*How MI5 blackmails British Muslims*
*'Work for us or we will say you are a terrorist'*

By Robert Verkaik, Law Editor
The Independent Thursday, 21 May 2009

Five Muslim community workers have accused MI5 of waging a campaign of
blackmail and harassment in an attempt to recruit them as informants.

The men claim they were given a choice of working for the Security Service
or face detention and harassment in the UK and overseas.

They have made official complaints to the police, to the body which oversees
the work of the Security Service and to their local MP Frank Dobson. Now
they have decided to speak publicly about their experiences in the hope that
publicity will stop similar tactics being used in the future.

Intelligence gathered by informers is crucial to stopping further terror
outrages, but the men's allegations raise concerns about the coercion of
young Muslim men by the Security Service and the damage this does to the
gathering of information in the future.

Three of the men say they were detained at foreign airports on the orders of
MI5 after leaving Britain on family holidays last year.

After they were sent back to the UK, they were interviewed by MI5 officers
who, they say, falsely accused them of links to Islamic extremism. On each
occasion the agents said they would lift the travel restrictions and threat
of detention in return for their co-operation. When the men refused some of
them received what they say were intimidating phone calls and threats.
Two other Muslim men say they were approached by MI5 at their homes after
police officers posed as postmen. Each of the five men, aged between 19 and
25, was warned that if he did not help the security services he would be
considered a terror suspect. A sixth man was held by MI5 for three hours
after returning from his honeymoon in Saudi Arabia. He too claims he was
threatened with travel restrictions if he tried to leave the UK.

An agent who gave her name as Katherine is alleged to have made direct
threats to Adydarus Elmi, a 25-year-old cinema worker from north London. In
one telephone call she rang him at 7am to congratulate him on the birth of
his baby girl. His wife was still seven months' pregnant and the couple had
expressly told the hospital that they did not want to know the sex of their
child.
Mr Elmi further alleges: Katherine tried to threaten me by saying, and it
still runs through my mind now: 'Remember, this won't be the last time we
ever meet.' And then during our last conversation she explained: 'If you do
not want anything to happen to your family you will co-operate.'

Madhi Hashi, a 19-year-old care worker from Camden, claims he was held for
16 hours in a cell in Djibouti airport on the orders of MI5. He alleges that
when he was returned to the UK on 9 April this year he was met by an MI5
agent who told him his terror suspect status would remain until he agreed to
work for the Security Service. He alleges that he was to be given the job of
informing on his friends by encouraging them to talk about jihad.

Mohamed Nur, 25, a community youth worker from north London, claims he was
threatened by the Security Service after an agent gained access to his home
accompanied by a police officer posing as a postman.
The MI5 agent said, 'Mohamed if you do not work for us we will tell any
foreign country you try to travel to that you are a suspected terrorist.'

Mohamed Aden, 25, a community youth worker from Camden, was also approached
by someone disguised as a postman in August last year. He alleges an agent
told him: We're going to make your travelling harder for you if you don't
co-operate.
None of the six men, who work with disadvantaged youths at the Kentish Town
Community Organisation (KTCO), has ever been arrested for terrorism or a
terrorism-related offence.

They have repeatedly complained about their treatment to the police and to
the Investigatory Powers Tribunal, which oversees the work of the Security
Services.

In a letter to Lord Justice Mummery, who heads the tribunal, Sharhabeel
Lone, the chairman of the KTCO, said: The only thing these young people
have in common is that they studied Arabic abroad and are of Somali origin.
They are not involved in any terrorist activity whatsoever, nor have they
ever been, and the security services are well aware of this.

Mr Sharhabeel added: These incidents smack of racism, Islamophobia and all
that undermines social cohesion. Threatening British citizens, harassing
them in their own country, alienating young people who have committed no
crime other than practising a particular faith and being a different colour
is a recipe for disaster.

These disgraceful incidents have undermined 10 years of hard work and
severely impacted social cohesion in Camden. Targeting young people that are
role models for all young people in our country in such a disparaging way
demonstrates a total lack of understanding of on-the-ground reality and can
only be counter-productive.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Our big day - just two days to go!

2009-03-09 Thread Aisha Abbasi
Asa and peace,

Insha'Allaah you're all well :)

In TWO days time I'm going to be taking part in a 20 mile charity walk from
West London to East London (Saturday 7th March - Southall to Green Street) on
with 12 confirmed walkers alhamdulillah!! All proceeds from the walk will
go towards Interpal.

I have at present raised around about £400 of my £1500 target with many people
still donating and making pledges. Please try and get your pledges and
donations in in the next couple of days, any amount is for the sake of Allaah,
pennies, pounds etc.

With the atrocities that have been committed against the Palestinians many of
the basic amenities which we take for granted, such as shelter, water,
electricity, flour, milk, food and medicine and even paper has been stripped
from them.

Interpal (www.interpal.info) is an amazing charity! They help to raise aid and
funds specifically for those people in need and are specifically involved with
taking over food packages as well as raising funds to help Palestinians rebuild
their lives.

Our walk is with the aim of raising at least £4000 amongst us through our
friends and families, and some of us have our own personal targets. Again this
is all in the way of Allaah swt, anything more than this figure would be
absolutely amazing :)

Please donate at: www.justgiving.com/aishaabbas1 and spread the word :)

Many thanks.

23rd February is World Chechnya Day.
A day few are aware of and yet none should forget. Read more here

World Chechnya Day is intended to commemorate the dignity and resiliance of a
people who, against all odds, refused to be erased from existence.

On 23 February 1944, Stalin ordered the deportation of the entire Chechen and
Ingush population to Central Asia. More than half of the 500,000 people who
were to be forcibly transported died in transit or in massacres committed by
Soviet troops. Those who survived the journey were left facing starvation and
disease in the harsh winters of Siberia and Central Asia.

Within days an entire people had been erased from the land of their ancestors.
Overnight Chechnya and Ingushetia were emptied of their native inhabitants, and
every reference to Chechnya was removed from official maps, records and
encyclopaedias.

In 2004, sixty years after the event, the European Parliament passed a motion
that recognised this catastrophe as Genocide.

23rd February is World Chechnya Day. It is a day that few are aware of and yet
none should forget.

