And who will need jammers in the future when entire countries can be

So I think you are saying the K9AY is both a loop and phased verticals. If so,
then we agree. What you didn't mention is the relative contributions of the 2
modes. I see a 12 dB advantage for E mode. Do you agree E mode prevails?

I first logged XEG on April 5, 1979 as a 13-year-old new to the hobby

remember the PO Box and the St. Louis 66, Missouri ID and thinking it weird
and archaic at the time.

Hi Guys:
Been outside working in the Yard a lot now that the nice weather has finally
arrived here ….so not much time to check ELAD Recordings. However, I did hear 1
NEW STN this morning @ 0700 just after local sunrise. Also included here are a
couple of other interesting Relogs……..
A couple of weak DU audios, plus a hint of the HLAZ Japanese
program...just a hint though, and the party, such as it was, was all
over by 1300UT.

If this actually happens according to their timetable I'm
sure it won't just be internet content delivery.
Remember DAB digital audio broadcasting.
In Europe the DAB implementation is different from IBOC which has been a
non-starter here since it's establishment over a decade ago.

Thanks for the links to the articles. I remember seeing John's article a

reminded of it. Mark's article has a lot to digest! I've been trying to

They are not going to internet only but rather to digital only - either DAB
or DAB+.
Norway is already heavy into DAB, having only 5 FM's to close down.

Hello Chuck,
In the early days of the K9AY antenna someone ( I think it was a Swedish

degrees. No one offered a satisfactory explanation as to how this phase
difference would affect the pattern.

Norway's phasing out of FM radio is being done in favor of digital radio
multiplexes based on Eureka 147 standard, aka DAB+ (which accomodates up
to 20 stereo or mono programs per single 1.5 MHz wide channel, using MPEG4
compression). DAB+ networks operate in VHF band III. A number of

that, oddly enough, includes the St.Louis address with the old-fashioned

According the Hakan, the NRK stuff is going to the DAB band and the private

I wonder how much of Europe is into DAB that much? I do know the wifi radio is

Andy,
Thanks. Hakan pretty much reports the same thing. I guess though it is being
discussed. I know all of the young people only seem to stream these days.
