My guess is that the key does not exist in CKDS before starting the operation. When a key is used securely, it is fetched into the CEX card while encrypted under the master key.. Then it is decypted and is available for use. But that is just base upon the phrase secure key import.. Any secure key

Actually I think you meant 30051, not 30015. I seem to remember somewhere in the past, that IBM recommended the 30051 rather than the 32760 because the DS boxes carved out the physical storage in multiples of 1113 cylinders, which is an old mod1 size. Whether or not that still holds true,
