  As
  Salaamu Alaikum,

The book sells for $11.95US/$14.95CAN, insh'Allah. We
want to place it on your web site. Please send us the
  details.
  Synopsis:

  Islam Through Quotations
This book is written for Muslims living outside of Islamic countries
and do not know the Arabic language so they may understand, with the least
effort, the basic principles and spirit of their religion. With so many
misrepresentations about Islam; this book should also be useful to
non-Muslims to understand Islam, and Muslims, better.
The word “Islam” means peace, submission to God’s will and obedience to
His laws. It is based mainly on the Quran revealed by God to His Messenger
and Prophet Mohamed and the Prophet’s application of the rules thus
revealed. Islam is the continuation of all former religious principles
decreed by God through His revelations to all prophets. The prophets
include Moses, Jesus Christ (as a prophet but not as a divine) and many of
the prophets and leaders of the Old Testament. Unlike other religions,
there is no titular head, clergy, nor priesthood in all of Islam.
Also, unlike the way other religions are understood and practiced,
Islam is a “way of life” that encompasses all aspects of community
activities, not only supplication to God. Indeed, it is said (1:874)* that
“the true saint in Islam goes in and out amongst people and sleeps with
them, buys and sells in the market, marries and takes part in social
intercourse, and never forgets God for a single moment”.
Islam is presented in this book through quotations to eliminate the
effect of the writer’s personal opinion. Quotations are taken mainly from
the Quran and the Prophet’s “Hadith” (quotations). Added to them are
quotations from the “Rightly Guided Caliphs.” The reason for choosing the
quotations from these caliphs is that they were constant companions of the
Prophet and, therefore, understood Islam “first hand.” The quotations
cited present, therefore, a view of Islam free from accretions of
  tradition; in its purest form.

  Author's Bio:

  Kamal-Eldin Hassan
Dr. Hassan was born in 1921 in Cairo, Egypt to Hassan Youssef, a Civil
Engineer responsible for building many of the country’s barrages and dams,
  and his wife Amina Amin.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he studied Mechanical Engineering,
receiving his PhD in 1955 from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
He returned to Egypt, and joined the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo
University where he became the Chair Professor of Thermal Power Stations.
During his career, he enjoyed interacting with his students, mentoring and
guiding them through their Masters and Doctorate programs. He also
authored many scientific papers and books. In recognition of his
contributions, he received the Egyptian State Award for Science in
  1975.
In 2003, he presented much of his technical library (over 1400 books)
to the newly established Library of Alexandria, Egypt.
He frequently returned to the United States as a Visiting Professor at
Tulane University, and The Georgia Institute of Technology. He also spent
a year at New Mexico State University as a Senior Foreign Scientist with
  the National Science Foundation.
Believing that Islam’s message is of peace and co-existence; he helped
found the Islamic Society of Atlanta in 1973, and was elected its first
president. He wanted to bridge the gap between Muslims and non-Muslims,
  especially in non-Muslim countries.
Dr. Hassan understood Islam as a way of life that focuses on the
freedom of choice, not as dogmas and rituals. This is the message he
wanted to convey to his American born and raised grandchildren. So for
over twenty years, he taught them that in his deeds, and he dedicated this
book to them and to people like
them.

