Re: [IRCA] Vintage receiving station with loops
Dennis and all, it is Skaggs Island and is actually closer to the Sonoma/Solano county line. Have a look here: http://www.navycthistory.com/skaggs_decom_book.html If you go to the home page for this site and wander around a bit, you will find additional routes to go for Skaggs Island information and pictures (among many other locations). It is an interesting site. On Google Earth, punch in 38.189188N, 122.39592W. This shows the water tower that is very visible from Highway 37 and what I believe is the last remaining building (also visible from the highway). I was listening to a ham operator and he mentioned the receiving station located on many acres of land. I did a search on the internet and found nothing about the government site. [IRCA] Interesting low power station in
http://tinyurl.com/ksufnh This is an interesting listing in the FCC data base. It is described as a LP Broadcast Auxiliary Low Power which is not a TIS. I heard it in May 2004 on 1680 and it was functioning as a TIS, and I am not sure if it is still on the air. It was sponsored by the Dallas Downtown Improvement District and broadcast a 1:40 long loop tape with announcements for current events in Downtown Dallas. I could not find any call letters for this station. Does anyone know if calls for this station exist? Note this is not the same license as the DFW TIS, which happens to be licensed to the same frequency 1680. [IRCA] July 26 Grayland, WA MP3's from Australia
Hello All, For those interested, a couple of Aussie MP3's from yesterday's great conditions at Grayland have been uploaded to the Ultralightdx file site. With assistance from an inductively-coupled 8' (diagonal) PVC-framed tuned passive loop, recordings of a booming 5AN-891 (in Adelaide) and a moderate 2KP-684 (in Kempsey) were made on a Slider C.Crane SWP model, just after sunrise. ALSO, for those Australian or New Zealand DXers (or anyone else) familiar with the 531 kHz stations in eastern Australia, an MP3 of two strong UnID's was made at 1230 UTC yesterday, with decent signal strengths. One of them is the no ID pop music station presumed to be 3GG, but the other station does seem to have a weak ID (which I can't make sense of). Assistance would be appreciated-- the MP3 will be sent to anybody upon request-- even North American domestic DXers who want to hear what it sounds like when two Aussie stations fight it out on a frequency :) 73, Gary DeBock **A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. Re: [IRCA] July 26 Grayland, WA MP3's from Australia
Hi, Gary! I'd love to hear the audio clips. Over the past few years, I have many 531 clips with two or even 3 DU stations battling it out. Occasionally an ID will pop up,or a local phone number, but generally, it's a tricky frequency for sure!
