Are there people out there successfully using the commercial Xig Xserver
for the Inspiron 7000? Half their web page says its supported, and the
other half says it is not.If so, can you provide any details on
anything special you had to do to get it working? I will add this info
to my I7K

If you check the back archives, there is NOT an XF86 server for the Rage
chipset yet (Grumble, my brand new desktop came with the ATI rage AGP also
and I'm haveing the same problems). Your best (Read "ONLY") option is to
get that Accelerated X server
First of all, you need to clarify what kind of machine you have. The Inspiron
3000/3200 is very different than the 7000.
Hi there,
It 's been a couple of non-stop weeks of trying that I can't get PCMCIA to
work - it crashes the machine just before probing these IRQs, just like
some others
It's not clear to me whether or not the Rage IILT is the same as the Rage
LT Pro in the I7k. Maybe it is just a typo. However, I've been using
that ChipId for a day now and it seems to marginally work (I have X
working in 1024x768, but I can't switch back to text mode now without
rebooting).

For the 7K, I know of no good or even not good way to get x
support on a 7k without the XiG server. If someone DID post a bit of
instruction on how to get a 7K to work under (I seem to remember something
about) 800x600 or somethign please post it

I have and inspiron 7k on order as well and am looking to do the
Red Hat thing. For the last couple of weeks, folks have been talking
up the Xi server as a good package but I have not heard anything
about the MetroLink (http://www.metrolink.com)
