[IslamCity] The Muezzin did not call Mr. Gates

2005-04-17 Thread DDN

A Brother asked the
following:

"Is there any truth
on the news that BILL GATES reverted to Islam? This new was quickly
spreading in arabic. Can someone verify its
authencity?"

Assalaamu `Alaykum wa
Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu

Dear Brother Ali,

I have attached below the
information you requested vis--visBill Gates' conversion to Islam.

Thestory of
Bill Gates' conversionis a concocted lie. And Allaah knows
best.

Lies about Islam,
the HolyQur'aanwill be perpetrated by those whose desire is to
undermine our religion today, tomorrow, until the Day of Judgement and that
matters not to us as long as we hold tight to Allaah Ta'aala's Rope. Our
Almighty has promised to preserve His Book, His Deen: "We have,
without doubt, sent down the Message (the Qur'aan); and We will assuredly guard
it (from corruption)."
(al-Hijr
15:9)

What matters
is that many of our well-meaning brothers and sisters in Islam got so carried
away withthe "good" news and started congratulating Bill Gates and
forwardinghis unsubstantiated "conversion"around before
verifying it's authencity.
Please read

The Muezzin Did Not Call Mr.
Gates

The Bill-Gates-Converts-to-Islam hoax has been put
to bed. Commenter "Hoax" at the Museum of Hoaxes (typos and scare quotes in the original) says:

Sorry to dissapoint all
"believers". But this is just First of Apirl Joke.

It was intended to be a joke
  for users in secularkuwait.org

http://www.secularkuwait.org/vb/showthread.php?t=2369

One of the members fabricated
the the news item as a first of April joke, and of course, the members
soon discovered it was just a joke.

Normally, it would just end at
that, but some how, someone Muslim apparently copied the faked image
  somewhere and the hoax started.

And Muslims WANT to believe it,
so the hoax spread. They even write about it in newspapers nowadays.

Since people don't check their
references, there is no such newspaper or magazine known as "Anwar Tunis",
it was just made up. The whole thing was intended as a joke, but muslims
so helpless psychologically in this time are clinging to anything to might
encourage their spirits. I, for one, feel pity for them.

Over and
  Out.As a postscript,
the next commenter in the thread says:

thank allahif bill gates
covert to islam cause he get the right way to allah to baradis to be
the best in every things , money, authorty, life, muslim thaks
  allah

hope that rommer be right
please reply when confirm thatHonestly, you can't make this stuff
up.

Has Bill Gates Converted To
Islam?
I got an email asking me if it's true that Bill
Gates has converted to Islam. Seems like an odd question, but doing a google
search uncovers that this rumor has been going around. Over at the Ultimate Bill Gates site you can
find lots of people asking if the rumor is true (scroll down to the comments
section), and the Gates of Vienna
site reports getting lots of search-engine traffic from people searching for the
phrase 'Bill Gates converts to Islam'. I think I've found the source of the
rumor. Over at Iraqitek.com, someone posted
a screenshot of an arabic-language website that supposedly has a story about
Bill Gates' Islamic conversion. I don't know any Arabic, so I can't tell what
the screenshot says, but assuming that the text in the screenshot does describe
Gates' new-found beliefs, it must be the source of the rumor. However, I have no
idea where the screenshot itself came from. Oh, and to answer the original
question: No, Bill Gates has not converted to Islam.

I dont know about the CD's, I want to mention that melaad celebration is not part of Islam. It is Bid'at. because neither our Prophet(PBUH) nor His companions(RA) and Muslim scholars of "KHAIR-UL-QROON" take any HUJJAT from it. It is invitation of the modern day at which Islam is unknown to msot of the muslims. We should beware of all these thiinngs at which there is even a little Darkness. Being muslims we should concern only to Allah and Rasool what they say i.e. what they ordered and what they forbade. Any thing whaich is not mentioned from Quran and Hadees(SAHEEH) then we should not run towards this.

