I caught 972 KHz at 1515 UTC
and it was not alone— something co-channel... video taped it but haven’t
replayed the file.
639 China felt better today than yesterday - if only briefly.

Going over old files...there were plenty of TA carriers "last night", 19 Dec
UT. However, not much audio:
909 man mumbling at 0317UT
1215 man talking, could have been English 0545UT, lots of splatter.
This evening, there were actually quite a lot of carriers about 2330UT, but
things had
Not quite so good as yesterday, so definitely not as good as two days ago.
These mornings, the "sunrise" peak seems to be around 1540UT, about 20
minutes before actual sunrise.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

Still a good Asian morning, but another small step down today,
especially on the lower end of the band. The North Koreans, and most of
the Chinese signals disappeared today, but Japan heard on 1503 and 1593,
which hadn't been the case the last two mornings.

I just had a "duh" moment after realizing that Mark Connelly provided
great examples of both s/off and s/on in his original post. Thanks Mark!

WCKY isn't a problem currently, as 2200 s/off approaches. What's the
programming I should be listening for as VOA leads up to s/off?

Good luck!

Trying to find an antenna that will "thread the needle" between WCKY
Cincinnati and a country/oldies station about two hours straight north
of me in Grand Rapids, MI.
Is there an online stream to check for //? I haven't found anything.

I suspect that some of the "second tier" Japanese advantage in
Victoria is on the second go round with the SDR files, Gary. A
better comparison would be with what Colin hears live with no
wideband recording to back him up.
Even going through SDR files has rarely dug out Chinese as good as
As usual, the Asian results here in this landlocked valley were far
different than those reported by Nick in salt water-enhanced Victoria, with far
fewer Japanese but a few different Chinese and Koreans. The glowing Victoria
reports from December 17th were the motivation for the soggy
