One more and I'll leave it to the historians. My dad E.J.,Jr., uncle Wag,
granddad E.J. Sr. and great uncle Woolsey all made it thru unscathed. They

Dear Ruby,

I am in France again after 25 years and it looks pretty much the same.
Have had considerable rain but it is not as cold as England and seems to be
a little dryer atmosphere anyway my sinus is not bothering me as it did in
England.
Think I will feel better over here. We are due to get some regular rations today
and start cooking again.

I Went over to see E.J.(son) yesterday he is only about 12 or 15 miles
from me
at present, he is looking fine and getting along alright. While I was over to
see
E.J., Woolsey(brother) came to see me. I missed him but will see him again as we
are not far apart right now. Have not seen Wagner(son) yet but know where his
outfit
is and hope to see him before long.

I am working over a big area and will have my companies well scattered. I
do not
have the experienced officers I should have but hope they will learn. Will be
glad
when our mail gets straightened out and coming through again.

Have been plenty busy over here and will be from now on I guess. We are
getting
along fine, so you all take care of yourselves and don’t worry about us over
here.
I am somewhat out of touch with what is going on except right in this theatre,
but
it looks like we should get this part of the war over before too long.

With all my love,
Your loving husband

Dear STANLEY and MEMBERS OF TUSCALOOSA ROTARY CLUB

About three weeks ago I received a letter on which each one of you had
written a note of encouragement, a bit of news about friends, or a prayer for
victory and safe return to Tuscaloosa. This letter was read and appreciated by
me more than I am able to tell you. It brought back memories of the city of
Tuscaloosa and of the people there. I now have in my possession a sheet of
paper which has written on it the signatures of the members of the Tuscaloosa
Rotary Club,--a paper which I shall keep and reread from time to time.

As far as my work over here, about all I can say is that I am in the
Corps of Engineers. We are called on to do all kinds of work and some bit of
fighting as Infantry.

Perhaps you might be interested in a personal experience or two. Bear
in mind that we cannot mention any action of any type until after two weeks
have passed, and then no locations or specific dates.

One afternoon we had pulled into bivouac near a beautiful old French
Chateau. Up to this time we had seen very little of the German Air Force. We
heard the drone of engines overhead. Someone asked what kind of planes over us,
and received the assurance that they were P-47’s or 51’s. No sooner had he been
answered than the first plane turned a quarter and went into a dive to strafe
the area, and the first bomb hit the ground. For about five minutes, which
seemed more like five hours, they crisscrossed the roads close to us and our
area with machine guns and small bombs. Score—nothing to nothing. We missed
them and they didn’t shoot so well either. Since then the score is more in our
favor.

Another rather foolish incident might be related. Several times French
citizens have stopped out vehicles to warn us of the fact that German elements
control roads you are trying to use. One night there was a fair amount of
traffic on a road and the vehicle, a jeep, was stopped by a Frenchman. We were
told that there were some Germans just ahead.(we were travelling to the rear).
While we were stopped an armored vehicle of some kind passed. We decided it
would be better to get them to capture whoever was in front of us since we had
no protection on the jeep. Turning around we caught up with the car and driving
alongside tried to stop them. Much to our surprise it was a German vehicle.
Don’t know who was scared the most be we didn’t stay around to find out. A jeep
won’t fly very high, but it will fly.

Hope I haven’t bored you too much with a lot of words in which you are
not interested. Wish all of you the best of luck in everything.
Sincerely,

Edward J. Finnell Jr.

Re: SVC display

2016-11-11 Thread Lizette Koehler
From the manual: z/OS z/OS 2.1.0 z/OS MVS z/OS MVS Diagnosis:
Reference System Reference SVC summary SVC routines Naming
conventions for SVC routinee

Naming conventions for SVC routines
SVC routines are load modules which are named as follows:

The routines for SVC types 1, 2 and 6 are named IGCxxx, where xxx is the
SVC number (decimal).
The routines for SVC types 3 and 4 are named IGC00xxx, where xxx is the SVC
number.

If a type 4 SVC routine calls for multiple SVC loads, the naming convention
is to identify each load by increasing 00 by one. For example, IGC03xxx
indicates the third module loaded within a type 4 SVC routine.

For types 3 and 4 SVC routines, the internal format of the SVC number (xxx)
is zoned decimal with a four-bit sign code (1100) in the four high-order bits
of the low order byte. Any low-order digit in a type 3 or 4 SVC number that is
between 1 and 9 will be an EBCDIC character between A and I in the load module
name. For example, the load module name for SVC 51 (X'33') would be IGC0005A
because the low order byte is 1100 0001, or A in zoned decimal. A low-order
zero in the SVC number corresponds to a hexadecimal C0 in the load module name.

ESR type 3 routines have names in the format IGX00nnn, where nnn is the
decimal code placed in register 15 when SVC 109 is issued

From this you can see what the convention is for naming an SVC. Depending on
what SVC you are looking for (TYPE1/2/3/4/6 or a Router), you would look for
the name. If you have a tool like MXI, SHOWMVS, Omeagmon, Sysview, SAS, etc...
You can scan the system either live or after the fact.

If you try ISRDDN and use the LPA command then search for the module name you
can see if it is in a library.

you might try searching the internet and see if anyone created REXX code to go
through control blocks to display SVCs.

Setting up existing EMC DLM/DD in DR

2016-11-11 Thread Lizette Koehler
I am trying to establish the DLm/DD that is currently running in our Sandbox in
our DR Plex in the same CEC.

The Data is replicated from our production environment. This uses a different
DLm/DD setup which has a unique name, call it BOB, in production.

In our Sandbox the DLm/DD is called Fred.

So when we replicate our DASD and TAPE the BOB name is in the SMS
configuration. But BOB does not exist in our CEC in the Sandbox where our DR
system can be brought up.

What is the easiest way to get BOB available in DR and allow us to use the
replicated tapes in DR.

From what I can see the SMS information all has BOB in it. ISMF Option 10
shows BOB. The ACS Codes for DR have BOB. But the only DLm/DD I have
available is FRED.

Can I code FRED in the Production environment even though it will never be used
and adjust my ACS routines as needed?
Is there a way to make BOB available in DR? Or do I need to Use FRED and
adjust the DR SMS environment to use FRED for my DR production environment?

My guess is I have to manually update my DR Production to use FRED. But that
is a grues..

Any thoughts or guidance will be appreciated.

X'1C' would be packed decimal. X'C1' is zoned decimal. The last byte

Re: SVC display

2016-11-11 Thread Lindy Mayfield
Hi Jake,

Almost all systems have the level 2 diagnostic utility ISRFIND. So you can run
that (TSO ISRFIND from ISPF), put in the load module name, if it's a type 4 ESR
the name will be IGX00nnn where nnn is the SVC number. So if it is SVC 201
then you'll put IGX00201 in the Member name field, then for Loadmod field put Y.

When you hit enter you can scroll down and on the right half of the screen when
you see the member name you'll know what library it is loaded in.

If it's a standard user SVC, then the loadmod name is IGC0020A. (The last
letter is in packed decimal x'c1' in this case.)

HTH,
Lindy