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Blame Game in Gaza

2009-01-11 Thread Aisha Abbasi

Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2009 16:25:13 -0500From: f...@fair.orgto:
aishaabb...@hotmail.comsubject: The Blame Game in Gaza

http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=3667
Media AdvisoryThe Blame Game in GazaErasing Israeli actions to fault only
Hamas1/6/09The Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip that began in late December
have reportedly killed over 500 Palestinians, many of them civilians and
children. As is often the case, U.S. corporate media's presentation of the
events leading up to this dramatic escalation in violence have laid the blame
for the violence mostly with Hamas, whose rocket attacks on Israel are often
cited as the cause for the current Israeli attacks. In many media discussions
about the events that led to the fighting, emphasis is placed on Hamas'
decision in late December to allow a cease-fire agreement with Israel to
expire, or the group's failure to adequately suppress rocket attacks into
Israel during the cease-fire.A USA Today timeline (1/5/09) explained, In
November, the truce frays as Hamas rockets continue to land in Israel, which
closes several border crossings and kills militants building tunnels Hamas was
using to smuggle weapons and other goods into Gaza. On NBC Nightly News
(12/27/08), Martin Fletcher explained that a six-month truce ended this week
and Palestinians fired rockets into Israel, as many as 60 a day. Israeli
leaders said enough is enough.A Washington Post editorial (12/28/08) announced
that Hamas invited the conflict by ending a six-month-old ceasefire, while
Post columnist Richard Cohen (1/6/09) was much blunter: It took no genius to
see the imminence of war. It takes real stupidity to blame it on Israel. The
Dallas Morning News (12/30/08) agreed emphatically in an editorial titled,
Blood on Hamas' Hands: The pictures of the civilian victims of Israeli
airstrikes-- especially children-- are heart-rending. But let's keep straight
whose fault this tragedy is: Hamas, the fanatical Islamists who rule Gaza and
who have used the land as a launching pad for firing rockets into Israel. The
New York Times' December 28 lead declared, The Israeli Air Force on Saturday
launched a massive attack on Hamas targets throughout Gaza in retaliation for
the recent heavy rocket fire from the area. The next day, Times reporter
Stephen Farrell asked (12/29/08), Why did Hamas end its six-month cease-fire
on December 19? He argued that the rejectionist credo of Hamas made this
step all but inevitable. These accounts fail on several grounds. For starters,
the cease-fire agreement from June through mid-December was credited by many
for ratcheting down the violence-- rocket fire into Israel dropped
significantly and claimed no Israeli lives during the truce. (Prior to that,
rocket and mortar attacks since the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in late 2005
had killed 10 Israelis-- theisraelproject.org.) After the cease-fire expired,
rocket attacks increased, though no Israelis were killed until after the
Israeli attacks were launched; four have been killed since then (Agence
France-Presse, 1/6/09).Interestingly, as the truce expired, the New York Times
published an article (12/19/08) that began with a typical corporate media
formulation-- Palestinians are attacking, Israel is retaliating-- before noting
that Hamas was largely successful in curtailing rocket fire into Israel:
Hamas imposed its will and even imprisoned some of those who were firing
rockets. Israeli and United Nations figures show that while more than 300
rockets were fired into Israel in May, 10 to 20 were fired in July, depending
on who was counting and whether mortar rounds were included. In August, 10 to
30 were fired, and in September, 5 to 10.The Times article, by Ethan Bronner,
noted that what Hamas expected in return from the Israelis never arrived:
But the goods shipments, while up some 25 to 30 percent and including a mix of
more items, never began to approach what Hamas thought it was going to get: a
return to the 500 to 600 truckloads delivered daily before the closing,
including appliances, construction materials and other goods essential for life
beyond mere survival. Instead, the number of trucks increased to around 90 from
around 70.
Bronner also added that Israeli forces continued to attack Hamas and other
militants in the West Bank, prompting Palestinian militants in Gaza to fire
rockets, which produced Hamas response attacks. The Times continued:
While this back-and-forth did not topple the agreement, Israel's decision in
early November to destroy a tunnel Hamas had been digging near the border drove
the cycle of violence to a much higher level. Israel says the tunnel could have
been dug only for the purpose of trying to seize a soldier, like Cpl. Gilad
Shalit, the Israeli held by Hamas for the past two and a half years. Israel's
attack on the tunnel killed six Hamas militants, and each side has stepped up
attacks since.

Bismillah [IslamCity] We have no words left - Ali Abunimah - The Guardian

2009-01-03 Thread Aisha Abbasi
We have no words left
Ali Abunimah, Electonic Intifada

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/dec/29/israel-gaza-attack-palestinian-reaction

I will play music and celebrate what the Israeli air force is doing. Those
chilling words were spoken on al-Jazeera on Saturday by Ofer Shmerling, an
Israeli civil defence official in the Sderot area adjacent to the Gaza Strip.
For days Israeli planes have bombed Gaza. Almost 300 Palestinians have been
killed and a thousand injured, the majority civilians, including women and
children. Israel claims most of the dead were Hamas terrorists. In fact, the
targets were police stations in dense residential areas, and the dead included
many police officers and other civilians. Under international law, police
officers are civilians, and targeting them is no less a war crime than aiming
at other civilians.

Palestinians are at a loss to describe this new catastrophe. Is it our 9/11, or
is it a taste of the bigger shoah Matan Vilnai, the deputy defence minister,
threatened in February, after the last round of mass killings?

Israel says it is acting in retaliation for rockets fired with increasing
intensity ever since a six-month truce expired on 19 December. But the bombs
dropped on Gaza are only a variation in Israel's method of killing
Palestinians. In recent months they died mostly silent deaths, the elderly and
sick especially, deprived of food, cancer treatments and other medicines by an
Israeli blockade that targeted 1.5 million people - mostly refugees and
children - caged into the Gaza Strip. The orders of Ehud Barak, the Israeli
defence minister, to hold back medicine were just as lethal and illegal as
those to send in the warplanes.

Ehud Olmert, Israel's prime minister, pleaded that Israel wanted quiet - a
continuation of the truce - while Hamas chose terror, forcing him to act. But
what is Israel's idea of a truce? It is very simple: Palestinians have the
right to remain silent while Israel starves them, kills them and continues to
violently colonise their land.
As John Ging, the head of operations for the United Nations Relief and Works
Agency for Palestine Refugees, said in November: The people of Gaza did not
benefit; they did not have any restoration of a dignified existence ... at the
UN, our supplies were also restricted during the period of the ceasefire, to
the point where we were left in a very vulnerable and precarious position and
with a few days of closure we ran out of food.