Assalam alaikum,Jazaak Allah khair for your answers, clearing anyone mistakes doesnt mean to be treated as ill manner or harsh, how i disrespectful?Alhamdulillah my intention was just to rectify a mistake by a muslim..thats it, Allah (swt) knows of itsaba send that mail to everyone in group.. in that mail those points are the answers to be given to non-muslims,so if a non muslim read quran instantly if he/she find that aayat which is mentioned in the answer is not the exact in the answer then?just copy and paste is not required to invite people to Islamic teachings,... i quoted the word bad deed in sense coz people will just read messages send by any Islamic Scholar without considering it properly as everyone will think that the message would be a final verdict the source was from saba through Ibrahim mufti.so it would have beneficial to saba? not only this mail, everyone should read every mail carefully then send
it...it was a mistake of numbers saba should accept it.. .by Allah`s help the ALMIGHTY put a thought in my mind to check those reference numbers in the Quran , may be i would have send this mail to many peoply as well.., if i wouldnt find the wrong number references in the answer so that mail had gone to hunderds/thousands of people..right?..but if anyone got hurt from my words then i`ll be aplogize for it with my heart please forgive me of any word,i again apologize...actually i dont know the mail address of mufti Ibrahim..Best regards,Your brother in Islam.[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:Wa aleikum as-salaam wa rahamatuallah wa barakatuhu. Brother, your published response to "saba" was disrespectful of Allah (S.W.T.) and too harsh and ill-mannered to saba: "spreading wrong
message will be turn into a bad deed instead of getting reward." After reading saba's post, it is clear that the post is a cut-and-paste from an answer given by Mufti Ebrahim Desai to a questioner. Mufti Ebrahim Desai got some of the ayat numbers wrong in his answer, obviously typos, probably from transcription mistakes. The ayat numbers are useful references, especially to further our education and study, but they do not form any part of the Holy Quran as such. The message itself being spread was correct. In any case, Saba relied on the ayat numbers given by the mufti and your criticisms should have been directed to him. For example, the quoted ayat translation that is marked "4:190" is actually 3:190. 18:45 (wrong) is actually 24:45 (correct). Now, ask yourself, wouldn't the following have been a far better response to saba ... ? --- Assalamu aleikum. May Allah (S.W.T.)
reward you and bless you according to your good intentions. The post giving Mufti Ibrahim Desai's answer #11040 contains some ayat numbering errors. Following is a list of the wrongly cited ayats followed by the correct ayat numbers: 4:190 (wrong) should read 3:190 (correct) 18:45 (wrong) should read 24:45 (correct) 18:44 (wrong) should read 24:44 (correct) 14:66 (wrong) should read 16:66 (correct) 14:68 (wrong) should read 16:68-69 (correct) 68:30 (wrong) should read 67:30 (correct) Wasalaam. - Had you sent the above kind of response, not only would it have been much better-mannered, but it would have gained for YOU the reward of increasing the access of others to knowledge by correcting the ayat numbering errors, rather than simply blathering with "gotchas" about how many ayats are actually in this or that Surah. To get even more reward in the akhirat, you could have topped it off
by emailing Mufti Ebrahim Desai at [EMAIL PROTECTED] to let him know of the transcription errors and to politely request a correction. Instead you: a. falsely judged that a wrong message was being spread and b. falsely decreed that this "will" turn saba's post into a "bad deed instead of getting reward." Allah (S.W.T.) knows whether saba's post "will" turn into a "bad deed". Who are you to issue such a decree? On a separate issue, you mention "read Quran its Correct translation". There is no such thing as a "correct translation" of the Holy Quran - only an effort to paraphrase the actual Arabic meaning in English. To claim that there is such a thing as a "correct translation" is spreading a wrong message that might mislead others into thinking that such a thing exists. And to use a recently coined phrase, "spreading wrong message will be turn into a bad deed instead of getting reward."
Suggestions: *Repent to Allah (S.W.T.) for pronouncing what He "will" do. *Repent to Allah (S.W.T.) and post your affirmation of the correct understanding that the Holy Quran is an Arabic Quran. *Apologize to saba for the ill-mannered response. May Allah (S.W.T.) protect us all, myself included, from making such mistakes. And I (rabiatthani1427) seek from Allah (S.W.T.) His forgiveness for any fitnah resulting from this message. --- In islamcity@yahoogroups.com, Mohammed Khan wrote: Assalam alaikum to All, everyone should investigate first properly before

according to some school of thoughts “Rafa Yadain” is compulsory while offering SALAH. However, as per the interpretation of Hanfi school of thought, the approach is some how different
I would like to have your say about one of the issue which I face while offering the prayers (Nimaz). It would be very kind of you if a detailed clarification could be given about the above mentioned issue as to what method should be adopted that is also best supported by Sunnah / Hadith.

