Re: [IRCA] TP 12 Jan Victoria version

2017-01-12 Thread Dennis Gibson
I heard a few West Coast stations from the southwest coast of Maui (Kihei). The
strongest were KTCT, KEIB and KTNQ (the latter two are 50 kW diplexed). Quite a
few DU were heard on a rental car radio with dreadful selectively. 738 Tahiti
was a regular on an average radio inside the condo across the street from the
beach.

Re: [IRCA] TP 12 Jan Victoria version

2017-01-12 Thread R. Colin Newell
What's interesting about this visit (from Kona) is the complete lack of West
Coast stations-- not sure if the doldrums effect the E-W path to WCNA.

This AM was the epitome of blah -- with a couple of huge standouts that defied
explanation. All Chinese.

At this hour, audio on 540, 621, 1098 - assuming all Island stations.

[IRCA] TP 12 Jan Victoria version

2017-01-12 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Even more lackluster. A few carriers, most likely DU, from 1300 to
1430UT, then very poor until just before local sunrise, when a
slight lift occurred on HLAZ plus a couple of carriers.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not today

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

not here either

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1566 HLAZ woman in Chinese 1545UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

 just HLAZ passing through

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

  702 738 891 1098 1116 all earlier and likely DU; 1287 1593 near
sunrise, and seemed to be Asian

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Mostly Mexican MW DX to Enid OK, January 6-12, 2017

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes utility, ham, which may be found in several archives without
much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August 2011 are archived in this forum with open
access:

[over 190,000 views as of Jan 12, 2017]

All times and dates strictly UT. Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only
or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan
stock caradio as specified; ICR-75  E-W longwire

** MEXICO. 1570, Jan 12 at 1347, XERF plug for `Antena Radio Segunda Edición`,
which I guess is later in the day, noon? en 107.9 y 1220, from IMER, referring
to the XEB DF MW frequency and maybe that`s now its own FM, also on
``estaciones en el interior de la república``, (Ciudad Acuña seeming like that
from the metropolis? Even tho it`s right on the border, with the DF much more
``interior``).

Good signal now but hardly a border blaster any more, and USA is no help
allowing lots of low-power CCI. Still claims and listed as 100 kW, but Jerry
Kiefer, ex-KBXD, tells me: ``HI Glenn, Mike Van Hooser in Dallas showed me a
Mexican government web page where they were listed as 30 kW/Radio Poderosa.
Evidently been that way for a few years`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search January 12, UT:
Nothing on low or mid-band, but just:
1098-W at 1317, presumably V7AB Marshall Islands carrier still on
1566-NW at 1320, stronger carrier, presumably HLAZ, FEBC Jeju Island, Korea
South (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

These logs are in four sections, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of
USA, unidentified [if any], separated by === Within each, they are in
frequency order

** CANADA [and non]. 540, Jan 12 at 1320 UT, discussion of drought and floods
due to climate change in Saskatchewan, from CBK in well, or XETX La Ranchera de
Paquimé, Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, frequent canned IDs, mutually nullable
without anything from the country in between (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CANADA. 680, Jan 12 at 1324 UT, treacherous traffic report about Winnipeg
area from CJOB, Chevrolet dealer sponsor. Good for a while rather than St Joe
or San Antonio, just after hearing 540 CBK and before hearing 750 CKJH; see
separate logs. CJOB is 50/50 kW U4, both day and night patterns going N/NNE,
little or nothing to the south, yeah, sure (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CANADA. 750, Jan 12 at 1330 UT, nulling KOAL UT, I get another station in
English, obviously Canadian referring to km, highway 345(?), provincial news,
Battleford, Prince Albert, high temperature minus 26, yourtownnews.ca which in
turn is connected to CK750, as CKJH in Melfort, Sask. is branded, linking to
http://www.ck750/com and plug a pizza party. One YL seems to be doing all the
announcing, news and commercials. Need USB tuning to avoid 740 KRMG splash.
CKJH day pattern is ND; night pattern mostly to the north (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 1610, Jan 7 at 0349 UT, South Asian songs dominating at S9+20, no
doubt CHHA Toronto during its Punjabi hour UT Tue-Sat, but hardly Latina!
Skedgrid in ET, unchanged in 16 months?:
http://chha1610am.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/PostCard-CHHA-1610AM-2016.jpg
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 820, Jan 8 at 2344 UT, as I am trying to hear what else is on here
besides WBAP at sunset, burst of wideband RF noise, as my nearest streetlight
starts to ignite; almost clear sky in pink cirrus sunset, which was at 2333 UT,
already 16 minutes later than earliest a month ago (while our latest sunrise
has just passed at 1344 UT) (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 750, Jan 12 at 1328 UT, `America`s Morning News` show going into
commercial break, loops NW/SE, ad for attending NASCAR in Vegas, fading and
separable from Canadian [q.v.], back in at 1335 UT. I think this must be KOAL
Price UT, 10/6.8 kW U2, likely on ND day pattern since at night it`s cardioid
nulling east. And KOAL is news/talk with lots of networks, but NRC AM Log does
not show it as a TRN affiliate; AMN website does not provide any affiliate list:
http://www.talkradionetwork.com/shows/americas-morning-news/