That is an Israeli truce. Any act of resistance including the peaceful protests
against the apartheid wall in the West Bank is always met by Israeli bullets
and bombs. There are no rockets launched at Israel from the West Bank, and yet
Israel's extrajudicial killings, land theft, settler pogroms and kidnappings
never stopped for a day during the truce. The western-backed Palestinian
Authority of Mahmoud Abbas has acceded to all Israel's demands. Under the proud
eye of United States military advisors, Abbas has assembled security forces
to fight the resistance on Israel's behalf. None of that has spared a single
Palestinian in the West Bank from Israel's relentless colonisation.

The Israeli media report that the attack on Gaza was long planned. If so, the
timing in the final days of the Bush administration may indicate an Israeli
effort to take advantage of a moment when there might be even less criticism
than usual.

Israel is no doubt emboldened by the complicity of the European Union, which
this month voted again to upgrade its ties with Israel despite condemnation
from its own officials and those of the UN for the collective punishment
being visited on Gaza. Tacit Arab regime support, and the fact that predicted
uprisings in the Arab street never materialised, were also factors.

But there is a qualitative shift with the latest horror: as much as Arab anger
has been directed at Israel, it has also focused intensely on Arab regimes -
especially Egypt's - seen as colluding with the Israeli attack. Contempt for
these regimes and their leaders is being expressed more openly than ever. Yet
these are the illegitimate regimes western politicians continue to insist are
their moderate allies.

Diplomatic fronts, such as the US-dominated Quartet, continue to treat occupier
and occupied, coloniser and colonised, first-world high-tech army and
near-starving refugee population, as if they are on the same footing. Hope is
fading that the incoming administration of Barack Obama is going to make any
fundamental change to US policies that are hopelessly biased towards Israel.

In Europe and the Middle East, the gap between leaders and led could not be
greater when it comes to Israel. Official complicity and support for Israel
contrast with popular outrage at war crimes carried out against occupied people
and refugees with impunity.
With governments and international institutions failing to do their jobs, the

PRESS RELEASE

IBB closes INTERPAL Account

URGENT ACTION NEEDED

The British charity Interpal, dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the
Palestinians, has been notified by their bank, the Islamic Bank of Britain,
that Lloyds TSB (their clearing bank) has given them the instruction to cease
all dealings with Interpal with effect from 8 December 2008.

After this time “all transactions into or out of Interpal accounts will be
blocked and IBB will be at further risk of all its customer payments being
suspended.” We have been informed IBB has offered Interpal verbal support but
is apparently powerless in this situation, throwing into question the autonomy
of IBB. Lloyds TSB is calling for IBB to stop the Interpal account without any
legal reason. No reason is given by IBB or Lloyds for the draconian and
punitive measure taken.

By acting in this way, Lloyds TSB has treated Interpal with contempt and
jeopardised the efforts to help millions of homeless and poverty stricken
Palestinians. Their action sends a signal to other Muslim charities, supporters
of justice in Palestine – as well as the IBB’s 50,000 Muslim account holders –
that their accounts can be closed down without warning or explanation at any
time. We are calling upon our friends and supporters, and all who stand for
justice in the face of oppression to contact Lloyds TSB and the Islamic Bank of
Britain to ask them to rescind this outrageous, unfair and arbitrary decision.

1] Contact Lloyds TSB asking them to cancel their demand on IBB to close
Interpal’s account.

2] Contact IBB and ask them not to succumb to the pressures placed by Lloyds
TSB.

NOTE - INTERPAL has never been tried of any wrongful act or found guilty of any

Bismillah [IslamCity] Boycott Israeli Dates campaign!

2008-09-11 Thread Aisha Abbasi

BOYCOTT ISRAELI DATES CAMPAIGN
a.k.a. BID CAMPAIGN

This Ramadan there is no excuse for any Muslim in the world to open
their fast with an Israeli date. Innovative Minds and the Islamic
Human Rights Commission are calling on campaigners to create more
awareness in their communities about the boycott of Israeli goods,
and in particular, Israeli dates, this Ramadan.

In order to educate our communities on this issue two videos and a
leaflet have been produced. Zaynab's Story explores the connection
between an ordinary person living in Britain and what is happening
in Palestine ñ how our actions as consumers in this country affects
what happens to the Palestinians. It's a heart wrenching video that
exposes the brutality of the occupation as it touches the lives of
ordinary people in Palestine. It then traces exactly how our buying
habits help sustain this occupation, and ends by exploring ways in
which we can start supporting Palestinians. The boycott of Israeli
dates forms its central theme. Its premier both in this country
and overseas has been very well received. Its duration is around
36 minutes and it is available both as a DVD or as a downloadable
AVI for screening in a mosque, community centre or student society,
as well as a streaming video on Youtube for personal viewing.

Please help us reach the widest possible audience by making copies
of the videos and DVDs and passing them on to friends. Also place
them on your websites, etc.

