Hi Don,
Yes, it's been tough listening to the anemic TP's every morning this
month-- it seems like Derek in California is doing better than any of us are
here in the NW. 600' cliffs next to the ocean don't fool around :-)

Ah yes.. Cliff top DX (TGE) the Garry effect seems to be working.
Overall signal strength is about the same, but it's on different
channels. I'm not hearing much DU or the rough audio from Those CC
stations. This time last year 4TAB and 5AN mixing with Vietnam on
891.. this year??? Only
Listen from 1240-1322 utc. Probably one of the best mornings here
in Salmon Creek for TP's in this early season. Thailand on 1575 back
to normal reception here.
153 RUSSIA, Radio Rossii 1246 Steady S-3 signal with Pop music.
180 RUSSIA, Radio Rossii 1247 S-1 with fading. No signal at
My first solid TP of the season with 594 poor/weak JJ talk, 1321 utc. Lots
of hets on channels of usual Asians, 1566 close to audio. Later shifting to
DU, 846 with EE music, very poor; 891 with DU horse racing results, weak; DU
talk underneath at 1332 utc; 738 with DU talk, poor at 1336.
73,
Listened from 1245-1310 utc and only weak carriers on 279, 594, 693, 774, 972
and 1566. The only good thing was the t-storm noise was gone.

Signals continue to be generally weakish here; the little bit of antenna
checking I've done shows nothing untoward. A temporary large ALA100 seems to
deliver more signal strength, but with more splatter also, but allowed first
audio this season on 1134. Listened from 1250-1305 and again

R8A and the big guns aimed west (Phased BOG System at 273 deg, 930 ft // 600

I got out to the DX truck just after 1100 and there were decent sized hets from
738 and 702. Things improved a few
Congrats Neil on a couple of very nice logs. 1116 is another common one for us
but KFAB probably rules it out for you. Is 1548 a possibility for you?

Thanks Dennis for passing this along. I wonder when the station will

I can give a big ditto to Gary's comments. His large PVC loops are
impressive and imposing! Only rural DXers can expect to use these monsters
without the paranoia of who might be watching / frowning / disapproving.
Nick, if you don't necessarily want to rotate such a large loop for nulling,

Pardon me while I change shirts from all of the drool from reading your
email kaz! My only question would be would you be able to detect a
carrier either barefoot or with an avg loop? I know that for me to
construct a BOG in my townhome association is impossible. That is why I

In the pre IBOC days a few years ago I had decent hets from 1098 a couple times
on the 2010 bearfoot right at sunrise as WTAM faded down. Marshall Islands
commonly left their OC on after signoff around 1100 GMT. KFAB IBOC is nasty
here, but you might be able to loop it. I also recall a 738 het

Heh, Gary, the neighbors already have to put up with a 30' wooden mast at the
back of the lot, and they haven't turned me in yet. In fact, one even
commented that with the various antennas and supports draped around it, that it
looked like the rigging of a sailboat. This is a good fantasy to

Hello All,
It was another interesting morning, with positive signs of a transition to
better TP propagation. Like Dennis, I found it one of the best mornings of
the new season.

even mixing with a weak HLKG (for
My experiences of late continue to be similar to Steve's.I also had
my first TP of the season this morning, although in my case it was 747

signal there to hear anything. Also heard weak audio from Japan on

Hi Guy,
Thanks for your generous comments (about generous-sized loops).
In answer to your question, it's rarely necessary to null pest stations
when chasing TP's in Puyallup, since almost all the west coast QRM (Vancouver,
Seattle, California, etc.) is around 90 degrees separated from the
I dunno Don. I can't speak for myself, as I wasn't here last year at this
