The Japanese (along with Guam) vanished today, and the DUs were
also missing when I first tuned in just after 1200. Several showed up
later on, non exceptionally strong, but a couple of them were from WA.
Actually 1296 6RN was stronger than the other RNs when I was checking
the //s.
Thanks Craig,
You deserve a lot of credit for your own Kalaloch, Rockwork and Hawaii DXing
success with the "Frequent Flyer" FSL's, especially your breakthrough Asian
TP-DX results in Princeville, Kauai in April of last year. Guess who is going
to the same island next month, in an attempt to
Thanks, Scott. This isn't really new news.
One thing I've noticed is that some car makers who initially provided
digital radios when it started out have now either withdrawn or perhaps
made it a paid-for option.
But bottom line, customers have to want it, and that's been a very tough
sell on the

Thanks for the great FSLs and the great article. I attended a superb Grayland
TP DX session in 2006 after the Seaside, OR IRCA Convention hosted by Pat
Martin. I packed copious lengths of wire which were used for BOGs. I
anticipated returning to the PNW for subsequent TP

I listened from 1218 to 1300. LSR at 1259. This was a predominantly low band
Japanese morning, as noted by Richard Allen.
594 JOAK w/female in JJ, also female singing in JJ, decent on peaks, albeit
briefly
693 JOAB fair w/EE lesson
747 JOIB good w/EE lesson
774 JOUB fair
Pretty much all Japanese this AM with exceptions - nothing spectacular...
Report later.

Due to local lightning strikes, TP reception was less than ideal this morning.
567 JOIK barely audible // 594 at 1207.
594 JOAK barely audible in moderate QRN at 1133; fair at 1205; fair at 1225,
fading out 1231 (LSR 1227).
747 JOIB poor // 774 at 1128-1146.
774 JOUB fair
And the article is where? :-)

Hello DX Community,
This is a little of topic for two of the email lists, but I am sure many may
have at one time dabbled in the tropical bands.
I am looking for back issues of the Tropical Band Surveys published by the
Danish Shortwave Club International. I have the current issues that are

The development of modern Ferrite Sleeve Loop antennas has been one of the most
remarkable antenna breakthroughs of the 21st century, but since none of these
have ever been mass produced for commercial sale, a lot of questions and
misconceptions about their function and effectiveness persist in
Another "bound to have missed some things" morning. One thing that was
definitely missed (i.e., wasn't there) was Guam-801...amazing reception in
Alberta...and just a carrier in BC.
Mostly a Japanese morning. There was a final bit of a Japanese opening after
1400UT, and things didn't