Bismillah [IslamCity] 10 Goals for Ramadhan

2008-07-19 Thread Aisha Abbasi
10 Goals for Ramadhan

1. Eat, drink and be moderateAlmost all of us do it - once Iftar time hits, we
just keep plowing food and drink into our mouths till it's hard to move
afterwards. And those of us who do it know this is totally contrary to the
spirit of Ramadan, through which we're supposed to learn self-control not
self-indulgence. Let's try to stick to the Prophetic rule on eating: fill our
stomachs with one-third food, one-third water and one-third breathing space,
even in Ramadan.2. Give a pound a day in charity...or five or tenThe Prophet
Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was always generous but even more so
in Ramadan. Let's open our hearts and dig a little deeper in our wallets this
year. Even less than a dollar a day adds up. Whatever you can give, it's the
intention that counts.3. Memorize 4 new SurahsMemorizing the Quran often seems
like a daunting task. But the key is doing it in small bites. Since there are
four weeks in Ramadan, try to memorize one new Surah a week. Start off with a
short, easy one. Once you've started, you'll build momentum and may even want
to memorize a longer one the following week.4. Go to Tarawih prayersPost-Iftar,
the first urge is to sleep after an exhausting day. But try your best to head
out to the mosque for Tarawih prayers. Praying alone is wonderful, but doing it
in congregation is fantastic. The community spirit is part of Ramadan's
blessings. Don't miss it this year. If going every day is not possible, try
going at least one week.5. Attend the Tarawih prayer in which the recitation of
the Quran will be finishedCall the local mosque and find out which day the Imam
will be finishing the recitation of the Quran in prayer. Attend to not only
hear part of the Quran's recitation in prayer, but also participate in the
heart-rending Duas that follow it.6. Stop swearing and/or backbiting – with a
special boxIt's hard not to shoot our mouths off when someone's upset us.
Whether we utter those four-letter words or backbite about someone to our
family and friends, we know this isn't the God-approved way of letting off
steam. In Ramadan, when we want to build our spirituality, we've got to wage
Jihad against our bad habits.Try this: get a box and every time you catch
yourself swearing or backbiting put some money in it. It could be a buck or
less. The point is to choose an amount that makes it feel like punishment. At
the end of the month send the money to a charity or buy a gift for the person
whom you've backbitten the most against.7. Call/email your relativesYou'd think
that given the easy access to email, competitive long-distance calling rates,
phone cards, etc. these days, we'd keep in touch with family and friends more
often. But the opposite seems to be the case, as we get caught up in life's
busyness.Strengthening ties with family members and keeping in touch with
friends is part of our way of life and an act Allah is very pleased with. This
Ramadan, call family and friends or at least email them a Ramadan card and ask
them how their fasting is going.8. Go on a technology dietEven if you work in
the IT industry, you can do this. Avoid checking personal email and surfing the
web during your fast. After Iftar, instead of plopping yourself in front of the
screen, go to Tarawih. The same goes for the television. The point is to try to
give our full attention to spiritual elevation this month.9. Read 5 minutes of
Quran a day...and reflect insha'AllaahEven if you feel you've got absolutely no
time, set a timer or the alarm on your cell phone and find a relatively quiet
place. You can read the first page of the Quran you open or follow a sequence.
The choice is yours. The point is simply to connect with God through His
revelation in the month of the Quran.10. Forgive everyone who has hurt youStill
got a festering wound from the fight with your friend last year? Still upset
about something your spouse said during a heated argument? Or are you still
bitter about the way your parents sometimes treated you as a kid? Let go of the
anger and pain this Ramadan and forgive those who have hurt you. Forgiving
someone is not only good for the body, but it's also great for the soul. And in
Ramadan, ten days of which are devoted to Allah's forgiveness, shouldn't we
lesser beings forgive too?If you find it very difficult to forgive everyone,
forgive at least three people.

Muslim woman deemed too submissive to be FrenchBy Estelle
Shirbonhttp://uk.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUKL1173478020080711?sp=truePARIS
(Reuters) - France has denied citizenship to a veiled Moroccan woman on the
grounds that her radical practice of Islam is incompatible with basic French
values such as equality of the sexes, a legal ruling showed on Friday. The case
will reignite debate about how to reconcile freedom of religion, which is
guaranteed by the French constitution, and other fundamental rights, which
many in France feel are being challenged by the way of life of some Muslims.Le
Monde newspaper said it was the first time a Muslim applicant had been
rejected for reasons to do with personal religious practice. She has adopted a
radical practice of her religion, incompatible with essential values of the
French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes, said a
ruling by the Council of State handed down last month and sent to Reuters on
Friday to confirm a report in Le Monde. The Council of State is a judicial body
which has final say on disputes between individuals and the public
administration.Married to a French national, the woman arrived in France in
2000, speaks good French and has three children born in France. She wears a
black burqa that covers all her body except her eyes, which are visible
through a narrow slit, and lives in total submission to her husband and male
relatives, according to reports by social services. Le Monde said the woman is
32.The woman's application for French nationality was rejected in 2005 on
grounds of insufficient assimilation. She appealed to the Council of State,
which last month approved the rejection. In the past, nationality was denied to
Muslims who were known to have links with extremist circles or who had
publicly advocated radicalism, which is not the case here.VIRGINITY ROWThe
ruling comes weeks after a heated debate over whether traditional Muslim views
were creeping into French law, prompted by a court annulment of the marriage
of two Muslims because the husband said the wife was not a virgin as she had
claimed to be.In the case of the Moroccan woman, Le Monde suggested the Council
of State had gone to the opposite extreme by rejecting the woman's beliefs
and way of life rather than accommodating them.Is a burqa incompatible with
French nationality? the newspaper asked. The legal expert who provided a
formal report on the case to the Council of State wrote that the woman's
interviews with social services revealed that she lives almost as a recluse,
isolated from French society, Le Monde reported. She has no idea about the
secular state or the right to vote. She lives in total submission to her male
relatives. She seems to find this normal and the idea of challenging it has
never crossed her mind, Emmanuelle Prada-Bordenave wrote.Le Monde quoted
Daniele Lochak, a law professor not involved in the case, as saying it was
bizarre to consider that excessive submission to men was a reason not to grant
citizenship. If you follow that to its logical conclusion, it means that women
whose partners beat them are also not worthy of being French, Lochak said.

A Muslim member of the French government has backed a court's decision to deny
citizenship to a Moroccan woman who wears the burqa.Ms Amara, who is a
French-born Muslim of Algerian parentage, said she supported the ruling in June
by France's highest administrative court, the Conseil d'Etat. The burqa is a
prison, it's a straightjacket, she told Le Parisien. It is not a religious
insignia but the insignia of a totalitarian political project that advocates
inequality between the sexes and which is totally devoid of democracy. Ms

I leave you all with a small reminder firstly for myself and everyone:

At the core of Islamic message is empathy and compassion towards those who are
less fortunate. The early Qur'anic revelations repeatedly stress the vital link
between religion and acts of compassion. They even go as far as denying faith
to those who are deprived of compassion towards the poor and the destitute:Have
you seen the one who denies the Religion? Such is he who repulses the orphan,
and who does not urge others to feed the poor. Woe to worshippers, who are
absent-minded to their prayer, those who make a show (of piety), and refuse to
render small acts of kindness (towards others). (Al-Ma`un 107: 1-7).

