[IRCA] Tps 3 MW+3 long-wave 0945 UTC

2006-10-31 Thread vroomski
Good Morning,

Just got back yesterday from a one week stay in Southern Calfiornia. Spent one
night in Vacaville, CA and heard two TPs. 594 JOAK 774 JOUB both with weak
signals. Stayed in Yorba Linda in Southern Calfornia and the two TP's heard
were 774 JOUB HLAZ 1566. Both fair to weak at times and heard most mornings
about 1300 UTC. Toured the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Admired the long wire
antennas that were strung between the two masks towering above the ship.
Looked into the radio room through the window and noticed the amatuer
equiptment that the Long Beach amatuer club uses. They have beams and other
amatuer antennas placed on the ship. Only one old tube radio was seen, a
SP-600 super pro.

This morning at 0943 JOUB 774 was in with a good signal. 828 JOBB weak, HLAZ
1566 weak, Three long-waves of Radio Rossii on 153,180 279 heard with weak
audio. Hope to DX a little lattter this morning.

Santa Barbara is just a bit different...kinda like Haight-Ashbury meets Beverly
Hills. They're pretty rare 250 miles to the north. KPAY/Chico puts out a
helluva signal, and I'm in the crosshairs of KAZA/Gilroy. Its nice when
they're off. Now if I could catch KNBR, KCBS or KGO off. Very good catches
happen here when any of them are off.

[IRCA] Local KAZA/1290 off

2006-10-31 Thread Michael Hawkins
But still has OC running. Spotted:

  * KPAY/Chico CA (yawn) with Coast to Coast AM
  * KKDD/San Bernardino CA (yawn) with Radio Dizknee
  * KCUB/Tucson AZ with sports
  * KZSB/Santa Barbara CA (all 122 watts of it) with BBC news

Lotsa hets, audio on 774 and 1242. Judging by the sound of it, its possible
that 693 might break through XETRA/CBU (if adjacent 50KW KNBR @ 22 miles allows
it).

Mike,
Good description of Santa Barbara. More specifically, is it rich drug
addicts or just rich hippies? hi.

Do sound the alarm if any of those stations are off (which I'm sure you
will). I don't believe I have EVER heard any of them off.

2006-10-31 Thread JPOGUE
As I sit here in the shadow of Graceland, enviously reading about the
guys on the west coast hearing TPs almost every morning, I observe
that I see far fewer reports of TAs being heard by others on the east
coast. I'm curious ... are the TAs heard that much less frequently
than TPs? If so, I wonder why? Or are there just fewer people either
listening for TAs ... or reporting them? I'd enjoy hearing some
thoughts from our seasoned transoceanic listeners on this, especially
since I'm much more likely to hear TAs than TPs. Thanks.

Thanks to Patrick, Kaz, and Bruce for the replies on this. So not that
new then. I did notice they had a annoucements about being a new more
powerful station. The numbers didn't reflect it, but conditions seemed
semi-auroral at the time, as I was also getting Mexico on 800 coming up
over CHAB from SK.

Hi Nigel. I don't remember the exact date that KLDC switched from 800 to
810. But it was several months ago. They also built a new 4-tower
transmitter site and became a split-site operation at that time. There
is some confusion about which site is the day site and which is the
night site. What the CE told me is the opposite of what the FCC data
shows. One of these days I need to get over there and verify which is
which. The new site is co-located at the KLZ / 560 transmitter site
about 15 miles closer to Denver than the old site which is just
northwest of Brighton.

2006-10-31 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
Asian conditions excellent today, with 10 Japanese LF beacons heard--far
more than ever before, with several new ones. MW audio good on 594 at 1205
utc, with many strong hets; then again around 1415 utc at sunrise and after,
594 along with 531 with Asian talk. 531 is my best MW channel, being mostly
clear and easy to hear weak audio; no nearby TIS/HAR either. 531 finally
faded out around 1445 utc. 747 and 774 are covered with IBOC garbage now,
though the hets are easily heard in CW mode. 1566 also good audio today.

In any event, Ms. McCaw can program pretty much whatever she darned well

Hi Everyone:

It was reported some time back that CKWA-1210-Slave Lake, AB had moved to FM
and the AM was off the air. This information was incorrect. However, their days
are numbered.

A short while ago for the very first time I heard and logged the FM station. It
was parallel to the 1210 outlet and ID'd as Ninety Two Seven, The Fox and was
playing classic rock. No mention of the 1210 station was heard. According to

the AM will shut down some time in December. If you need them, go get them.

Edson 970 continues to elude me. Are they also moving to FM ?
They too have recently applied to move, so it should take a while.

Interesting question Tim. I never though of that. After local sunset both
970 and 1210 are a mix of several stations, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm
hearing. I'll check tomorrow when both will be in the clear.