[IslamCity] History of Saudi Arabia

2005-04-17 Thread Syeda Muneeba Masood

The History of Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enjoys a long and rich history that traces its roots back to the earliest civilizations of the Arabian Peninsula. The region's ancient nomadic peoples developed a deep love for the land as well as a strong sense of independence. With the advent of Islam in the 7th century, tribes and clans were unified under one religion.
The Saudi Arabian state was first established in the central region of the Arabian Peninsula in the early 18th century. Modern Saudi Arabia was founded in 1932 by King Abdulaziz bin Abdelrahman Al-Saud. The nation experienced remarkable growth over a short period, spurred by the discovery of oil in the 1930s. The people of Saudi Arabia now enjoy a high standard of living based on an increasingly diversified economy and have access to the most modern amenities and services. Proud of their history and energetic participants in the successful modernization of their country, today's Saudi Arabians face the future with great confidence.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia comprises almost four-fifths of the Arabian Peninsula, an area about one-third the size of the continental United States. Geographically, it is situated in the southwestern part of Asia. The eastern part of Saudi Arabia is a plateau that begins with the great Nafud desert in the north, continues along the Arabian Gulf and culminates in the south in the world's largest sand desert, the Rub Al-Khali (Empty Quarter). To the west of this plateau is the Najd, the heartland of the peninsula, known for its spectacular escarpments and gravel and sand deserts. The capital city of Riyadh is located in the Najd. A chain of mountains in western Saudi Arabia runs parallel to the Red Sea. The Hijaz region along the Red Sea contains the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, the port city of Jeddah and the summer capital of Taif. Early HistoryThe Middle East, of which Saudi Arabia is an integral part, is the birthplace of civilization. It is in this area that man first settled in farming communities, developed agriculture, domesticated livestock, perfected trade and invented writing, setting the stage for the rise of civilizations such as Babylon, Nineveh, Phoenicia and Egypt. On its perimeter, and at a later stage, other great civilizations, such as Greece and Rome, would flourish, benefiting from the social and economic systems pioneered by the people of the region.

The inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula developed a civilization of their own that defied outside conquest. They interacted economically and culturally, trading with communities in the Fertile Crescent, which stretches from what is present-day Iraq through Syria to Turkey, as well as with Egypt, the Roman Empire and other peoples beyond their immediate area.
Cities along the western and northern edge of the Arabian Peninsula were located on a major overland trade route. Evidence of extensive commercial trade dating from 3,000 BC has been discovered along this route. Early trade commodities included agricultural products, spices, textiles, gold and frankincense.
The lifestyle of the early Arabs was deeply influenced by the desert, which fostered a strong sense of independence and adaptability to a challenging environment. Some Arabs turned to agriculture, forming settlements around a well or in an oasis, while others became nomads, traveling with their flocks across the desert in search of water and grazing land. Caravan cities formed along the western Red Sea coastal region of the peninsula. Although the desert environment was difficult to endure, it provided isolation and protection for the Arabs throughout the centuries.
Modern HistoryIn the early 18th century, Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab, the son of a religious judge, called on Muslims to return to the original form of Islam. Initially persecuted, he later found protection in the town of Diriyah, which was ruled by Muhammad bin Saud, a member of the prominent Al-Saud family. The partnership between these two men eventually led to the foundation of Saudi Arabia.
By the early 1800s, the Al-Saud family ruled much of the Arabian Peninsula. This rise to power alarmed the Ottoman Empire, which sent forth its armies to contain the influence of the Al-Saud. The Ottomans ultimately captured Diriyah, thus ending the first phase of the Al-Saud reign in 1818.
By 1824, the Al-Saud regained political control of central Arabia and once again ruled the region from their new capital of Riyadh, located close to Diriyah. A period of unrest and tribal warfare began in 1865 and resulted in the Al-Rashid family, with Ottoman support, extending its power over the Saudi state. The Al-Saud, under the leadership of Abdelrahman, were forced into exile in 1891. They lived on the borders of the Empty Quarter before settling in Kuwait.
Twenty-one-year-old Abdulaziz bin Abdelrahman Al-Saud left Kuwait in 1901, determined to recapture all of the territory once held by his forefathers and to extend

