Paul, you should have no problem logging North Korea, especially around
your local dawn. An easy catch in Masset. 73, Walt

Some TP-DX recordings from this morning. It was mostly a big gun session, but
several less common Asians were hanging around at a weak level.

Paul, for TPs, dawn is usually best, and yes, post dawn works very well,
especially towards Winter time! 73,...Walt

An interesting take on conditions of reception Colin.I really get
the impression that your receiving set up is considerably better than
mine for Asistics, as many things that you mention that seem fairly
common for you are either completely missing here or quite rare.
Some thoughts on
I noticed a comment from Glenn Hauser about 1098. Just so happens that I
returned home after a baby delivery, about 12:15 AM (07:15 UTC). There was
a pretty darn good carrier on 1098, in fact the strongest on the band. The
Marshall Islands are in darkness, of course by then, and Japan, Korea,
Well 8-830 am I can definately do this winter!

I heard from someone on the Marshall Islands that they recently got the AM
back up to a full 10 000 watts after break downs left them at less then
1000 watts. Darnit, another TP AM I need to try for!!

Better conditions this morning with several heard with audio. 774 Japan
doing very well on peaks. All Asian. Low/mid band with a het on almost
every channel to 1300 kHz. But domestic slop higher today, everywhere.
Some weak expanded band hets after about 1300 utc. (1611, 1638 kHz).

They seem to leave the carrier on all night Walt. I'd bet for navigation
purposes. Unless they've done something drastic they ALWAYS have weak
modulation so it's hard to know when they actually take audio off but it's well
before 1200utc.
1098 was the first TP/DU carrier Nick found on Sunday
My suspicion, Colin, is that your ground is very good in the Blenkinsop
Valley. I think this is more important than your physical location
compared to me or Nick. You likely have a very mineral rich earth there,
which mimics being ocean-side, and hence the superb performance you are
seeing.
Never thought of that -
Judging by the 110 year old apple tree in my backyard and all the old trees
scattered around the area...
It was once very arable land.
My garden produces some amazing things -- apparently DX too!

The
Noise level can be important, but if it gets to the level of domestic
splatter here (which is already somewhat nulled by the Flag), then
there's a real problem...splatter is usually the big issue.
Perhaps your Flag is oriented in such a way as to put a good null on

OK so Marshalls is 10 kW again. Weren't they spec'd at more before? Like 20
kW? Will they be getting up to that level? Marshalls usually signs off
early (for most TP/DU's) and as a result isn't running any audio when many
people notice the carrier.
