Many allegations have been made that Islamic slaughter is not humane to animals. However, Professor Schultz and his colleague Dr. Hazim of the Hanover University, Germany, proved through an experiment, using an electroencephalograph (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) that *Islamic slaughter is THE humane method of slaughter* and captive bolt stunning, practiced by the Western method, causes severe pain to the animal. The results surprised many. Experimental Details: 1. Several electrodes were surgically implanted at various points of the skull of all animals, touching the surface of the brain. 2. The animals were allowed to recover for several weeks. 3. Some animals were slaughtered by making a swift, deep incision with a sharp knife on the neck cutting the jugular veins and carotid Arteries of both sides; as also the trachea and esophagus Halaal Method. 4. Some animals were stunned using a captive bolt pistol humane slaughter by the western method. 5. During the experiment, EEG and ECG were recorded on all animals to record the condition of the brain and heart during the course of slaughter and stunning. Results and Discussion: I - Halaal Method 1. The first three seconds from the time of Islamic slaughter as recorded on the EEG did not show any change from the graph before slaughter, thus indicating that the animal did not feel any pain during or immediately after the incision. 2. For the following 3 seconds, the EEG recorded a condition of deep sleep - unconsciousness. This is due to a large quantity of blood gushing out from the body. 3. After the above-mentioned 6 seconds, the EEG recorded zero level, showing no feeling of pain at all. 4. As the brain message (EEG) dropped to zero level, the heart was still pounding and the body convulsing vigorously (a reflex action of the spinal cord) driving maximum blood from the body: resulting in hygienic meat for the consumer. II - Western method by C.B.P. Stunning 1. The animals were apparently unconscious soon after stunning. 2. EEG showed severe pain immediately after stunning. 3. The hearts of the animal stunned by C.B.P. stopped beating earlier as compared to those of the animals slaughtered according to the Halaal method resulting in the retention of more blood in the meat. This in turn is unhygienic for the consumer. [IslamCity] VIRTUES OF SALAAT - HADITH 1
Hadhrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radhiyallaho anho) narrates
that he heard the Prophet (Sallallaho alaihe wasallam)
saying:
Islam is founded on five pillars: bearing witness
that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad
(Sallallaho alaihe wasallam) is His servant and
apostle; establishment of salaat; paying of Zakaat;
performance of Hajj; and fasting in Ramadhaan.
The Prophet (Sallallaho alaihe wasallam) has compared
Islam to a canopy resting on five supports. The
Kali-mah is the central support and the other four
pillars of Islam are, so to say, the remaining four
supports, one at each corner of the canopy. Without
the central support, the canopy cannot possibly stand,
and if any one of the corner supports is missing a
collapse will result in the defective corner. Now, let
us judge for ourselves how far we have kept up the
canopy of Islam. Is there really any pillar that is
being held in its proper place?
The five pillars of Islam mentioned in this Hadith
signify the most essential duties of a Muslim.
Although a Muslim cannot do without any one of them,
yet salaat in Islam occupies a position next only to
Imaan. Hadhrat Abdullah bin Mas'ood (Radhiyallaho
anho) says:
Once, I inquired of the Holy Prophet (Sallallaho
alaihe wasallam), which act (of man) was the dearest
to Allah. The Prophet replied, 'salaat'. I then
inquired which act came next (in order of merit) and
the Prophet replied, 'Kindness to parents'. I again
asked what was next and he answered 'Jihaad'.
Mulla Ali Qari (Rahmatullah alaih) has quoted this
Hadith in support of the belief that salaat is the
most important religious duty after Imaan. This is
further corroborated by a hadith, in which the Holy
Prophet (Sallallaho alaihe wasallam) is reported to
have said:
Salaat is the best
of all that has been ordained by Allah.

Muslim Aid distributes food
supplies to Somalis.
CAIRO, April 9, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) Muslim aid
organizations in Britain have stepped up assistance to East Africa and
launched urgent donation campaigns as the region has been hit by the worst
drought wave in living memory.
