IMHO, in a quest to replace Windows it has gone the Windows way by introducing malicious features like Spyware[1] in it. Whoa, let me just stop you right there for a moment. Ubuntu is the name of the whole project but also the name of some products/flavors . So this is clearly aimed towards a particular flavor. Just wanted to clarify that before proceeding. So personally I don't use it or recommend it to anyone, moreover for me Debian Release party was more of community event, to celebrate the release of a universal GNU/Linux OS which has been there for a long time, almost 20 years, with most of things taken care by volunteers while Ubuntu is more of the Canonical thing now. So IMHO I don't think we can have a release party together, for them. I strongly disagree with the statement that Ubuntu is merely `a Canonical thing now`. There are various flavors of Ubuntu like Kubuntu / Xubuntu / Lubuntu which have a strong community side attached to it. I find it offensive that you chastise the entire community for the actions of a company that is just one aspect of the whole Ubuntu ecosystem. Not taking sides, but Canonical provides alot of tools, infrastructure and manpower that allows all these flavors to come to fruition. Not to mention that alot of foundations work done in Ubuntu finds its way back into Debian. Don't want to start a Debian v/s Ubuntu debate, here because IMHO they are incomparable, with the kind of purposes for which they are developed. Neither do I, everyone is entitled to their opinions, however, it seems to me you have a very limited view of what Ubuntu is. Now that I've (hopefully) widened your view a bit, would you still be open to the idea of having a Ubuntu + Debian release party? I strongly believe that both Ubuntu and Debian need each other in order to survive and that there should be more friendly relationships between the two. Debian will not need Ubuntu to survive but Ubuntu will always need Debian. -Sudhanwa ~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~! I've been to the UID registration camp in my area. There is no involvement of linux/open source software. The data entry module was made in .NET and was working on an HCL laptop with Windows. Re: [ilugd] Koha and DSpace Implementation Agencies
Hi all I am looking for companies and commercial entities who have experience of Koha and Dsapce installation. Please forward suggestions/contacts if any as we are planning to deploy Koha and DSpace within our organisation. 1. Their is a commercial entity based in thane http://www.anantcorp.com/which provide these services. The snip from their website says : ''Granthalaya.org ( www.granthalaya.org ) and Anant Corporation ( www.anantcorp.com ) are very pleased to announce general availability of Koha hosting on granthalaya.org server located in VPM, Thane ( www.vpmthane.org ) datacenter.'' and VPM thane is the entity that is behind Kohacon 2011 ( http://kohacon11.vpmthane.org/ocs/index.php/k/k11 ) .Also not to forget if you check the web archives you will see that anantcorp is also involved in the community that is big plus . 2. Delhi Public Library uses Koha at a much broader scale , so If you know anyone their you can also get valuable suggestion regrading this. 3. Indranil Das Gupta involved in (snip from his fb phtos caption) The town library phase of the WBPUBLIBNET project is funded by RRRLF (Ministry of Culture, Govt of India) and executed in collaboration with Bengal Library Association (BLA) intends to place a Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) server version 3.2.6 (running on Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS) at 170 town libraries across a total of 14 districts in West Bengal. The server will be accompanied by 2 nos of client PCs also running on Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS. 4. Search around Kohacon 2011 web archives you will definitely find a good developer. PS : I am no where involved in any of the above entities.Serial number of suggestion is in *randon order* . Extra credit : 1. You might be interested in this : http://www.verussolutions.biz/index.php. Someone who is in a admin committee of a Library with 8 figure annual library budget told me that Koha is a great ILS but you may face initial/long term problem related to acquisition module. 2. 2. Not ALSA related, how about ditching ALSA and going with OSSv4[2] stack which is also getting fairly good support, work great and its mixer is as confusing/complex (or maybe more) as ALSA. And ofcourse it's licensed under GPLv2 and BSDL, which makes it free software as well. +1 . I also faced the same problem using Debian Squeeze, shifted to OSSv4, turned the capture ( in Debian squeeze top panel left side sound control is for sound capture control not for volume control ) to mute , turned the Digital-1 to full and everything started working fine , no hissing sound whatsoever. -- With Regards, Gaurav Paliwal http://gauravpaliwal.com ___ Ilugd mailing list Ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd
