Quite a snarl again around 1340UT, with missed loggings I'm sure, but overall,
I'd say a tad less Asian strength,a tad more Aussie strength, and perhaps some

The 'spectrumarchive.org' site mentioned by Russ references the 1986 spectrum
recording from Providence, RI that Craig Healy made via VCR. I dubbed this to
a Perseus file several years ago.
Spectrum recording likely goes back to the early '60s (JFK era). Not long

The Grayland DXpeditions were "community"events where we ate together, did show

There still seems to be a lot of interest in ocean coast DXing among the local
group, although not necessarily at Grayland. We had 5 DXers at the Rockwork
cliff last month, and Walt and Guy have their favorite DXing spots in Masset,
and on the Oregon coast. Exotic ocean beaches in the forward
Like Chuck, I'm a fan of Audacity, and have been using it for quite a
few years now. I do still use one of the other softwares mentioned in
the article, that being B-Log. No doubt there are better logging
programs out there by now, but B-Log does everything I need, so haven't
seen the need
Yes, there has been no interest this past decade when the usual fall DXpedition
to Grayland was announced.
Not sure why only a few of us show up.
We do have other choices than the defunct Grayland Motel: Casa Sea Esta in
Grayland and the Low Tide Motel in Copalis.

I need more editing capability than Total Recorder can give, as basically lets
you trim a recording and adjust the volume.
I need to be able to:
- highpass filter to remove ;pw frequency rumble from channels
- notch out hets and RFI
- plot the spectrum to see if it is mis-shaped
A fine article, it is! Nice reading the article again, and bringing back
such nostalgic memories. Today, I'm still using B-Log, Total Recorder, and
Nick's updated DX Radar (Fishbarrel). I was a user of most of the
hardware/software mentioned. Today, it's DX Atlas that I still like for

I wonder what a new version of the "High Tech DX" article would look like.
Terminated loops, SDR's, ultralights, FSL's, and latest DXpedition practices /
site choices would certainly factor in. Of course there's much different in
today's playing field of broadcasters,

Nick,
I do recall seeing that version during one of my early trips to Grayland in
late 90's, but, as I recall, we didn't hear Indonesia 909 that nightLOL

Thanks for your thoughts on the subject Guy. And, yes, the idea
originated on the Dymek DR-333, around 20 years
ago. Unfortunately, it wasn't as accurate as the DXFishbarrel is,
but it did alert us to Indonesia on 909 at Grayland more years ago
than either of us want to remember.

Hi Nick,
Opps, should have been west Dkaz and not south, I should verified my antenna
settings.
I will need to try reversing the feed and termination point to see what that
will produce!
