Don't you just LOVE consistency?
As I'm working in a test LPAR, I changed SMFPRMxx to MEMLIMIT=1T, and
now Marks rexx now shows: -
V I R T U A LS T O R A G EU S A G E
---
You can change your SMFPRMxx to include SUBSYS(OMVS,EXITS(...,...)
and leave out IEFUSI. Then SET SMF=xx.
In the SMFPRM that I'm using, I have: -
SUBSYS(OMVS,NOTYPE(4,5,19,20,40,62,63,65:69,99)
NOEXITS,INTERVAL(01),DETAIL)
So IEFUSI isn't affecting OMVS, right?
Shouldn't I be
All,
Thanks for the responses.
The two TEMS are both hub TEMS.
It turns out that the TEMS on the LPAR I was trying to connect to started
before TCPIP, which is why I couldn't connect to it.
I've bounced the TEMS on z/OS, and the TEPS on my PC.
Now, when I try to start the TEPS client, I get
Thanks again for all the help.
I tried putting CMS_VALIDATE=NO into the KDSENV member of my RKANPARU
library on z/OS, bounced the TEMS, and re-tried the logon.
No Joy.
So I installed the whole TEPS onto a collegues PC, in case I had done
something wrong, and noted that NOWHERE did it prompt
Hi all,
I'm in the process of trying to install TEPS (Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server)
on
my PC (for testing).
We have two LPARS, each with it's own TEMS (Tivoli Enterprise Management
Server - Don't ask me why we have two - histerical, er, sorry, historical)
I've configured the TEPS to look
Sandro,
Are you referring to section 4.5.5, Creating commands from the extract
data ?
If so, the text does NOT say there is a sample REXX. It DOES say: -
A REXX program can be used to generate the restore commands from the list
We recommend using the REXX language to do this
In the REXX
I've had a little more info, from an unconfirmed source.
I understand that IBM ARE looking at liquid chilling (note the change) for the

However it's likely to be liquid gas, rather than water.

Hi all,
I've heard a rumor / picked up a sniff that the Z11 is likely to be water
cooled / have a water cooled component.
Anybody know any more?

Guys,
Thanks for all your responses, I'll try to respond to all the queries here.
The z/OS system in question is indeed a guest of the VM system we want to
submit JCL to it from. (Does that make sense?)
We don't have RSCS, and don't want to license it just for this.
We're running the guest
Hi all, and a happy and (un)eventful new year to you all.
One of our sysprogs has come to me with a question, and I think I know the
answer, but wanted to check my thinking.
We use FTP to submit jobs to a z/OS guest from VM, but he would like to set
up a mechanism that does not rely on TCP/IP
Hi all,
We are currently running z/os 1.5, and have a usermod to change our SMF
buffer sizes, increment size and maximum useage, as per APAR OW56001.
We currently use an initial size of 128M and increment of 24M.
We are in the process of migrating to 1.7, and I see that this APAR /
usermod will