Answer 16597

2006-03-24

The issue of Raf-ul yadayn is not of permissibility and non-permissibiliy. It is an issue of Afzaliyyah (more virtuous). One Hadith states: Ibn Mas’ood [radhiallaahu anhu] says, ‘I shall show you how Nabi [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] performed Salaat and he only made Raf-ul yadayn in the beginning of Salaat.’ (Sunan al-Tirmidhi Hadith257) Based on this, Imaam Abu Hanifa and Imaam Maalik [ra] preferred this view that one should only raise his hands in the beginning of Salaat at the Takbeer Tahrima. (Naylul Awtaar vol.2 pg.185; Ilmiyah) Another Hadith states: Ibn Umar [radhiallaahu anhu] mentions that Nabi [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] used to raise his hands when he commenced Salaat, at the time of going into Ruku and when he came up from Ruku. (Bukhari). Based on this Hadith, Imaam al-Shaafi’ee and Imaam Ahmad ibn Hanbal [ra] preferred Raf-ul- yadayn in other postures as well. However, all the Imaams consider both views – to life the hands in all postures or only in the beginning as permissible. According to Imaam Abu Hanifa and Imaam Maalik, it is also permissible to lift the hands in all postures. According to Imaam al-Shaafi’ee and Imaam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, it is not compulsory to lift the hands in all postures. and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best Mufti Ebrahim Desai

under investigation forthe rape of an 11-year-old girl at an Israeli air base, the militaryconfirmed yesterday.A spokesman for the Israeli army told the local press that theincident was very grave and "seriously deviates from appropriatebehavioural norms and values".According to reports in the Israeli media, the girl - whose father isa non-commissioned officer in the army - was living with her family atan air base in the south of Israel. She began to have sex withsoldiers and workers at the base from the age of 11 until the age of14.The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told investigatorsthat she agreed to sex, but according to Israeli law a girl under 16cannot legally engage in consensual sex, and the men are expected tobe charged with statutory rape. The news was greeted with shock by Israelis, who tend to believe theirarmy is morally superior to those in other countries. The
soldiersquestioned in the case said that the girl told them she was 16 or 17,and that they had no idea of her real age. One of the suspects toldthe daily Maariv that the girl initiated the sexual encounters.Military police became suspicious during a separate investigation andinformed the base commander. The girl's family has since moved fromthe base and she has been in hospital several times for psychiatricillness, the reports said. The soldiers under investigation are still serving although they arenot allowed to be promoted or go on training courses. Police arecarrying out a parallel investigation related to the civiliansuspects. The case marks a new low for the military, once Israel's most reveredinstitution, which has been tarnished in recent years by incidents offinancial corruption and sexual misconduct.Air force officers were horrified by the scandal. One colonel told thenewspaper Haaretz:
"We are still trying to understand how thishappened. I don't understand how our soldiers violated the norms ofthe IDF [Israel Defence Force] in such a callous way. What bothers meno less is the fact that we, the commanders, didn't know about it."We're trying to check how we missed such a serious incident for sucha long time. I'm worried by the fact that not one soldier raised a redflag - not those who participated in the acts and not their friendswho might have known about it. I would have expected that there wouldbe a righteous man in Sodom who would complain so that these terribleacts would be stopped."A former army psychologist told Israel radio that the continuedoffences would have required a widespread "conspiracy of silence".Colonel Gadi Amir said: "This kind of phenomenon couldn't havehappened without many other people knowing about it, includingofficers. I believe there was a conspiracy of silence in
this case."Col Amir, former head of the army's behaviour sciences department, said the scandal marked a low point in military conduct. "This is wellbeyond a criminal offence. It is rape and it is a breach of norms andethical codes that, without them, our army cannot continue to exist."Court cases against senior army officers charged with sexualharassment and assault have been on the increase in recent years.Experts say it reflects a gradual shift in Israeli society towardwomen asserting their rights and refusing to accept behaviour thatused to be considered routine.A pressure group of ex-soldiers called Breaking the Silence has workedfor two years to force Israeli society to confront the crimescommitted by soldiers in their name by recording testimonies about theabuse and murder of Palestinians.*Letter of responce to above article to Guardian from Adib S.

