Have noted WMUX, Hurricane, WV, on late recently. Probably just leaving the
EWTN feed on all night without any IDs.

Continuing on this discussion regarding Sunset Skip (SSS) and logging
stations in the Western States. I'm curious about propagation that
favors reception of stations to the West. What types of solar and/or
geomagnetic conditions seem to accompany these types of receptions? I'm
much clearer on
In my experience, good Western conditions happen when auroral activity is
particularly low for an extended period of time. Generally, conditions which
favor high latitude reception (TA and TP) are also good for Westerns.
You certainly won't hear most of the beacons most evenings, however

Barry,
Just the sort of information that I was hoping for. From time to time,
I've seen lists compiled along the lines of Hear all 50 States on AM.
Searching the web, I find one from the 1980's, another from 2003, but
nothing more recent than that.
Seems that I recall a similar article
Willis Monk pointed to Bay Minette AL as running a lot at night lately. David
Faulkner points to Hurricane WV. you, both!
Whatever it is, it's in strong now on a Wellbrook loop aimed sw.
WMUX WV is EWTN. I caught this once in Toronto and it IDed only as EWTN at the
TOH or BOH, about a year
I haven't seen any reports from Dennis or Gary yet today. If you guys
actually tried listening for TPs this morning, you have my condolences.
If you didn't, then you probably didn't miss much (even though a lousy
morning here isn't necessarily the same for others).
I went through the SDR
I just and ID but still not sure what was said. BUT, it could be WMUX as
that is what it sounded like. As everyone knows the signal will only QSB
what the ID comes up.
BUT the Alabama station is well known for this type of music, it just
doesn't sound catholic, but could be. I just do no see

At 2100 EWT, I hear the call WMUX and catholic music that IDs EWTN station;
I have no idea what to call that music but I know its a EWTN station.
At 2057 I am sure I heard what sounded like WTOF mixed in the mix, along
with WBT; but I am probably wrong about that. They also gave the call of
Hi Guys:
I have this Religious Music coming into London, Ontario as well. It is
String/Organ type Inspirational Music…Not Gospel and no Vocals. It is under WBT
for the most part, but between 2102 and 2103 EST it rose well above WBT!! No
Talk noted but there seemed to be a short break after
Further to my Last message….I see on the Map that Hurricane WVA is DUE SOUTH of
me…..which would further point to this Being WMUX….or at least it's on the
right Bearing.

WTFDA's list sorts well ... http://db.wtfda.org ... ideal for this kind of

Assuming the W258 portion was heard correctly, nothing //WMUX.
It's a longish list, 35+ stations, so will take time to go through...
I've had it on and nothing but music thus far.
Mostly instrumental, some vocals
Hi Guys:
Several DXers have been chasing a Mystery Station on 1110 Khz playing Religious
Music the past few nights. Tonight it is coming in a lot better and I was
finally able to hear an ID for WMUX Hurricane, WEST VIRGINIA!! This is a NEW
STN for both the ULR and OVERALL LOGS!! It is a 1 KW
Well, yes, it was a lousy morning; conditions were supremely lousy
until about 1430UT, when they became mildly less lousybut extreme
minimalist DXing yielded a new one just before sunrise just the same...
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,

Hi Guys:
1110 WMUX Hurricane, WEST VA. is still coming in quite well here at 2340

said WMUX Hurricane, West Virginia is currently OFF the Feed for EWTN. He
I've taped a lot of it, some unattended while I finished off some work. No IDs
heard live. But I'll be logging it as WMUX. Prev heard in Toronto nearly a year
ago under similar circumstances, though had a solid ID there of the sort Robert
Ross described. WAMO 860 Pa, also Catholic, is running
Sounds like it's the one really beating up WBT on one of the longwires
tonight, which'd be a new one. Rolling some tape because I have to
crash.