Asalaams wr wb I hope all is well with you and the family. I am mailing all
my contacts to ask for sponsorship towards an Islamic charity (Ebrahim College)
and whether you could forward this to any friends family that would be
interested in helping the cause, inshallah. My aim is to trek the peak of
Mount Sinai, Egypt (2,285 meters above sea level), where Prophet (as) Musa
(Moses) spoke to Allah. It’s going to be a tough and grueling challenge, with
the trek taking around 6 hours in the searing heat of the Egyptian summer, to
reach the peak of the mountain. Yes I know, I’m nuts! But it is all for a good
cause. I work as a Head of a Sixth-Form in a challenging inner London school,
and I thought it was very important for me to support an Islamic Sixth-Form
College that is desperately trying to raise funds to educate our future ummah
and ‘leaders for tomorrow’. I have worked in Education for the past 6-7 years
in tough London schools and I see Islamic schools and colleges as part of the
solution to tackle decades of nationwide underachievement of Muslim students.
Your donations will benefit Ebrahim College (London) and will become a form of

Bismillah [IslamCity] Israel 'has 150 nuclear weapons'

2008-05-29 Thread Aisha Abbasi

www.aqsa.org.uk

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Israel 'has 150 nuclear weapons'
Date: Mon, 26 May 2008 14:12:47 -0500

Israel 'has 150 nuclear weapons'
Ex-US President Jimmy Carter has said Israel has at least 150 atomic weapons in
its arsenal.
The Israelis have never confirmed they have nuclear weapons, but this has been
widely assumed since a scientist leaked details in the 1980s.
Mr Carter made his comments on Israel's weapons at a press conference at the
annual literary Hay Festival in Wales.
He also described Israeli treatment of Palestinians as one of the greatest
human rights crimes on earth.
Mr Carter gave the figure for the Israeli nuclear arsenal in response to a
question on US policy on a possible nuclear-armed Iran, arguing that any
country newly armed with atomic weapons faced overwhelming odds.
The US has more than 12,000 nuclear weapons; the Soviet Union (sic) has about
the same; Great Britain and France have several hundred, and Israel has 150 or
more, he said.

Israel's Dimona reactor is understood to provide plutonium for the country's
nuclear weapons
We have a phalanx of enormous capabilities, not only of weaponry but also of
rockets to deliver every one of those missiles on a pinpoint accuracy target.
Most experts estimate that Israel has between 100 and 200 nuclear warheads,
largely based on information leaked to the Sunday Times newspaper in the 1980s
by Mordechai Vanunu, a former worker at the country's Dimona nuclear reactor.
The US, a key ally of Israel, has in general followed the country's policy of
nuclear ambiguity, neither confirming or denying the existence of its assumed
arsenal.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert included Israel among a list of
nuclear states in comments in December 2006, a week after US Defence Secretary
Robert Gates used a similar form of words during a Senate hearing.
'Imprisonment'
During the press briefing, Mr Carter expressed his support for Israel as a
country, but criticised its domestic and foreign policy.
One of the greatest human rights crimes on earth is the starvation and
imprisonment of 1.6m Palestinians, he said.
The former US president cited statistics which he said showed the nutritional
intake of some Palestinian children was below that of children in Sub-Saharan
Africa, as well as saying the European position on Israel could be best
described as supine.
Mr Carter, awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, brokered the 1979 Egypt-Israel
peace treaty, the first between Israel and an Arab state.
In April he controversially held talks in the Syrian capital Damascus with
Khaled Meshaal, leader of the militant Palestinian movement Hamas.
The former US president's Carter Center was unavailable for further comment.

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, it is now 60 years since Israel was founded and over
750,000 Palestinians were forced from their homes. Unfortunately, most
Americans are completely uninformed about this massive act of ethnic cleansing
and the continuing injustice against these Palestinian refugees and their
descendants.

We have created a one-page trifold brochure to explain this expulsion as
clearly as possible to Americans. Please download it, print it out, and
distribute it to as many people in your community as possible.

In addition, you may wish to disseminate it during vigils and other Nakba

Below is the text on the flyer:

Ethnic Cleansing: How Palestine Became Israel

In the late 1800s a small, fanatic movement called political Zionism began in
Europe. Its goal was to create a Jewish state somewhere in the world. Its
leaders settled on the ancient and long-inhabited land of Palestine for the
location of this state.1

Palestine's population at this time was approximately ninety-five percent
non-Jewish (primarily Muslim an d Christian).2

Over the coming decades Zionist leaders used various strategies to accomplish
their goal of taking over Palestine:

1.By encouraging Jewish emigration to Palestine, partly through the
invention of such deceptive slogans as a land without a people for a people
without a land, when, in fact, the land was already inhabited.3

2.By convincing a Great Power to back this process. By turn, Zionists
approached the Ottomans, the British, and the US to further their cause. While
the Ottomans turned them down, the British (being promised that American
Zionists would push the U.S. to enter World War I on the side of England)
eventually acceded, as did the U.S. (due to concerns of politicians like Harry
Truman that they would lose elections otherwise).4

3.By buying up the land (sometimes through subterfuges), proclaiming it
Jewish for all eternity, and refusing to allow non-Jews to live or work on the
purchased land. This was called redeeming the land and was financed by a
variety of means, including by such wealthy banking families as the
Rothschilds.5

4.By violence, if such financial dispossession should fail or prove too
slow – as it did.6

In the 1930s, Jewish land ownership had increased from approximately 1% to just
over 6% of the land, and violence had increased as well. With the emergence of
several Zionist terrorist gangs (whose ranks included a number of future Prime
Ministers of Israel), there was violent conflict. Numerous people of all
ethnicities were killed – then, as now, the large majority of them Christian
and Muslim Palestinians.7

The Catastrophe

This growing violence culminated in Israel's ruthless 1947-49 War of
Independence, in which at least 750,000 Palestinian men, women, and children
were expelled from their homes – half of them even before any Arab armies
joined the war. At every point in this war, Zionist forces greatly outnumbered
Arab forces. This massive humanitarian disaster is known among Palestinians and
others as 'The Catastrophe,' al Nakba in Arabic.8

