Re: [ilugd] ubuntu 9.04 10.10
Hi vivek, If you have the disk with you goto the linux rescue environment and try mount -n -o remount,rw / . This will remount your system in read write mode. And you can fix the broken system using the command sudo dpkg --configure -a and sudo update-grub. This is problem is with mostly with Ubuntu users who try to upgrade their systems but machine fails to boot after upgradations. So try these commands and let us know if that works.good luck...:) Regards Aman Thakur ___ Ilugd mailing list Ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd
Re: [ilugd] ubuntu 10.10
Hi vivek, Vivek do you have any other OS installed in your hard drive? I mean is it a dual boot machine or just a ubuntu? If it is a dual boot, then, Is your machine working fine with the other Operating system? Even i faced this problem with my P4 machine. It was a dual boot machine having Ubuntu 9.10 and WinXP, and it was hanging after 10-15 min of boot. But that was an hardware issue. So, you should check your hardware also. One way to do that and ensure that your hardware is working fine is, try running Ubuntu Live session with the ubuntu CD/DVD. If it hangs the live session then its definitely a hardware problem else your hardware is working fine, it just a problem with the software. So, then you can try upgrading your ubuntu system if its possible else re-installing is the best way to fix all issue...:) Regards Aman Thakur ___ Ilugd mailing list Ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd

Re: [ilugd] Ubuntu 10.04 got crashed
Hi Rakesh, I agree with the Mahesh in his both the above messages. I think there should be a different /home partition. And for fixing your broken ubuntu system, you should try to go in rescue mode and reinstall the grub. If unsuccessfull then try to goto into the grub command line fix it as mahesh said above But i am not sure whether it works out for you or not. Since problem came during update, so it might a problem of broken packages. So try fixing grub first then let us know the output..so that we can have more idea of the problem. Re: [ilugd] ubuntu not supporting to HP laptop - Pavilion dv2700
Hi Arun, I think your fdisk -l is already showing the error in your partition scheme. Your partition#1 doesn't end the desired cylinder. Thats why system showing error in fstab. May be system is not able to find the find the correct info in the file /etc/fstab for the partition#1. According to me, if possible then you should create your partition#1 again in correct manner using fdisk utility or gparted. And edit fstab accordingly. Re: [ilugd] Server is hacked, pl. advice
Hi abhishek, I agree with the guys who are supporting a reinstall here. Even my linux (RHEL 5.5) Virtual machine was compromised once because i didn't updated it regularly. Someone gained root access to my machine. I tried so many things at that time. But finally there was only one solution and that is reinstall. So just backup you data, only data and reinstall your system. And update your system with the latest security updates. Even if you succeed fixing this system, even then there are chances for the system to be compromised once again. Because it may be possible that attacker may have generated a vulnerability into the system. So, reinstall is the best way to ensure the security and is a permanent fix. Thats the only way to secure your system. And i hope you must be having a good idea about the rootkits now.:) Regards Aman Thakur ___ Ilugd mailing list Ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd

Hi Narender, I have been doing network installation of RHEL5.2/RHEL5.4 for the last 4-5 months on a regular basis. So if you are installing Redhat Distibution then I would suggest you to go for KICKSTART, if you have the similar configuration computer systems. Even you can customize your network installation. So best way is to make DHCP PXE BOOT Server and do network install. But if you are doing it on others Distros then go with Cobbler. That too is good and easy.
