It's very sad that the IBM response to selling a smaller machine to sites based on their needs is that they should get a bigger box or buy a zIIP. I don't think that's really an acceptable response from IBM. Sadly, there really isn't going to be any other option(s) provided. For my clients

One more idea if you have PDSMAN is to enable the PDS Member usage function and that will cut user defined smf records to give you exact report who using it for what purposeotherwise ofcourse like others pointed out writing syslog or smf30 stepname may help.