Between December 1947 and December 1950, Zionist forces committed at least 33
massacres9 and destroyed over 531 Palestinian villages and towns. Author Norman
Finkelstein states: According to the former director of the Israeli army
archives, 'in almost every village occupied by us during the War of
Independence, acts were committed which are defined as war crimes, such as
murders, massacres, and rapes'...Uri Milstein, the authoritative Israeli
military historian of the 1948 war, goes one step further, maintaining that
'every skirmish ended in a massacre of Arabs.'10

Count Folke Bernadotte, a former vice chairman of the Swedish Red Cross who
saved thousands of Jews during World War II and was appointed U.N. mediator in
Palestine in 1948, said of the Palestinian refugees: It would be an offence
against the principles of elemental justice if these innocent victims of the
conflict were denied the right to return to their homes.11

Injustice Continues

Over the 60 years since Israel's founding on May 14, 1948, this profound
injustice has continued. Palestinian refugees are the largest remaining refugee
population in the world. Seven million of the ten million living Palestinians
are refugees or displaced people. 1.3 million Palestinians live in Israel as
Israeli citizens. Despite their status as citizens, they are subject to
systematic discrimination. Many are prohibited from living in the villages and
homes from

Australia: Debate Rages with Daniel Pipes over Islam Democracy

| IslamToday / Agencies|

15 April 2008

The first of the series of Intelligence2 debates - Islam Is Incompatible With
Democracy - was held at at City Recital Hall, Angel Place, in Sydney Australia
at 6.45pm.

The IQ2 debate series is a partnership between the St James Ethics Centre, The
Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Broadcasting (ABC) and the City of Sydney. It
is a new forum that aims to elevate the public discourse in Sydney and
transcend the toxically emotional and the reflexively ideological.

Simon Longstaff from the St James Ethics Centre said that topics and speakers
were chosen to promote sharp perspectives but in a format that promotes
engagement in a reasonable and respectful way.

It has chosen to put its credo to the test for its inaugural debate, which was
attended by a packed audience of 1200, and telecast live. A panel of experts on
politics and Islam opened the debate series by ripping into the
emotionally-charged proposition that Islam is incompatible with democracy. It
was an Oxford-style debate, which included three participants arguing the
affirmative and three the negative, followed by questions from the audience,
who were polled before and after the event to determine who won.

The security guards and flyer-wielding campaigners at the doors gave some
indication of the fraught nature of the subject matter from the outset. And
those on stage did not disappoint, taking the discussion from the soaring
heights of Islam's philosophical antecedents to the cold, hard reality of
suppression under Sharia law.

Having told another Sydney audience earlier this week that Islam would dominate
Europe, the director of the Middle East Forum, Daniel Pipes, immediately
provided a cutting criticism of the world's second largest religion.

Islam is undemocratic in spirit, he said. It takes a lot of learning to have
freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of association. These are
things that are learnt over a period of time and it is that which the West has
achieved and which Islam is a long way from learning.

Yes, there are Muslim states which are democratic in form, but true democracy
is yet to take root. The great obstacle to this change is the fact that in the
Middle East the social system is fundamentally tribal and that obstructs the
development of the key requisites of democracy.

The rebuttal from the Pakistan-born director of the University of Western
Australia's Centre for Muslim States and Societies, Samina Yasmeen, was a cool
cloth to Pipes's fire.

You will see what you want to see and if you want to identify Islam as
incompatible I have no doubt that you will continue seeing that, she said.

How is it, though, that Muslims in non-Muslim societies are able to get on so
well when Islam is incompatible? I would argue that Muslim majority states do
show a lot of tolerance, not only of the Muslim community, but also of the
non-Muslim community.

Amina Rasul, a human rights activist and director of the Philippine Council on
Islam and Democracy, followed the theme. What the West should not do is
criticise states which are not democratic while supporting despots who suppress
human rights because it is in their economic benefit, Rasul said.

There are 800 million Muslims living happily and successfully in democratic
nations - why is it that the extremes are always focused on?

The Herald columnist Paul Sheehan brought the question into stark relief by
comparing a trip to Mecca with a trip to Rome.

When you visit the Vatican, one thing that is for certain is that you will be
allowed in, Sheehan said. When you visit Saudi Arabia the checks at the
airport and for those travelling into Mecca are not just for security reasons,
they are to prevent non-Muslims from coming in.

Finally the statements were brought back to first principles by Waleed Aly, the
young lawyer, writer and spokesman for the Islamic Council of Victoria.

My opponents have defined terms such as Islam and Sharia law to suit their
arguments and in so doing have ignored the myriad interpretations of these
terms.

In the end, the audience had the final call and it delivered a victory to hope
- but only just. A poll conducted as the audience entered found 38 per cent for
the affirmative, 42 per cent for the negative and the remaining 20 per cent

3 ways to protect your human rights

This Tuesday proposals to extend pre-charge detention get their second reading
in Parliament.
Sadly it is no joke, on 1 April proposals are being put in front of Parliament
to extend the time people can be held without charge in the UK to 42 days - in
other words you could be locked up for six weeks without being told what you
are suspected of doing.
The good news is that there are a lot of MPs and Lords prepared to fight this -
but they need your encouragement and support. Others may be persuaded to make a
stand if their constituents (you) demand it.
So here's what you can do:
1 Write to your MP and ask them to stand up for our civil rights and oppose
this draconian extension of pre-charge detention. Simply pop your postcode into

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Importance of Manners

2008-03-21 Thread Aisha Abbasi

The Importance of Manners
Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #271, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ahmad, and Ibn
HibbanAbu Darda' reported that the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace,
said, Nothing is weightier on the Scale of Deeds than one's good
manners.Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #286 and AhmadAbu Huraira, r.a.,
said, I heard Abu al Qasim (the Prophet saaws), say, 'The best among you in
Islam are those with the best manners, so long as they develop a sense of
understanding.' Hadith - At-Tabaraanee collected it, and Albani authenticated
it in Silsilatul-AHaadeethis-Saheehah (#432).The Prophet (saaws) said: The
most beloved of Allah's servants to Allah are those with the best
manners.Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim, and Tirmidhi... 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr
said, The Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, was never obscene or coarse.
Rather, he used to tell us that the best among us were those with the best
manners.Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim and Ahmad... Anas said, I served the
Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, for ten years. During that time, he never
once said to me as much as 'Oof' if I did something wrong. He never asked me,
if I had failed to do something, 'Why did you not do it?,' and he never said to
me, if I had done something wrong, 'Why did you do it?' Hadith - Bukhari's
Book of Manners # 285, Hakim, and Abu Dawud... Abu Huraira, r.a., said that the
Prophet of Allah, saaws, said, If one has good manners, one may attain the
same level of merit as those who spend their nights in prayer.Hadith -