Islamic Relief (IR) is providing emergency assistance in the
Mandera region of Kenya in the north-east, the London-based Muslim aid
group said in a press release on its website Saturday, April 8.
"Emergency water distribution continues in Kabo and
Kamor-Libaan in Lafey division where 2000 people receive 10,000lts of
water daily," it said.
Water distributions to five more villages in the Lafey area
are being organized.
A Supplementary Feeding Program is providing food each week
to almost 600 malnourished children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and
the elderly in Kamor-Libaan, Damasa, Libehiya and Kabo.
In Ethiopia, the group said up to five water tankers to
Hargelle, Charrati and Filtu towns, reaching some 30,000
people.
In partnership with UNICEF, Islamic Relief will also be
setting up two water treatment stations to purify river water.
The group has further launched an online
donation
campaign.
The United Nations appealed Friday, April 7, for hundreds of
millions of dollars in urgent aid to rescue million of lives threatened in
draught-hit East Africa.
Since late 2005, east Africans have been facing hunger and
losing livestock, due to a drought one aid agency, Oxfam, said will take
15 years to recover from.
The drought has hit Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia hardest, but
also Djibouti, Eritrea, Burundi, Uganda and Tanzania.
Food Distribution
London-based Muslim Aid is now providing more than £124,000
to those suffering from famine in Somalia and Kenya.
"Muslim Aid is planning early food distribution for
communities to the west, near the Bakool border, if the hoped-for rains
fail to materialize," Ahmed Mohammad, country director of Muslim Aid
Somalia said in a press release.
In the second phase, Muslim Aid plans to distribute food,
water, medicine and nutrition biscuits to 35,000 people in the southern
Somalia regions of Gedo and Bay, where 1.7 million people are in need of
food aid.
In all, 117 tonnes of food will be distributed to 7,500
families, with each family receiving about 16 kilograms of food. The group
has accepts online
donations.
Mohammad warned that cattle and goats have been most
affected.
"Predictions indicate that the situation is likely to worsen
unless April rains bring some hope."
Hundreds of thousands of livestock and wildlife have perished
from the drought further damaging prospects for many.
Muslim Aid is also working with the Kakamenga Muslim Teachers
Welfare group and the Mandera Islamic Centre to bring emergency food,
water and medical relief to Wajir and Mandera in north-east
Kenya.

[IslamCity] Muslim heritage: European Universities
Peace be upon you, Muslim Heritage: European Universities The oldest English and European universities, where some of us receive our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, started to appear in the 12th century. They spread quickly from Southern Italy and across to England, but why did they suddenly appear? Muslim learning hit medieval Europe when a massive translation exercise began in the 12th century of Arabic works from the previous 500 years. The main center of this translation was Toledo (Spain). Before this reservoir of knowledge spilled north, learning in Europe was really kept in the domain of the clergy who mainly studied the Bible. The church was the teaching institute, and to get a good education you had to become a member of the clergy. But scientific or rational thought wasn't encouraged. In fact, if anyone brought a scientific explanation other than religious, they would more than likely have been called a heretic and met an unfortunate end. At the same time in the Muslim lands scientific thought was hugely encouraged. So when the Arabic works were translated, the rational thoughts from experiments carried out were made available in Latin to a new audience. This established a `rational scholasticism' in Europe. One of the main achievements of the Muslim scholars a thousand years ago was that they introduced an experimental approach and took nothing for granted. The greatest pressure was from Averroes, as Ibn Rushd was known in the West, whose radical espousal of Aristotle rocked the whole continent starting with Paris then hitting the universities of Padua and Bologna. This blew open the whole area of proving that there didn't need to be any conflict between religion and science. The influx of these Muslim tomes of knowledge which explored the world and heavens in a rational way, meant that new institutions in Europe appeared. No longer could these new ideas be kept inside the monasteries. So learning shifted from here to cathedral schools. The monasteries had limited students to a particular order, but the cathedral schools gained international reputations drawing students from all over Europe, producing more independent thinkers. One of the new leading institutions was Chartes, a French cathedral school. The work done here paved the way and laid the foundations for the Renaissance. Under the tuition of Thierry of Chartes, in the 