*Opuntia elatior* Mill.
Dear friends,
I have no idea why this cactus park at entrance of Kuldhara village is
strangely named as "Jurassic". I find from internet that the park was made
in 2006 by the government, however is not maintained in any way. The plants
within, I am not sure whether they are natives or exotics, which through my
posts that follow in this week, we will get to know once identified.

This first post, I believe has *Opuntia elatior*; please validate.

[efloraofindia:309985] Re: Sugar control plant from Tripura

2018-11-09 Thread Mahadeswara
Sauropus androgynus. (L.) Merr.. Common names : Sweet Leaf Bush, Star
Gooseberry, Multi vitamin plant • Kannada: Chakraani, Chakramuni
• Malayalam: Madhuracheera, Cucurumanicheera • Tamil: Pallikkarputu,
Thavasi Keerai . Very useful plant for home gardens. The leaves are used as
a medicine for coughs and to soothe the lungs, as a tonic, and as a
febrifugal to relieve internal fever; they are also used as a vegetable.
It does not control diabetes. The plant is common in Karnataka & other
South Indian states . have grown this in my garden at Mysore. It is rich
in protein and we use leaves as leafy vegetable. I will send the article
in due course.

Re: [efloraofindia:309976] Lindenbergia for ID :: Govindghat - Ghangaria, Uttarakhand :: Aug 2018 :: ARKOCT-42

2018-11-09 Thread J.M. Garg
A reply:
"This should be *Lindenbergia indica*
*According to *Hjertson M.L. Botanical Jouml of the Linnean Society (1995).
179: 265-321*.*
Distribution of both species is almost same in India.
*Lindenbergia muraria*: Leaf blade 0.4-6.2 cm long, petioles 0.1-4.3 cm
long, flowers 0.6-1.1 cm long.
*Linderbergia indica*: Leaf blade 0.1-6.0 cm long, petioles 0.1-2.5cm
long, flowers 0.8-1.8cm long.
Major difference is; in *L. muraria* ovary and capsule are pilose whereas
in *L. indica* both are glabrous.
Whereas, in Flora of Maharashtra Vol 2: *L. muraria *leaves are more than
1.5 cm long, petioles 0.6-2.5 cm long and flowers about 0.8 cm long; *L.
indica* leaves about 1.5 cm, petioles less than 0.5 cm and flowers about
2.5 cm long.
Based on images petioles are smaller and flowers are much longer to *L.
muraria.*
Kind regards,
Varun"
Thanks, Varun ji.