Bukhari's Book of Manners # 296, Muslim, Tirmidhi, Darimi, Abu 'Awanah, Hakim,
and Ibn Hibban Nawas ibn Sam'an reported that the Prophet of Allah, saaws,
was asked about doing good and evil. He replied, Doing good is having good

Israel exploits Jerusalem Attack
Friday, March 07, 2008 - FreeMarketNews.com
Israel will take advantage of Thursday's bloody terror attack in Jerusalem in
order to launch a campaign against Hamas. Yedioth Ahronoth has learned that the
political echelon instructed the Government Press Office to distribute the
shocking images from the yeshiva shooting worldwide, including pictures of holy
books perforated with bullets, a blood-stained praying shawl and the
terrorist's body inside the yeshiva. -YNet News

Seven Gazans killed in day of Israeli air and shelling attacks
Report, Al Mezan, 7 February 2008
On 7 February 2008, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed seven
Palestinians, raising the number of victims from its military attacks to
seventeen persons since the beginning of this month, and 96 persons since the
beginning of 2008 in the Gaza Strip. The IOF launched seven attacks in
different parts of the Gaza Strip since last night, of which the most affected
areas were Khan Younis, al-Nuseirat, and other areas in northern Gaza.According
to Al Mezan field investigations, this morning and yesterday evening, the IOF
launched a series of missile attacks using ground-to-ground missiles and
helicopters. The arbitrary attacks left seven Palestinians killed and ten
injured. Five of the injured were reported to have sustained serious injuries,
including two students at the Agriculture School in Beit Hanoun. At
approximately 7:30am, on 7 February 2008, the IOF launched a missile, resulting
in the killing of a teacher in the Agriculture School, 41-year-old Hani Shaaban
Naim. One other student was injured in the attack, however, not critically. All
three students injured were under the age of eighteen.IOF drones and
helicopters launched three missiles between 3:55am and 4:15am on the same day.
As a result, 23-year-old Jawdat Abdullah Nabhan, 26-year-old Muhammad Yusuf
al-Mutuak, and 22-year-old Osama Fayez Assaf were killed. Mr. Assaf's body was
found after about three hours. At approximately 3:20am the same day, the IOF
launched a missile at a group of young men while they were gathered near
al-Ja'l petrol station in eastern Beit Hanoun. As a result, 20-year-old
Abdullah Nabhan was killed and two others were injured. One of them was
reported to have sustained serious injury. At approximately 3:15am, the IOF
launched a missile at a group of young men gathered near Talet al-Rayes in Gaza
City's northeast al-Tuffah neighborhood. As a result, 25-year-old Ahmed Zakaria
Abu Hamid and 40-year-old Hamouda al-Shurafa were killed and two others were
injured. One of them was reported to have sustained serious injury.Last night,
6 February 2008, the IOF launched three attacks at different areas in Beit
Hanoun, al-Nuseirat refugee camp and the eastern area of Khan Younis. As a
result, three persons were injured, including one child and one woman. They
were reported to have sustained serious injury. The shelling also resulted in
the destruction of an agricultural store in al-Nuseirat refugee camp and caused
partial damage to a number of neighboring houses.Al Mezan Center for Human
Rights reiterates its strong condemnation of the escalating acts of murder
committed by the IOF in the Gaza Strip. These acts affect a large number of
innocent civilians, which constitutes grave violations of international
humanitarian law that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Al
Mezan warns of the consequences of the international community's unending
silence towards these crimes. As a result, the IOF is encouraged to move
forward in escalating acts of murder without any commitment to the principles
of discrimination and proportionality. The IOF must be forced to take active
measures to avoid causing harm to civilians and non-combatants, and prohibit
taking non-military steps, including collective punishment. Al Mezan Center
calls on the international community to act urgently to stop Israeli war crimes
and to provide international protection for civilians in the Palestinian
territories, as this is part of their legal and moral duty towards the civilian
population in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Gaza in crisis appeal!

2008-02-04 Thread Aisha Abbasi

http://www.interpal.org/appeals/gaza_crisis_0108.html

In the early morning of the 23rd January, over 350,000 Palestinians surged into
Egypt from the Gaza Strip after parts of the border wall were destroyed.
Hundreds of thousands of Gazans rushed over the border, some frantically
searching for loved ones, most desperate for food and fuel, which due to
blockades on Gaza’s borders are in short supply. The chaos only highlights the
extreme hardship endured by the Palestinian people. Approximately 1.5 million
people are living under conditions of siege. Most are living well below the
poverty line of US $2 dollars per day with little access to the basic
necessities such as fuel, food, electricity and medicine. Working in
partnership with Muslim Aid, Interpal is asking you to make a difference to the
lives of those isolated from the world by the conflict. We urgently need help
in raising £5 million for the people of Palestine- for food, fuel and medical
supplies. One million pounds has already been raised thanks to our emergency
relief partners. Despite the difficulties, we pledge to get supplies to those
most in need through local partners.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Gaza In Need - Urgent Appeal‏

2008-01-28 Thread Aisha Abbasi

PLEASE DONATE INSHA'ALLAAH

if you are unable to read this email please click the following link
http://www.hai.org.uk/eshots/humaneshot40.html?mid=40did=426

Dear Brothers and Sisters!

I hope and pray this email finds you in the best of health and ever increasing
Iman, insha’Allah.

Reason for this email as you can gather from the title is to raise urgent funds
for Gaza! We’re all subject to the bias media and many of us don’t put enough
effort to know what’s really going on, so the second purpose of this email is
to create awareness.

The plight of the Palestinians would have been going on for 60 years this year,
but with Human Rights law that the West hold so dear and the UN you would never
expect the situation in Gaza could get this bad.

“Israel” withdrew from the Gaza strip in the summer of 2005, but did it? With
complete control over borders, air space and sea the strip has been removed of
occupation and put under siege….the worlds biggest open air concentration camp
as has been described by some!