Women preachers: Morocco's new weapon against Islamic extremism

Fri Apr 28, 2:17 AM ET

RABAT (AFP) - In a project unknown in Islam, Morocco has just graduated its first team of women preachers to be deployed as a vanguard in the kingdom's fight against any slide towards Islamic extremism.

"This is a rare experiment in the Muslim world," proudly stated Mohamed Mahfoud, director of the center attached to the Islamic affairs ministry that trained this first class of 50 women.
Ministry spokesman Hamid Rono said it was the "first (of its kind) in the Islamic world".
This pioneer group of Morchidat, or guides, who finished a 12-month course in early April, were trained to "accompany and orient" Muslim faithful, notably in prisons, hospitals and schools, said Mahfoud.
They will earn a salary of 5,000 dirhams (450 euros, 560 dollars) per month.
Short and plump, a scarf knotted around her head to cover her hair in line with religious custom, a smiling Samira Marzouk, in her 30s like most of the others, exclaims how "proud" she is to be part of this first group.
She sees their mission as one to "fill in the gaps that prevent a solid framework for religion".
"We are going to teach a tolerant Islam by focussing on the underprivileged classes," she added. They will notably work with women and children in poor ghettoes seen as fertile ground for extremist recruiters.
The idea of the Morchidat, spearheaded by King Mohammed VI and the government, took off after Islamic extremist attacks in the Moroccan economic capital Casablanca on May 16, 2003 claimed 45 lives -- including the 12 bombers -- and left dozens of others wounded.
The King -- who is a descendant of Islam's founder, the Prophet Mohamed, and enjoys wide powers -- had already started reshaping religious structures to rein in any extremist drift in his North African country, which borders Algeria where violence between government forces and armed Islamic extremists has caused more than 150,000 deaths since 1992.
But the synchronized suicide bomb attacks that hit Jewish and foreign targets gave new urgency to the initiative.
More than 2,000 people were arrested in vast police sweeps after the May bombings as the king vowed the attacks would be the last to rock Morocco. Investigators concluded that those behind the incident had indeed sought recruits in the teeming slums around Casablanca, Morocco's biggest city.
Marzouk, a young married woman with a diploma in Arab literature who said she knows the Koran by heart, was quick to specify she is "not going to take the place of an imam".
"The imamate in Islam is restricted solely to men who are apt at leading prayers, notably those on Friday," the Islamic holy day, she said.
"The Morchidat will be in charge of leading religious discussions, give courses in Islam, give moral support to people in difficulty and guide the faithful towards a tolerant Islam," she added.
Another graduate, Leila Fares, a lively young woman who holds a degree in Islamic studies, said she saw the Morchidat's role as promoting "the true face of Islam".
"We will help attenuate any drift towards Islamic extremism," she said, stressing that "an overall approach is needed to dealing with radical Islam".
During the year-long course, the curriculum ranged from Islamic studies to psychology, sociology, computer skills, economy, law and business management.
"Sports was the only subject dropped from the women preachers' training because the schedule was just too tight," regretted Mahfoud, who hopes to include it for the second batch of Morchidate trainees, whose applications are now being accepted.
For the Islamic affairs minister, Ahmed Taoufiq, the Morchidat will also "instruct women on their basis religious duties".
He said religious radicalism was not part of Morocco's culture "but you can never prevent evil one hundred percent".
Morocco's Islamic fundamentalists are divided over the inititive.
For one, Islamist deputy Mustapha Ramid with the Islamist Justice and Development party (PJD), the main opposition group with 43 seats in the 325-member parliament, the Morchidat is a "positive" development.
"I see nothing more to say about this initiative because in Islam, men and women are equal," he said, pointing to Egypt which has "eminent women scholars of Islam".
But the head of the youth group in Morocco's most radical Islamic fundamentalist association, Al-Adl Wal-Ihssane (Justice and Welfare), forecast it would have no effect on the ground.
"The power behind this initiative is the same as the one that commits acts contrary to Islam, notably degrading moral values," said Hassan Bennajeh, whose group is part of an Islamist movement that preaches