Not daytimer KMMJ NE this early, nor KSEO Durant OK, another daytimer I have
never heard from across this state. But soon, WNDZ Indiana (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 750, Jan 12 at 1353 UT, Ukrainian with heavy American accent, mention
www.oldtownschool.org which is a folk music school in Chicago, so certainly
WNDZ Portage IN. I had already heard Utah and Saskatchewan on 750, much further
west. Maybe some CCI in Spanish now, El Paso or Grand Island (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 750, Jan 12 at 1429 UT, after Howard Kurtz, Fox mention, ``Newstalk
750`` ID and calls sounded like KGNU, but only fit is KBNN Lebanon MO, 5 kW
daytimer, after hearing other 750s: KOAL, CKJH, WNDZ (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. [Re DXLD 17-01, on 1020, gh hearing KCKN Roswell NM again:]

Glenn, Looks like they found a couple used final tubes to get the Continental
going again. Rumor has it the transmitter was just out of tune. I'm too far
removed to know the exact cause. That being said, there is no way you should be
hearing it in Enid unless the pattern is out. Towards your direct we had a
super tight null offering 40 watts towards you. The day pattern protected
Amarillo 1010 and ERP was about 500 watts

On Thursday January 12th at 9:51AM AK Standard time/1851UTC (3:51AM Friday
January 13th in Misawa) I finally had what I would call reportable &
identifiable audio.

It lasted for all of 30 seconds. I don't know the name of the song though.

Here's my recording:

That 30 second recording is literally the best I've had from AFN Misawa,
1575 The Eagle in weeks upon weeks

1548 4QD Emerald, QLD has been loud at times. Here's a clip from January

Re: [IRCA] TP for 12 Jan 2017 from Kona

2017-01-12 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I had a semi loud 918, but it was fading in and out, getting wiped out by
920 Kenai/Soldotna, 500 miles away

[IRCA] TP for 12 Jan 2017 from Masset

2017-01-12 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Another stinker Asian morning. On the other hand, the best Hawaiian opening
of my Masset stay. 940 was booming in, amongst others. KTKN was not an
issue at all. There was a modest Asian especially Korean and Chinese dawn
enhancement which prompted me to record a little from the SDR. Before
heading to bed last night 1098 was also coming in at very good strength.
Marred by 1090 splatter including IBOC. My NRC AM radio guide does no list
any west coast iboc statons. I assume it's Seattle

[IRCA] Oklahoma TP DX 1/12/17

2017-01-12 Thread Richard N Allen
I listened at 1250-1345 GMT and the only significant signal heard was the
carrier on 1098 kHz. There was a trace of a signal on 1116 and a carrier on
612 before 1300, but nothing afterward. Overall I would been better off
preparing for the ice storm forecast for this weekend. I hope it's not as bad
as the last time when I was without power for a fortnight.

near Perry OK USA,
