Bill, I've enjoyed the Maine KiwiSDR's. Those DKAZ antennas do a better job of
throttling down the Boston and NYC (and I-95 corridor in general) pests than my
SuperLoop does here SW of you. You do seem to have more Lakes area "pestage"
there though with Buffalo, Toronto,
Mostly just little squeaks on the usual carriers here in Victoria, Nigel.
best wishes,
Nick

Hopefully a sign we'll be getting out the recent doldrums.

I'm really glad that I took advantage of the October DX, because November sure
isn't shaping up very well. Much of what Bill heard at Lubec wasn't even
audible here as sunrise approached!
As Colin noted, there was a bit of a lift at the upper end of the band well
after sunrise here.
Perhapsand you get all the nasty weather also.
On the other side of the continent, no DX, but
some idle leaf raking in 54F sunshine, with light
breezes. More suitable for normal folks indeed. Very bland...

Nick's use of the term 'revolting' seemed an appropriate description of
conditions here in Alberta also. Asia did even worse than yesterday,
with absolutely no discernible audio. From DU, 4BC was actually quite
good at times, and I also noted 4QD on 1548 and 891 5AN, but that was it.
For those (like me) who like to keep track of the Kiwi Radio market, this story
about a merger between Radio Live and Magic just appeared on Facebook

The TP's have definitely not been showing up here, either, on their way to
Lubec, Nick. Thank goodness for file review from the recent Hawaii
The buzz jammer has made its nastiness felt on
the west coast as well, Mark. It doesn't really
have a carrier does it, just lots of carriers, like the teeth of a comb?
Where are you finding Oman-702's
pattern? fmscan.org used to show patterns, but
I seem to have lost my way as far as
Hmmm … maybe it really IS a ‘zero sum’ game — we can’t both have good DX at the
same time?! ;-)
I’m getting payback now as I struggle through gale-force winds driving a nasty
mix of wintry stuff to take down the 115 deg. DKAZ to have one less thing to do
tomorrow. Oh yea, it had already
Just before 1600 UTC, there was a minor surge top band --
and I think (brace yourself...) *1566 khz Korea became audible! *
Apart from that, it was pathetic -- there is definitely some
other force at work other than polar absorption that kyboshes
our stellar TP's -- some kind of D Layer thing
Conditions in Victoria seemed quite revolting
around local sunrise, so it's good to hear that
the TP's are showing up somewhere. I'll have to
see if I can find as "good" a signal heard here
around sunrise on 1287 for example.
Straight over the pole seems to be a better bet
at the moment,

Hello Colin
November never a good month this side of the pond. Currently lots of K0s which
usually means the usual stations excluding WCNA : - (
Best wishes

Korea on 972 was again the most steady of the TPs heard after 0900utc here in a
snowy Lubec, Maine this morning. Star of the morning though was 1089-China
doing very well against WBAL on 1090.
Signals seemed best from straight over the pole to
Check 1089 Jim. China doing a good job against WBAL on 1090.

Virtually nothing in live scanning at 1007z at Cappahayden. Just some
bumps in the Perseus spectrum. Maybe the recordings will show more when I
review later. Jim Renfrew, still stuck in Newfiundland. I was due to
leave Wednesday, but expect to fly today.

Audio so far on 972, 774 and 1287 from 0900utc. Dangerous time of day though
as audio on 1107 was Spanish … though signal level and expectations made it
take a minute to figure that out!
Hopefully things will improve a bit nearer sunrise.