[IslamCity] A Visit With Imam Ibrahim Kamaladin in the Houston VA Hospital

2005-04-17 Thread Curtis Sharif

As Salaam Alaikum,

Imam Ibrahim Kamaladin is in the nursing home unit of the Houston Veteran's Administration Hospital. The venerable Iman has made outstanding contributions towards the growth and development of our American Islamic community. He has held leadership positions of national prominance, and worked closely with both Imam W.D. Mohammed and his father the Honorable Elijah Mohammed and their communities. He served as resident Imam at Masajids in St. Louis , Missouri and Houston, Texas and provided regional leadership in those areas.

During a recent visit Imam Kamaladin was lucid and alert and recognized a visitor by voice. He is confined to bed with limited motion, due tothe after effects of a stroke. Dispite these limitations he is in good spirits and has a peaceful demenor.

He communicates slowly, yet well, and interacts with visitors and hospital in a friendly and mutually respectful manner. He keeps abreast of his condition by questioning his caretakers about the status of his vital sign testing. Staff members seemed encouraged by the improvement these tests showed as compared to last week's results. In his well know manner, he quickly and candily lets you know his likes and dislikes, and his reasons for them, as he interacts with visitors and staff alike.

The Imam appreciates visitors and phone calls. His hospital phone number is 713 794-8336. Please be considerate of his condition and the pace and complexity of the conversation.

He is interested in keeping abreast of events in our community and was pleased to learn of developments in local masjids, a local feed the hungry program, a Florida seminar and its presenters, an upcoming Dallas family conference and internet reports on a Vatican Interfaith conference attended by Imam Mohammed, Pope John Paul II and the Dilai Lama.

The only aid he asked for is help in providing his wife with transportation between their Missouri City (Texas)home and the VA hospital in the medical center, as needed. Those willing to assist in this regard can reach her at their home phone number of 281 437-7087.

Please consider offering duas for Imam Kamaladin, his wife and family.

Peace, Curtis Sharif

[IslamCity] A Woman Performing a Wedding(nikah) Ceremony

2005-04-17 Thread Muhammed

A Woman Performing a Wedding (Nikah) Ceremony

Question:
At a recent wedding, a woman performed the nikah (i.e. doing the khutbah and presiding over the ceremony). Are there any specific rules to a person officiating a nikah, or is it simply a contract which anyone can perform?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate
There is nothing legally wrong with a Muslim woman performing a wedding (nikah) ceremony. Women have full legal agency in the Shariah, and have the right to initiate their own marriages, to act as agents (wakeel) for others to marry, and to oversee the marriage of others.
A nikah does not actually legally require a religious figure (an imam or shaykh or mawlana) to conduct it. Rather, its obligatory elements--as detailed more thoroughly in related answers--are: a valid offer from one side and a valid corresponding acceptance from the other; and witnesses who hear this offer and acceptance while knowing that what is happening is a marriage.
However, it is recommended to have someone of learning, wisdom, and piety involved in this process, in order to ensure that the marriage is legally sound, pleasing to Allah (by not falling into errors of social or religious judgement), and blessed.
And Allah alone gives success.

[IslamCity] LIVE IN PEACE

2005-04-17 Thread Zarakassam

Live in
peace+++Peace is not something that happens to you. Peace is a part of
who you are.Peace is not something that can be taken away from you.
Peace comes from the way you choose to be.Though the world around
you may be filled with confusion, noise and turmoil, you can choose to be
peaceful in your own heart. Though life is filled with difficult challenges
and setbacks that pop up out of nowhere, you can choose to move through
each moment with a peaceful heart. When you live only for the shallow,
fleeting, frivolous things, then true peace will most certainly elude you.
The way to choose peace is by investing yourself in real and lasting
values. No one can force your heart to be at peace. And no one can
chase true peace away from you when it is there.Imagine how powerful
it would be to live each day with peace in your heart. And know that it is
always there for you to
choose.

