Think Sri has the right solution. Your mailer is trying to insert a nice pretty
graphic and gets processed asan attachment. Another option is use the web
interface at listserv.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html to view and respondto
postings.

THANKS to everyone for your advice and links. I've decided to go ahead and
implement.

I've tried to no avail to say THANKS to everyone for your advice and links.
I've decided to go ahead and implement.

Whenever I tried to reply (and I tried several times with different content) my
email was returned saying:

"Your posting to the IBM-MAIN list has been rejected because it contains an
attachment of type 'IMAGE/GIF'. The IBM-MAIN list has been configured to reject
suchattachments.Pleasecontact thelistownerat

I don't see any attachment of any kind ... how is it I should 'reply' to a post?

I did send an email to the list owner but have gotten no response. Thanks in
advance in case I cannot 'reply'.

Bonnie,

Use the option "Reply with Internet-style History" instead of plain reply
and you won't have that error.

Re: BCPII services

2020-10-09 Thread Jesse 1 Robinson
To the main question, would there be a problem with starting BCPii at any time,
I would say no problem. In our early experience with sysplex, we restarted
BCPii any number of times before we got it right. If the task is missing
something it needs, it will tell you so. You will need some HMC updates, also
dynamic.

The best feature of BCPii is AUTOIPL. While running z/OS 1.12, we had one
development system that mysteriously IPLed itself. Turns out it was running
clean out of real storage, usually in the middle of the night when no one was
logged on, so no one complained. AUTOIPL detected the wait state and IPLed the
failing LPAR. I don't think it's ever happened in production, but it satisfies
*long* standing advice to reIPL a dead system ASAP.

The HWIBCPII task would usually be started at IPL time but you can also issue
the "S HWISTART" command to start/restart it. There is a very good presentation
from Steve Warren "BCPii for Dummies: Start to Finish - Installation, Setup
and Usage". Do a Google search for it.
There are some setup tasks to be done on the HMC, RACF (or whatever ESM you
use) definitions.

If you want to make use of things such as Capacity Provisioning Manager (CPM),
AutoIPL etc, then BCPii needs to be in place.

I think the issue has more to do with the security permissions on the lpar
image profile. There are a couple of BCPII check boxes there that need to be
checked.

Re: BCPII services

2020-10-09 Thread Steve Horein
We have HWIBCPII running on our KSYS, but as far as I know, nothing
exploits it.
The intent *was *to have homegrown automation make use of it, but at the
time (and it may still be the case), most of the functionality was
"read-only", meaning requesting a LOAD or SYSRESET wasn't possible. We
leverage ProcOps using SNMP to automate IPL/SAD/etc., so HWIBCPII basically
sits idle now.
