V7AB installed a brand new Nautel NX25 transmitter this summer after their
20 year old 25kw unit needed replacing
No idea from this end after speaking to Jeff Welton at Nautel what they're
running power wise, I doubt it's full tilt... Many of these stations don't
run them at quite full tilt, so
And what I don't udnerstand is how tonga on 1017 and marshall islands on
1098 have anything really to do with each other signal strength wise

Hi Paul,
Issue with 1017 here is that I get nothing resembling the carrier strength
I get from 1098 which can be over 30 dB above the noise floor.
Re: V7AB I recall you know someone there. Could you please check and see
exactly how much power they are getting out of their fixed up xmtr? I read
Apparently Tonga is a bit undermodulated, someone once told me... that
would be why audio is a bit hard to get from them

Nice to have Tonga like that. What time do they typically s/off? I think
that they, unlike V7AB 1098 shut the carrier off as well as I don't ever
notice much carrier on 1017 here, but have been starting DXing around
Not surprisingly no audio here this AM. Carriers approaching audio at sunrise
- 1102utc - on 702, 612 and 774 though.
Still working on an intermittent fuse-blowing on my Wellbrook phaser.
Narrowing it down to one of four legs now.
Also having some fun and frustration with a new SDRPlay rx

Only thing noteworthy here from IL this morning was
0723 UTC - 1017 KHz assuming Tonga at very good levels with Island music.
Lots of carriers here and there.

NHK2 stations on 747 and 774 are already putting in decent audio at 0730
UT. I'm also carriers on 594 (Japan, threshold audio but getting
better), 693 (Japan) and 738 (Tahiti).

only late TA seems to be 1215 with poor audio occasionally, likely Absolute.
864 with a good carrier but no more.
As for TP, at 0615UT, R. Rossii on 234 quite good, considerably poorer on 189
and 279; 774 fair audio JJ talk, 747 struggling to deliver audio, good carriers
on 567 and 1287..
TA carriers still in here are 909, 999, 1071, 1206 (best) and 1215. 747 and
774 have carriers on both the NW and NE antennas. No JJ yet here on 774.

I stayed up late last night due to something work related, so I scanned
the dial a few times.
The only notes I took were from 0840 to 0915, when there was already
quite a bit of activity:
Pretty good audio: 747, 774(the best despite being 4 kHz from a 10kw
local), 828(good at 0840, much
At 0610UT, 279 is showing weak audio, and 1287 has just faded up
with pop mx. 747 and 774 are still just weak carriers though.

Don't know if this is a precursor of good DX at sunrise, or whether
this is the real opening this morningbut, at 1130-1140UT, good
audio being heard on 1566 (CC talk), 774 (EE lessons)
occasional audio, battling with the splatter: 747, 828, 1287, 1575
(and 279, just weak clear audio
Nick,
Conditions seem on the improve this morning. VOA Thailand1575 weak at 1208.
Also the carrier on 1107 was level 5 about a 1/2 hour ago. The regulars 774
JOUB HLAZ 1566 are in too. 1311 ut.