A Mufti (muslim
scholar) sat next to a Reverend on a flight. The Rev asked the Mufti, What is your occupation?
Mufti: I'm into big business

Rev: But what business exactly?
Mufti: I deal with God

Rev: Ah, so you're a Muslim religious leader. I have one problem with you
Muslims: you oppress your women.
Mufti: How do we oppress women?

Rev: You make your women cover up completely and you keep them in the homes.
Mufti: Ah. I have a problem with you people: you oppress MONEY.

Rev: What? How can one oppress money?
Mufti: You keep your money hidden away, in wallets, banks and safes.. You keep
it covered up. Why don't you display it in public if it's a beautiful thing?

Rev: It will get stolen, obviously.
Mufti: You keep your money hidden because it is so valuable. We value the true
worth of women far, far more. Therefore, these precious jewels are not on
display to one and all. They are kept in honour and dignity

[IslamCity] Masonic Jews Plot To Control World Courtesy:http://www.texemarrs.com/042003/masonic_jews_plot_world_control.htm

2006-05-08 Thread Abdul Wahid Osman Belal

Texe Marrs Now the lid is blown off the forbidden, secret powderkeg of the Masonic Jews who run Israel and, by extension, the United States and the world. Unbeknownst to either the Israeli elite or to America's pro-Israel cabal in Washington, D.C., for over six years I have conducted an intensive investigation of Jewish Masonic influence. Finally, I have released three bombshell videos unmasking my grotesque discoveries in this area, Masonic Lodge Over Jerusalem, Thunder Over Zion, and Cauldron of Abaddon. Illuministic Communism the Goal The goal of the Jewish Masonic elite is to establish dictatorial Illuministic Communism and to enslave all of mankind under the thumb of a Jewish master race led by a world messiah who is to rule from Jerusalem. An essential element in this grandiose plan is the Masonic plot to blow up and destroy Islam's golden-domed
monument now sitting on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, despised by Orthodox Jewish rabbis and the secularist Masonic Illuminists alike. On the heap of its ruins, the Masons intend to build a Jewish Masonic temple where they and their satanically energized messiah shall worship and pay homage to the Egyptian double-headed eagle deity, Mammon-Ra, the god of money and prosperity (Daniel 11:37-39). The Jews are beset with an unbridled ambition—a consuming desire to acquire global power and establish once and for all their long-delayed Zionist Kingdom on planet earth. Freemasonry is Jewish Magic One of the unheralded and least known facts about Freemasonry and the Masonic
Lodge is its Jewish origins and nature. The religion of Judaism, based on the Babylonian Talmud, and the Jewish Cabala (or, Kabala), an alchemical system of magic and deviltry, form the basis for the Scottish Rite's 33 ritual degree ceremonies. Thus, The Jewish Tribune of New York, on October 28, 1927, stated; "Masonry is based on Judaism. Eliminate the teachings of Judaism from the Masonic Ritual and what is left?" The well known rabbi, Isaac Wise, was emphatic when he concluded: "Freemasonry is a Jewish establishment, whose history, grades, official appointments, passwords, and explanations are Jewish from beginning to end."The idolatrous image of the double-headed eagle—shown here on the cover of Albert Pike's classic text, Morals and Dogma—is a much-treasured symbol of Jewish Masons. It represents the Babylonian god of money and forces, Mammon-Ra, as well as the Hegelian dialectical process practiced by the Jewish elite. This same symbol is the "Masonic Jewel" awarded high-level Masons initiated into the 33rd degree. In the classic treatise of the Masons, Morals and Dogma, authored by the late Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite, Albert Pike, we discover the revelation that the Jewish cabala is the very basis of Masonic practice and ritual and that the cabalistic "Theology of the Sephiroth" is at the root of all Masonic knowledge. This, admits Pike, is "high magic," the "Sacerdotal Art," and the "Royal Art." The Jewish cabalistic nature
of Masonry is demonstrated by the Lodge's odd view of evil. Pike writes: "The true name of Satan, the Kabalists say, is that of Yahweh reversed; for Satan is not a black god, but the negation of God...For the Initiates, this is not a Person, but a Force, created for good, but which may serve for evil. It is the instrument of Liberty and Free Will." As for Lucifer, the alternate name for the Devil, the former Sovereign Grand Commander frankly admits that he, Lucifer, is a good angel, and a divine god worthy of our esteemed worship. "Doubt it not!," Pike commands. Intimating that the antichrist, the one whom the Bible warns shall have the unholy, combined triple number 666, is the one whom the Masons (Jews) await and shall recognize as their Messiah, Pike cryptically refers to the "Triple Secret of the Great Work." Of course, he adds, "Masonry...conceals its secrets from all except the Adepts and
Sages, and uses false explanations and misinterpretations of its symbols to mislead." Having studied the dark recesses of occultism and satanism for nearly two decades and having produced and authored dozens of books and videos on this foul subject, I can assure you that Masonry, which, as Pike, Wise, and others assure us, is nothing more than pure Jewish cabalism, is rife with sorcery and witchcraft. It is of great interest that in the book of Revelation, chapter 18, verse 23, we are told that the bloody and wicked, last days "Great City," Mystery Babylon (Jerusalem!—see Revelation 11:8), shall constitute a vast Empire of Evil that is to compass the whole earth. Its octopus-like tentacles spread via its control of money, banking, and commerce. Its rich men are secretly also sorcerers who merchandise both products and the souls of men: "...for your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries were all the
nations deceived." When we survey the traditions of

