Re: [efloraofindia:308145] Names of Plants in India :: Litsea deccanensis Gamble

2018-10-19 Thread Tapas Chakrabarty
Dear Dinesh ji,
Something appears to be wrong. A cursory glace shows that *Actinodaphne
quinqueflora *(Dennst.) M.R. Almeida & S.M. Almeida is based on *Darwinia
quinqueflora *Dennst., Schlussel Hort. Malab. 31. 1818 and the same was
transferred to *Litsea *by Suresh as *Litsea quinqueflora *(Dennst.) Suresh
in Interpret. Hort. Malab.158. 1988.

Now the genus *Actinodaphne *can be distinguished from *Litsea *at once by
the whorled leaves (rather than alternate to opposite). The images here do
not show such whorled leaves in *Litsea deccanensis. *Hence I think that
something is wrong in attaching this species with *Actinodaphne. *
An examination of the type of *Darwinia quinqueflora *is desirable to
clarify the situation.
Kind regards,
Tapas.

2018-10-19 Thread radha veach
This looks like *Sesuvium* *sesuvioides* (Fenzl) Verdc., *Aizoaceae*

According to Dr M.M. Bhandari, author of Flora of the India Desert, this
species is distributed in Pakistan, Saurashtra and Rajasthan.
He mentions that *Sesuvium portulacastrum* is not found in Rajasthan.
*Sesuvium verrucosum* is restricted to the south western part of the United
States, Mexico and parts of South America.

2018-10-19 Thread Alka Khare
Saroj ji, the flower size was about 1 cm.

Usha di,

Yes, this time around, I had a look at all the VOF pics on the efi site
(area by area - such as Govindghat - Ghangaria, Hemkund, VOF, Mana, Auli
etc.)

And then tried to match my pics with them. It was a very enjoyable time,
well spent.

I did the tour twice, once physically in August 2018 and them pictorially
(through efi) in September.

Regards
Alka Khare
