software license information into ZAO to enable reporting on the status of
z/OS software products and their licenses.

Hi David,
Sorry, I don't know the MLC for DITTO. However, in case you and others are
not aware, IBM File Manager was developed on top of DITTO and includes most
of the functions provided by DITTO. So if you have File Manager you may not
need to continue paying for DITTO.

Hi Radoslaw,
Regarding ISPF statistics, you can specify the option STATS=OFF to prevent
the DSC function updating the ISPF statistics for PDS/E members that are
copied. The default is STATS=ON, which updates the statistics for each
member copied.

The z/OS XL C/C++ DSECT conversion utility (

Just wanted to add to my earlier post. The disassembler provided with the
Assembler Toolkit is now part of HLASM and shipped as load module ASMADOP
in SYS1.MIGLIB. Looks like this was done with APAR PQ27453 back in 1999!

In response to Peter's question: "what are application programmers coding
64-bit programs (well, 31-bit resident code that uses 64-bit storage areas,
to be specific) supposed to use for abend debugging?", IBM Fault Analyzer
supports analysis of abends in 64-bit applications.

If you happen to have IBM File Manager for z/OS it will allow you to copy
messages in a queue to a data set. With File Manager you can also view/edit
messages in a queue and optionally have the messages formatted based on the
layout defined in a COBOL copybook.

Hi Robert,
You can specify the code page on the WSCON service call. For example:
"wscon ip(ipaddr) noguidsp codepage(1047) charset(697)"
Support allowing code page 1047 to be used with WSCON was added with z/OS
2.1.

Just to add to John Eells' post, you can also delete all PDS/E members
and reinitialize
the directory using ISPF option 3.1 (Library Utility) by specifying Option
D (Delete member) and * for the PDS/E member name (e.g. 'MY.TEST.PDSE(*)').

I'm not 100% sure but I think STOW 'I' may also be used when you enter 'S *
D' in the command field for an enhanced member list.

The plan was to document the JSON message formats in the ISPF Services
Guide for the z/OS release following 1.13. With z/OS moving to a 2 year
cycle it's taken longer than planned for the formats to be published. They
will be in the ISPF for z/OS 2.1 Services Guide.

For z/OS 1.5 ISPF option 3.1 was modified to use STOW I when the D (Delete
member) option is specified along with an * for the member name, e.g.
'VANDYKE.PDS(*)'
