CF has to make the round trip there and back again.
When looking at response times .. distance can make a difference.

There was a great SHARE presentation in early nineties of one site that built a
data center a few miles across the valley with their own fiber only to have the
highway department come along and blew off a section for road widening. They
had to pull across old train trestles and abandoned mines
