I agree with Bruce about the quality of the morning listening, especially from
about 1300-1325UT. A mixture of Asia and DU, with the former dominating. I'm
sure there were lots of things I missed.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):
The station on 1300 in Troy NY once sent me a QSL boasting of its 1 billion
milliwatts, or something like that, to make its 1000 watts seem especially
mighty. Jim Renfrew, Clarendon NY.

I once heard a station ID saying it operated "with a maximum effective
radiated power not exceeding 250 thousand watts". An accurate
statement if you read it carefully, but a tad misleading.

Good story but I wonder how many of those power levels are "ERP (Effective
Radiated Power) as opposed to "TPO" (Transmitter Power Output). When you
take antenna gain into consideration it may paint a completely different
picture! There are 50-kilowatt stations in the U.S. that radiate a lot more

General notes for 1100 UTC on 26-Aug-2018:
G3 geomagnetic storm in progress. Also, semi-local t-storms at the time,
which pretty much killed the bottom third of the band. Local sunrise was
1104 UTC. So not only did I have auroral conditions, but also sunrise
enhancement.