1140s, students were taught that the scientific approach was compatible with the story of creation in the Bible. In other words religion was no longer contradicting science. This was a revolutionary new concept and Thierry was incredibly courageous, teaching despite critics. This emerging scientific spirit of Europe found answers in Muslim books, which Thierry was ambitious to collect and his personal library contained many texts translated from Arabic. These cathedral schools soon gave way to the rise of universities towards the end of the 12th century, although they were not granted recognized charters until the 13th century. So the availability of well referenced and researched material kick-started European tertiary education. The first university of Western Europe was at Salerno in Southern Italy which burst into life in the late 11th century after the arrival of Constantine the African. His rich cargo of books came initially from his native Tunisia, and legend has it that he fell into the sea and lost part of his treasure, but what he salvaged, he translated into Latin. These medical boks had come from the al-Qayrawan mosque college complex. It was these books that triggered the beginning of medical higher learning in Europe, because previously Europe had little or no access to research undertaken. The French city of Montpellier was an offshoot of Salerno and a major center for the study of Muslim medicine and astronomy. It was close to Muslim Spain with its large presence of learned Muslims and Jews. Montpellier attracted students from all regions to study as early as 1137. One such student was Robert the Englishman who arrived around 1270 and wrote a treatise on the astrolabe `De Astrolabio Canones' and a treatise on the quadrant. Both the astrolabe and quadrant were Muslim instruments. By the beginning of the 12th century the thought powerhouse of the western world had shifted onto Paris or `a city of teachers' as the knowledge of Arabic works was continuing its journey with roving scholars. The Paris intellectuals were in three great schools: the cathedral of Notre Dame, the canons regular of St Victor and the abbey of St Genevieve across the river. The cathedral school of Notre Dame showed the greatest transformation and by 1170 the university was taking shape as it was fed by the translated, scientific cutting edge material that was filtering north. Little by little, Parisian masters and students grouped themselves into four faculties: arts, theology, law and medicine. These centers of learning gave birth to Oxford university, partly

These standards are highly problematic; they will allow the same very low quality meat that is now being offered in the Muslim community to be certified as halal. Although certification is a very lucrative business, we are selling ourselves short; for the sake of a share in this market, we are selling our health, our children's health, and any dignity we have as Muslims in the eyes of the world when they see what we consider as 'halal': tortured, disease-infested animals raised on farms that employ modern-day slave laborers - all so that we can have access to a lucrative market and cheap food. What is even worse than that is the Baraka of Allah most High that we will forfeit as a community because of the completely unwholesome food we are consuming; food raised in the most corrupt and pernicious ways. By allowing our community to implicate us in these issues through this certification program, we are indirectly condoning and perpetuating the many manifestations of corruption and oppression in the world today. The CONTENTS of this document are: 1. The ISNA Halal Certification Program objectives 2. Brief list of problems with the standards 3. Our request 4. FAQ 5. Quranic proofs related to food production and consumption (1) The ISNA Halal Certification Program objectives: i) To make Halal standards that will become law in the state of Illinois ii) To activate Muslim leaders to establish halal as Muslim identity in North America iii) Unifying National Halal Standards ISNA will propose the National Halal Standards (2) The STANDARDS for Halal slaughter being proposed by ISNA are problematic in many areas. JAUNPUR: A tantrik and his disciple were arrested here
on Monday for allegedly digging up the body of an
18-month-old boy and eating it to attain supernatural
powers.
The two, who were arrested from Mutharabad Shah area
of the district, had admitted to exhuming the body and
consuming it after cutting off the head in order to
attain supernatural powers, senior superintendent of
police Abhay Kumar Prasad said on Monday.
He said the head of the child, who had died a week
earlier due to some illness, was found lying near the
grave but the body was missing.
Suspecting the hand of a tantrik, police launched a
manhunt and arrested the two on Monday, he said.
The 'Aghora' Saivite sect of ascetics that live on the
banks of the river Ganga at Varanasi reportedly eat
corpses in the belief that it would help them attain
supernatural powers.