[IslamCity] Look at What THEY Did to US

2005-04-17 Thread Karim A G

http://www.aljazeerah.info/Opinion%20editorials/2005%20Opinion%20Editorials/April/13o/Look%20at%20What%20THEY%20Did%20to%20US%20By%20Sam%20Hamod.htm

Look at What THEY Did to US

By Sam Hamod

Al-Jazeerah, April 13, 2005

If I hear the phrase, We had a right to attack Iraq
because of what THEY did to US, once again, Im going to shout,
Shut Up!

First of all, most Muslims condemned the actions of Bin Laden
or whoever was responsible for the attacks of 9/11; this is a fact, but most
Americans dont know this and continue believing the falsehoods being
perpetrated by Zionists, their media, especially Fox TV and radio.

Second, Muslim governments are doing what they can to stop
all radicals so that they do no commit any illegal or immoral acts.

Thirdly, Saddam Hussein, as bad a man as he was, was never in
league with Bin Ladenin fact, they had been trying to kill one another
for several years. Bin Laden was a right wing, born again Muslim,
whose equivalent is a right-wing born again Christianboth of these types
of people know everything, talk to God, he talks to them and no one else in the
world knows anything or can judge them (at least thats what they say and
think); on the other hand, Saddam was a secularist of the first order; thus, anathema
to Bin Laden, as Bin Laden was anathema to Saddam.

Fourth, Saddam never killed as many Iraqis as the American
invasion of 1991 and the recent GW Bush attack and killings in Iraq. Saddam
did take revenge on the Shia and the Kurds after the first Gulf War when
the Shia and Kurds stood up, with American urging, to try to overthrow
Saddam. The Shia and Kurds had been promised support if they stood up to
Saddam. They did stand up, they were winning, but then no American support, or
UN support came, and then they were routed and Saddam took his revenge on them.
Thus, we let them down, they didnt let us down.

Finally, a few people, who may have been Muslims did attack
the Trade Towers on 9/11not most Muslims, and they killed about 2000
people; but this is nothing compared to the over 130,000 Iraqis Americans have
killed since the U.S. invasion of Iraq in this recent warnot to mention
the thousands who will die from the Depleted Uranium our American troops have
used in their weapons, that lies on the ground in Iraq and will be active for
over a million years!

So when someone says, We can attack them for what they
did to ustell them they are full of crap and dont know a
damn thing about history or reality, but are nothing but puppets speaking the
garbage they ingest from Fox and other corrupt news stations that are lying to
the American people and poisoning their minds.

NO, THEY DOES NOT EXISTSOME PEOPLE LIKE BIN LADEN
EXIST, BUT THERE IS NO MUSLIM THEY OR ARAB THEY WHO ATTACKED AMERICA OR THE
TRADE TOWERS ON 9/11AND
WHOEVER DID IT ATTACKED THE TRADE TOWERS, NOT THE REST OF AMERICA, THEY DID NOT
ATTACK US. SO LETS CLEAN UP OUR VOCABULARY AND
OUR STATEMENTS LEST WE FALL PREY TO MORE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY PERPETRATED BY
OUR MEDIA AND OUR LYING GOVERNMENT.