More than 450 Palestinian villages were destroyed and around 900,000 Palestinians driven from their homes, beginning a process of ethnic cleansing that continues to this day. We will be protesting a settler-recruitment drive by Nefesh B’Nefesh, a Zionist settlement organization that recruits Canadiansand facilitates their settlement in Palestine. These colonialist
activities should not be taking place in Canada and have no place in the 21st century! While Zionist colonization continues, Palestinian refugees violently expelled in 1948 and 1967 are refused their internationally recognised Right of Return by the Israeli apartheid regime!Nefesh B’Nefesh was founded with the purpose of recruiting North Americans for settlement activities in Palestine. In 2002 Nefesh B’Nefesh sponsored the largest simultaneous 'aliyah' (Hebrew for 'ascent' to the 'promised land') of settlers from North America to Israel. Incentives are being offered to Zionists to relocate to occupied arreas of Jerusalem and settlements deep in the West Bank, like Maaleh Adumim. Despite this a growing number of citizens of Jewish faith and/or cultural background are objecting to Zionist political pressure, refusing to be recruited to participate in the colonial occupation of Palestinian land. The false concept of 'aliyah' is one of the many
tools used to persuade North Americans and other citizens that they have a homeland in someone else’s land! Zionist heretics worked relentlessly throughout the years to uproot the Jewish People from their religious faith, and even to bring about untold physical suffering through the prohibited provocations against the nations. The Zionists have been the ones who have enflamed the fire of hostility against the Jewish People inways to numerous to enumerate. It is for this reason that many great rabbis called on faithful Jews to fast on the Zionist Independence Day, and to beseech G-d Alm-ghty to have mercy and peacefully eliminate the wicked Zionist regime. The late Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum of Satmar (1890-1979) wrote that in previous generations great rabbis would have declared an obligatory worldwide fast day for such a dark day as the Zionist Independence Day, the basis of which is every sin in the world, especially bloodshed and promiscuity. He even said that such rabbis of the greater previous generations would have declared hundreds of days of fasting
such as the Ninth of the Month of Av (commemorating the destruction of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem). He also stated that G-d rejects the religious holiday observances of anyone observing the Zionist holiday. Malaysia Proposes Int'l Islamic Journalism
Center

