Listened from 1330-1455 utc and did hear a few TP's with audio 594, 657, 693,
747 and 774. I spent most of the time on 1450 as local KNOT in Prescott was
off the air. Only one new station heard and that was KZNU in Saint George,
Utah.

Good Morning:
Listened from 1428-1530 utc. Mornings are much better than earlier
this month for TP's. A lot of splatter and noise, higher than normal
this morning. Also snow on the ground.

I talked to John about the Wellbrook loops at Grayland and looked at

but the return coax will be sitting under 3-4 feet
Patrick, I can vouch for Nick's comments and elaborate on my usage, having a
bit more time this morning, while between patients at the clinic. At home, I
have my loop above the garage and into a large maple tree in the back corner of

Didn't seem quite as good a morning as yesterday perhaps, but lasted longer;
low band signals peaked around 1545UT it seemed, and quite a bit still audible

pretty darn good audio (at least briefly):

Reasonably good audio - 594 693 747 774 1566

I'd planned to record the 600's 700's all night, but forgot to check
the proper box in the SRD-IQ software :( Better luck next time.

I guess it's almost time for tonight's listening to begin on the west coast,
but here's a belated report for last night. I didn't turn the radio on until
0110 utc. Conditions seemed to be best for the early evening, and seemed to
go downhill later.
153 LWBC had two stations, weak, at 0111 utc.
Although the band is by no means dead, the TA signals here are well
below what they have been the last 3 days. The UAE signals on 1539 and
1575 are moderate carriers at best, with the strongest signal being 1134
Croatia which is reaching audio level now and again. There are a fair
number of
As Nigel gave us west coasters some advance notice of poor TA, it's
certainly poor here. First check at 0047 utc, 171 Morocco at fair S2 level,
207 with poor signal; only weak MW hets on a few channels.
At 0119 utc, 171 is down to S0 with fades down to inaudibility; nothing
anywhere else.
There
There was a notice on another list of a sudden geomagnetic impulse this
afternoon; I don't know if that would affect conditions so soon, or if at
all. But it does appear west coast TA is pretty much gone, at least for
right now.

I have detected ZERO carriers on the regular suspects;
I have a few weak carriers on 153, 171 189. No carriers on 1134, 1215 or

Yes, and things have only gone downhill since my earlier post. All I

paid them any attention the past evenings. Oh well, it was certainly
fun while

Nick,
That is a thought. Maybe I could borrow one from someone to try. I have
my doubts, but I have been surprised in the past. Sometimes antennas I

Thanks for the advice. The only area I really have is to the East, where
the beverage runs. I may have 60-80 feet between the trees. If the lobe

How much room is really needed for the ALA100 to work well?
Hi Patrick
I generally use small loops with the ALA100, on the order of maybe 15 feet
circumference or perimeter, because it can overload (not badly; I'm being a
purist) with CFAX breathing down my
Nick,
Thanks for the info. 65 feet, I can easily fit that into the area in the

Walt,
Thanks again. Really running a coax return out to that tree may pose
another issue, as cows are out there and could easily step on the cable
and break it. I had to put metal screening around the termination pot as
they kept crewing on it and breaking the wire. A couple weeks ago, I
would

No pix available. It took me quite by surprise. I had quite a herd of
cattle surrounding me. Lots of wildlife out here. I had a bald eagle
sitting on a high branch out in the field yesterday and a couple weeks
ago 80-100 elk, some within 30 feet of the house.