[IslamCity] Fallujah: Dresden in Iraq

2005-04-17 Thread MA PA

Fallujah: Dresden in Iraq
by Ken Sanders
Tuesday, April 12, 2005

Although studiously ignored by the mainstream news media, last month came reports that the U.S. used napalm and chemical weapons in its assault upon the city of Fallujah. The assault of November 2004 resulted in the near-total destruction of the city, as well as the deaths of thousands of non-insurgent Iraqi civilians. If the reports about napalm and chemical weapons are true, not only would the U.S. be in violation of international law, it would be guilty of the very crimes against humanity that it previously leveled against Saddam Hussein and used as a justification for invading Iraq.Reportedly, Dr. Khalid ash-Shaykhli of the Iraq Ministry of Health held a press conference last month and charged the U.S. with using napalm, mustard gas, and nerve gas when it attacked Fallujah in November 2004. Dr. ash-Shaykhli described "melted" bodies and fires that could not be put out with water. Similarly, Dr. ash-Shaykhli
described entire sections of the city where nothing, neither cats nor dogs nor birds, was left alive, suggesting the use of chemical weapons.Promptly, the United States denied Dr. ash-Shaykhli's allegations about mustard and nerve gasses. The U.S. even went so far as to deny the very existence of Dr. ash-Shaykhli or that anyone by that name ever worked for Iraq's Ministry of Health. According to the U.S., the false story about the U.S. military's use of chemical and nerve gasses in Fallujah was invented by a web site pretending to be that of the Qatari television network Al Jazeera.Unfortunately, the U.S. denial of wrongdoing in Fallujah cannot withstand scrutiny. For example, while the U.S. is correct that a fake Al Jazeera ("aljazeera.com") published a story about U.S. atrocities in Fallujah, the U.S. glosses over the fact that the real Al Jazeera ("aljazeera.net") published a similar story. On March 17, 2005, the real Al Jazeera reported on the wholesale
killings of civilians by U.S. forces in Fallujah, including through the use of napalm. In that story, the real Al Jazeera provided eye-witness accounts of U.S. forces killing entire families, including women and children. Likewise, the real Al Jazeera reported that the U.S. raided the only hospital in Fallujah at the beginning of the assault in order to prevent reports of civilian casualties. The U.S. has yet to attempt to discredit the story published by the real Al Jazeera.Furthermore, U.S. denials about using prohibited weapons in Fallujah, particularly napalm, lack credibility inasmuch as the U.S. was forced to retract previous denials of similar accusations. On March 22, 2003, following the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that U.S. forces had used napalm. Noting that napalm had been banned by a United Nations convention in 1980 (a convention never signed by the U.S.), U.S. military spokesmen denied using napalm in Iraq. On August 5,
2003, however, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that U.S. officials confirmed using "napalm-like" weapons in Iraq between March and April 2003.In a feat of semantic hair-splitting of which Bill Clinton would have been proud, the U.S. claimed the incendiaries used in Iraq contained less benzene than the internationally-banned napalm and, therefore, were "firebombs" and not napalm. According to U.S. officials, had reporters asked about firebombs in March of 2003, the U.S. would have confirmed their use. Nonetheless, the U.S. was forced to concede that regardless of the technicalities, the napalm-like weapons were functionally equivalent to napalm. In fact, the difference between napalm and firebombs is so minute that U.S. forces still refer to the weapons as napalm. With that kind of track-record, it is difficult to swallow the recent denials by the U.S. that it used napalm or any other banned weapons in Fallujah.Such denials are even less convincing when
contrasted with eye-witness reports of what happened in Fallujah. There are, first of all, the findings by Dr. Khalid ash-Shaykhil of Iraq's Ministry of Health that U.S. forces used napalm and chemical weapons in Fallujah. However, even taking as true the U.S. claim that Dr. ash-Shaykhli never existed, much less worked for Iraq's Ministry of Health, he is not the only individual to claim that the U.S. used banned weapons in Fallujah.

[IslamCity] Opposition politicians warned the government not to use Al-Azhar blast (http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2005/738/eg5.htm)

2005-04-17 Thread sahannan

No excuse
Opposition politicians warned the government not to use
Al-Azhar blast as a pretext to clamp down on political reform. Mona
El-Nahhas reports

Opposition parties and movements were quick to condemn last
Thursday's terrorist attack. They tempered that, however, with a warning
to the government against using the blast as a pretext to stifle reform
efforts.
Most opposition figures said the blast had proven the total
ineffectiveness of emergency laws that have been in place since 1981.
"The attack provided clear-cut evidence of the failure of such laws,"
said Hussein Abdel-Razeq, secretary- general of the Tagammu Party. "If
the government really wanted to confront violence and terrorism, it
would be better off providing more democracy, and combating corruption,"
Abdel- Razeq said.
The Tagammu's statement condemning the bombing also said the
government needed to "conduct fair parliamentary and presidential
elections, liberate the media from the hegemony of the ruling National
Democratic Party, and lift all restrictions on civil society
organisations."
The outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group also stressed the necessity of
forging on with reform despite the blast. Mahdi Akef, the group's
Supreme Guide, condemned the attack, saying it was out of synch with
"the nature of the Egyptian people to target the country's stability".