"There is no denying that there is an
agenda to belittle Islam and Muslims among certain quarters in the West,
  using the media," Zainuddin said.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3, 2006 (IslamOnline.net News Agencies) –
Muslim heavyweight Malaysia has proposed setting up an international Islamic
journalism center to counter mounting Islamophobia and coach non-Muslim
journalists about Islam and Muslims, reported the official Bernama news
agency.
"This center can be set up along the lines of several international
journalism institutes that are already in existence, offering training and
fellowship programs," Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin said on Tuesday, May
2.
He told a workshop for Arab journalists that the proposed center
would provide a meeting point for Muslim journalists to discuss common
issues.
The International Islamic Journalism Center would offer training
courses and fellowship for Muslim journalists, he added.
The minister said it would also organize workshops to discuss
issues concerning Islam and the Muslim world.
Media representatives from 15 Arabic-speaking countries are
attending a five-day workshop organized by Bernama and UNESCO in tandem
with the Malaysian Information Ministry.
Antidote
The center would also coach non-Muslim journalists about the tenets
of Islam to counter the rising Islamophobia in the West, Zainuddin
said.
"We don't want to fight with the west (by setting up this center),
we only want to inform (the international community) about the real situation in
the Islamic world," he added.
"This center will organize journalism courses like other journalism
institutes in the west. We don't want it to be regarded as a center to spread
Islam."
The minister blamed certain parties in the West for fueling the
anti-Muslim campaigns.
"There is no denying that there is an agenda to belittle Islam and
Muslims among certain quarters in the West, using the media," he
said.
"Various tactics, including deception, are used in the onslaught
against Muslims to work up their emotions because these people know full well
that Muslims would respond in full agitation when their religion is
attacked."
US academic Stephen Schwartz on August 31 criticized the western
media for failing to meet the challenge of reporting on Islam after the 9/11
attacks.
Arnold Hottinger, a prominent Swiss expert, had also said that the
West misjudged Islam and did it injustice, largely because of shallow knowledge
of the Muslim faith driven from the distorted writings of early
Orientalists.
Muslim Example
The information minister said Malaysia was willing to partially
fund the center.
"If the center is established here, we hope to show the world the
example of a developed Islamic nation, Muslims who are Hadhari and able to live
with people of other faiths."
Islam Hadhari is the brainchild of Malaysian Prime Minister
Abdullah Badawi, who maintains it is derived from the core principles and
teachings of Islam.
He believes the concept has the capacity to generate strength for a
nation because it gives emphasis to various matters including knowledge,
economy, culture, moral values and defense.
Zainuddin called for activating the Jeddah-based International
Islamic News Agency (IINA).
He also urged Muslim countries to benefit from all media outlets to
promote a tolerant and peaceful image of Islam.
"We should make full use of our media organizations to expound our
views and opinions about our culture, our society and above all, our religion,
so that others may know what Islam is really all about."
Changing Perceptions
Media practitioners from Arab countries welcomed the proposal,
hoping it would help change the perception of the world toward
Muslims.
"Through the center, we can give the true perspective on the
peace-loving Islamic world to non-Muslim journalists that will participate in
its program," said Qatari News Agency executive director Abdullah A. Rahman
Al-Muzaffar.
He regretted that presently "there are many misconceptions about
the ummah, and Islamic world was often linked to terrorism."
Abdullah suggested the center to be initiated by the Organization
of Islamic Conference (OIC).
He said with the OIC's involvement, the center could play its role
more effectively because it would be supported by all Muslim
countries.
