Interesting Darshan Ji, how do you identify it from other *Achyranthes
*
?

I was going through the paper
http://threatenedtaxa.org/ZooPrintJournal/2011/June/o268526vi111875-1879.pdf
and
found superficial features described in that paper tallies (at least
several features) with my species in following threads!

(with
   3 set of images)

Yet none of my above two threads is *A. coynei*.

The set featured in this thread neither shows l-o-n-g spike nor densely
arranged flowers, nor even similar leaves found in the paper above.

Thank you
Regards
surajit

The Flowers of India site lists Stachytarpheta indica in their pages and
call it as "Indian snake weed" and says that it is similar to
S.jamaicensis.They further add that it is not clear as to whether the two

yes, tsp ..
all those links that mr garg has sent if you look at them (i did just now)
both are listed in the same listing as if the authors are implying they are
synonyms

all snakeweed at east these blue one hybridize like crazy and are
according to univ fl extension
...difficult
to differentiate...

i did not readily find any molecular analysis papers
so may be one has to wait till these weeds find enough interest in the
research community

i may yet because it seems it may be an important anti-inflammatory and
may even be useful in diabetes...

Yes Ushaji,The possibility of natural hybridisation has compounded the
problem of classification and nomenclature. As per my field observation
over the years the ones growing in the Eastern plains have off-blue
coloured flowers and the ones growing around Ghat forests have deep blue
flowers. But I cannot substantiate scientificallyIts only my
observation...!

[efloraofindia:236909] Canavalia page with images of species in efloraofindia

2015-12-04 Thread J.M. Garg
Pl. go through Canavalia

page with images of species (done by Surajit ji) in efloraofindia.

If you find any mis-identification, pl. let us know.

If anybody can send images of other species of this genera (for
incorporation in the website), if any, it will be really nice. Also, if
anybody is interested to take up the activity of inserting images on
efloraofindia pages from efloraofindia posts, pl. let me know.

[efloraofindia:236913] Inserting all images in tabular form in future

2015-12-04 Thread J.M. Garg
Dear members,
I have tried to do this experiment, based on Surajit ji's tabular form for
genera pages. Pl. see Osbeckia stellata

This has been tried & tested by Surajit ji, TSP Kumar ji, Bhagyashri ji &
Sandhya ji.
I find here that it is very flexible & picture & names always remain
together irrespective of any size of window (part window).
Here there is also no problems of links getting deleted etc. This will also
ensure uniformity in future.
I was also able to simply copy the full table with all the four images
from Memecylon
depressum

 to Memecylon

in Internet explorer Ver. 11.
Thus job becomes further easier & less time consuming.
Here are the modified guidelines: Inserting images- Species pages

[efloraofindia:236915] Efloraofindia website updated upto 30th November'15- more than 11,000 species

2015-12-04 Thread J.M. Garg
 Dear members,

It's heartening to reiterate that *Efloraofindia*
*
is the largest google e-group/ forum in the world *in this field & the
largest nature related e-group (and the most constructive) in India with
around 2,37,000 messages so far & membership currently at more than 2650
nos.

Efloraofindia website
 has now been updated
upto 30th Nov.'15 along with completion of resurfacing work upto this date. *It
has the largest database on net on Indian Flora with more than 2,20,000
pictures of more than 11,000 species. *Members should add Efloraofindia
 website
 link in their favourites
& give species’ links from this while posting or replying in a thread as
lot of discussed data is already available here.

Intent of this website is compilation of all the posts on 'efloraofindia'
e- group along with providing other details so that it’s useful to all
concerned as all the data about a particular species will be available
under a single head & *easily searchable*. However, correctness of data/
identification in the efloraofindia (earlier indiantreepix) links is
dependent on the members’ inputs in that particular link. Therefore,
errors/ mistakes cannot be ruled out-everyone is requested to point them
out for corrections by sending an e-mail to .
Efloraofindia e-group members can also add comments about it after 'signing
in' at the bottom of the page.

More important is the fact that thousands of observations of hundreds of
our members are available here (many of which one will not find documented
anywhere) & easily searchable through general web searches (after adding
efloraofindia) as well as by searching in the Efloraofindia
 website
. And these are going to
increase with every passing day. These original observations will be a
treasure trove & will a delight to a lot of people. With the pace at which
new species are being added to our database, it should become the premier
resource for taxonomic research in India. As the data is multiplying, we
need more volunteers to take up this work. Details can be seen at Volunteers
required
.

For better viewing of species' pages, colour scheme & formatting is being
followed as at the footer of every efloraofindia page.

Surfing efi has become much easier with subpage listings
. Members
are now allowed to insert images in efi site
 from
efi e-group discussions. There has been tremendous response to this
initiative & we hope to complete having pictures to all species pages
within a year
.

These days a lot of inf. about Indian Flora is available under Cc-by license
 (Licensees may
copy, distribute, display and perform the work and make derivative works
based on it only if they give the author or licensor the credits in the
manner specified by these). Due credits/ attributions are to be given. Such
sources include Wikipedia, India Biodiversity Portal, IUCN Red List, PFAF,
Flora of Tibet website, IBIS Flora etc. I am trying to add such inf. with
due credits. I am also trying to add keys & summarizing the information at
the top of the page (for the pages I am coming across while adding
information from current threads). Genera pages are also cleaned up so that
species (due to wrong botanical names or being syn. of some other species)
are deleted or properly connected as per the current accepted name along
with references. Future eFI genera pages will be like *Cyanotis*

depending
upon the time I get as & when I update a genus page so that we are aware
which are the species which are likely to be found in India (depending on
the net resources) & which are already available in eFI.

Monthly family fortnights

organized by Dr. Gurcharan Singh among others have become a great source of
information for efloraofindia website. Lots of family experts, from inside
as well as outside, are contributing their expertise during these
fortnights.