Groups like the Popular Movement for Change, also known as Kifaya
(Enough), are worried that the government will use the attack to reduce
the hard-earned, but still relatively limited, margin of freedom allowed
them to move. The movement's Abul-Ela Madi said Kifaya would not allow
anything or anybody "to dissipate our recent political gains". Sources
close to the movement said Kifaya was planning to hold demonstrations in
nearly 13 governorates on 27 April.
In late March, however, demonstrations organised by Kifaya were
banned. That proved, said Magdi Hussein, secretary-general of the
suspended, Labour Party, that "even if the Khan Al- Khalili attack had
not taken place, the government was already intending to tighten its
grip on freedoms." Hussein predicted that the state would exploit the
incident to silence political activity. "Demonstrations will be banned,
political activists arrested, and the emergency laws extended," he said.
Hussein pointed to a column by Galal Dweidar in the government-aligned
Al- Akhbar accusing the recent wave of demonstrations by
activists of all stripes for being directly or indirectly responsible
for the blast.
Dweidar's column, Hussein said, was just the start of a campaign
meant to bolster support for the further propagation of the emergency
state. He said the government was the blast's only beneficiary. "It
provided them with a ripe opportunity to silence opposing voices --
conveniently prior to elections." The long-time opposition politician
and activist vowed, however, to continue staging demonstrations in
defiance of the government. "The government should not be allowed to
hinder the Egyptian people's march towards democracy and freedom,"
Hussein said.
Liberal Party Chairman Helmi Salem agreed that it was "illogical to
shackle the public with emergency laws forever, in fear of another
attack". Salem said the blast should not be used to backtrack from the
recent steps taken by the government to provide a slightly more
democratic climate.
Over the last few months, in response to internal and external
pressures for democracy and reform, the government has certainly
appeared less aloof vis-ˆ-vis opposition demands. The NDP has been
engaged in a national dialogue with opposition parties since January
and, in an unexpected move, Mubarak asked the People's Assembly in
February to amend Article 76 of the constitution to allow for direct
presidential elections between several candidates.
The most significant change, meanwhile, has been on the streets,
where an increasing number of demonstrations -- many of which centered
on the previously taboo subject of the presidency itself -- have been
taking place. In late March, even the Brotherhood appeared to shift
course after nearly three decades of relative non- confrontation with
the government, staging several high profile, pro-reform protests that
resulted in the arrests of dozens of its members. Some analysts said it
was the Brotherhood's entrance

[IslamCity] Who's the Real WMD Threat?

2005-04-17 Thread adil naveed

http://www.antiwar.com/orig/wokusch.php?articleid=5564

Who's the Real WMD Threat?
How the Bush administration's biological weapons
buildup affects you
by Heather Wokusch
News that a U.S. company recently sent vials of a 1957
pandemic flu strain to laboratories across the world
by accident is only the latest outrage from the
billion-dollar boondoggle called the federal
biological weapons program.

As you might recall, the Bush administration started
its bio-defense spending spree following the
September 2001 deadly anthrax attacks, and one of its
first projects was to genetically engineer a
super-resistant, even more deadly version of the
anthrax virus.

Our leaders are nuts.

Unfortunately, Project Anthrax Jefferson has good
company. A U.S. Army scientist in Maryland is
currently trying to bring back elements of the 1918
Spanish flu, a virus that killed 40 million people.
And a virologist in St. Louis has been working on a
more lethal form of mousepox (related to smallpox) –
just to try stopping the virus once it has been
created.

Lack of oversight and runaway spending are exacerbated
by the Bush administration's disrespect for the
internationally recognized Biological Weapons
Convention. In short, reduced pressure on weapons labs
to issue declarations and allow inspections means less
accountability – and more opportunities for secrecy
and abuse.

Put bluntly, the increasing number of stateside
bio-weapons blunders should come as no surprise. In
February 2003, for example, the University of
California at Davis (UCD) took a full 10 days to
inform nearby communities that a rhesus monkey had
escaped from its primate-breeding facility.
Coincidentally, UCD had been vying for government
funds to set up its own hot zone bio-defense lab
that could use primates for biological weapons
testing. If that monkey had been infected with ebola
or some other virus, it's unclear when or if the
public would have been informed.

At roughly the same time that the monkey ditched UCD,
the Pentagon unearthed over 2,000 tons of hazardous
biological waste in Maryland, much of it undocumented
leftovers of an abandoned germ warfare program.
Nearby, the FBI was draining a pond for clues into
2001's anthrax attacks.

Doesn't inspire much trust in the transparency of U.S.
biological weapons programs.

And things appear only to be getting worse.

In 2004, a whopping $6 billion went up for grabs for
federal bio-defense programs, and laboratories across
the country went ballistic trying to get their hands
on some of that cash. Predictably, cases of fraud and
abuse quickly surfaced.

In June 2004, for example, the Army was caught
shirking inspections at a major bio-defense lab under
its domain. The scandal went back to 1999, when the
Army commissioned a biological and chemical
weapons-agent lab at Tennessee's Oak Ridge National
Laboratory. Oversight regulations obligated the Army
to inspect the lab each year thereafter, and the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) were supposed to
have inspected the lab on a regular basis, too.

Everything seemed to be running smoothly; in December
2003, the committee in charge of safety at the Oak
Ridge lab announced that it remains comfortable of
the review and inspections of the Chem/Bio Facility
conducted by the CDC and the Army.

Small problem. In 2004, the Department of Energy's
inspector general discovered that the Army actually
hadn't inspected the Oak Ridge bio-defense lab for the
previous three years, and that the CDC hadn't been
there for four years. Yet the lab's safety committee
said it was comfortable with the imaginary
inspections.

Also in 2004, a military bio-defense contractor called
Southern Research landed in hot water by accidentally
sending live anthrax across the country from
Frederick, Md., to the Children's Hospital of Oakland
(Calif.). To make matters worse, it turns out that
Southern Research's lab in Maryland didn't even
maintain the institutional bio-safety committee
required by federal research rules. The punishment for
these acts of gross incompetence and irresponsibility?
The Bush administration gave Southern Research the
task of safeguarding a new $30 million biological
weapons facility being built near Chicago.

In September of the same year, three lab workers at
the Boston University Medical Center were accidentally
exposed to a potentially lethal bio-warfare agent
called tularemia bacterium. The lab didn't report the
tularemia infections until two months later, though –
after it had won a contract to build a new, $178
million bio-defense laboratory.

Concerns about lack of transparency and monetary waste
aside, the administration's bio-weapons buildup raises
obvious ethical problems. Why should the U.S. create
newer, even deadlier viruses? Who are these
catastrophic weapons going to be tested on? What
populations will they ultimately be used against?

These questions take on urgent meaning given the Bush
administration's military adventurism coupled

Salaamz

As im writing this, a remarkable little boy is
fighting a very tough battle against cancer in the Johannesburg General
Hospital.8 year old Mohammed Qasim has twotypes of leukemia and
is under treatment at the moment. He has ulcers in his mouth and throat and
hasnt eaten solid food for over three weeks. As this bright and bubbly
little boy, this mahsoom child, this precious servant of Allah suffers the
pain of the disease - i ask you all to PLEASE spare a moment to make dua for
him - and for his family. May Allah swt make it easy for them. whatever dua
comes to your heart - let it flow, for the pleasure of Allah.

May your duas be accepted and may Allah swt
reward your efforts.

Please please pass this on - please find it in
your heart to supplicate to Allah for this child who is bearing it all with
acceptance tolerance and patience. A few moments for the months of suffering
he has been through- please?

Shukran