When the West asked for the Palestinian people to undertake free and fair
elections, you could argue that the Palestinains set a precedent for this
within the region, in the beginning of 2006. so what is the price of democracy
for these people? It is that Gaza is put under siege. It has been so for over
a year on and off and constantly for the past 7.5 months…why?... because it is
under the authority of a democratically elected government.

Gaza is the size of about 360 square km which is like the size of a single
borough of London with a population of 1.5 million and a density rate of 27000
individulas per one square km (just over half a mile) the most densly populated
place in the world! Even Jeddah airport in Saudi Arabia is bigger than Gaza
strip. 81% of the population live under the poverty line which is about a
dollar a day and 53% are unemployed! Nothing and no one can come in or out of
Gaza.government employees have not been paid their wages for months, money
is scarce therefore demand has vanished and as a result many businesses have
had to shut down. The americans will not allow banks to deal with the
government (hence there is hardly any money)and on a personal level it will not
allow a transfer of over $5000 (about £2500) at any one time. israel is also
withdrawing its currency (which is the main currency in the strip for which all
other currencies are exchanged for!)

When bush visited the Middle East recently, he said he is committed to bringing
about peace within the region, before he leaves office! He stated to scrap the
previous UN resolutions which did not work (why didn’t they work? Because the
US vetoed every single resolution) So a few days after his visit to Palestine
and Occupied Palestine the Israelis started incursions into Gaza reinforced by
air strikes…giving the green light to such barbaric behavior! This is the peace?

Conditions were previously dire and after these recent incidents, have become
even more so. In the past week around 50 people were killed and dozens injured
by Israeli attacks, the majority of them civilians (not that the killings of
the resistance is justified) 73 ill people with curable conditions died because
they have no access to medicines or hospitals outside Gaza. About 1700 face a
slow painful death.

The siege has brought about catastrophic effects on daily and economic life.
In recent days power plants have had to be shut down because the fuel that is
needed to run these plants to generate electricity has been blocked by the
Israelis from being imported into Gaza. Gaza now lives in total darkness! What
are the effects of this?... Hospitals are unable to treat the injured or the
terminally ill as there is no electricity to operate equipment. Patients
needing dialysis will be left to die.
My mother-in-law suffers from asthma, so when my husband called home, his
mother could not speak and had to hang up on him because she was suffering
severely as there was no electricity to operate the inhalator. She has to
sleep the whole night breathless in the severe cold.
People cannot store food: meat or milk or such products as refrigerators can
not run without electricity. The temperature at night inside is the same as
outside, recently being below 0 degrees… but the people cannot warm their
houses as there is guess what….no electricity!
The previous agricultural activities of the occupying settlers has left the
water reserves lacking and contaminated. The pure clean drinking water is
stolen by the israleis and pumped into the settlements and the Israeli cities.
When this water is depleted the source is filled with sea water which is by no
means drinkable. Due to this fact there has emerged water filtering companies
from which the population has to buy for consumption purposes, these companies
can not operate without electricity. The other major concern with water and

Bismillah [IslamCity] End the Siege on Gaza - Saturday 26th January- International Day of Action

2008-01-21 Thread Aisha Abbasi

***PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY***

End the Siege on Gaza
International Day of Action

Saturday 26th January
4-6pm
Parliament, London

View a short film about the 400 strong protest on the 12th of January outside
Downing Street:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWhBC6hP6cM

Join us in protesting against Israel blocking desperately ill Palestinians from
accessing medical treatment and its escalating military attacks on Gaza
Saturday 26 January, 4-6pm Parliament We are particularly appealing to medical
staff to join us in uniform to visibly express their opposition to Israel
preventing Gazans from traveling for lifesaving medical treatment. ‘The human
catastrophe deliberately inflicted on Gaza by western policies over the past
two years is one of the great crimes of the century so far’. Jonathan Steele,
Guardian 11 January. Israel’s illegal, brutal siege of Gaza is tightening,
restricting fuel and electricity, and preventing even medical supplies, food,
essential construction materials and paper for UN schoolbooks from entering
Gaza . With lethal military strikes being launched on Gaza , and Ehud Barak has
warned that an Israeli invasion of Gaza is nearing. Even those who desperately
need medical treatment are prevented from leaving. Over 65 Palestinians have
died as a direct result of Israel ’s prevention of access to medical treatment.
Miri Weingarten from the Physicians for Human Rights-Israel said ‘ Israel
intends and wishes to punish the general population in Gaza , and they're not
hiding it -- in fact, they've stated it clearly.’ Dr Ahmed Abu Tawahineh,
deputy director of the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, has pointed out
that since last June, only a hundred patients have been allowed out of Gaza to
seek treatment - less than 10 per cent of the more than 1,000 applicants. The
Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported harrowing scenes of: 'a
two-and-a-half-year-old boy, Ahmed Samut from Khan Yunis, and a
nine-and-a-half-year-old girl, Sausan Jaafari, of Rafah, as they entered the
Erez crossing alone, after being torn from the arms of their weeping parents.
The two children have heart conditions and need urgent surgery to save their
lives...The parents of the two children, both fathers and mothers, were not
permitted by the Israel Defense Forces' coordination and liaison administration
to accompany their children to this critical surgery. They are denied entry
to Israel . The fact that Sausan's parents had accompanied her to previous
operations at Wolfson did not change the evil decree. It is indeed a decree of
unparalleled evil. Only the elderly uncle of one of the children was allowed to
go with them.' http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/943343.html. How long can
this inhuman treatment continue unchallenged by international leaders?
Collective punishment is being inflicted upon the Palestinians for voting for a
government against the wishes of Israel , the US and the EU.
Call on the British government to end its collusion with these policies, which
are imprisoning Gazans and attempting to destroy their lives by limiting access
to food, electricity, clean water supplis and medical treatment.
26 January has been declared a day of international solidarity. Join us in
calling on our government to act to immediately lift the siege of Gaza . Join
us in calling on our government to end the siege immediately! More details:

Bismillah [IslamCity] The room

2008-01-17 Thread Aisha Abbasi
The RoomAuthor UnknownIn that place between wakefulness and dreams, I found
myself in the room. There were no distinguishing features save for the one wall
covered with small index card files. They were like the ones in libraries that
list titles by author or subject in alphabetical order. But these files, which
stretched from floor to ceiling and seemingly endlessly in either direction,
had very different headings. As I drew near the wall of files, the first to
catch my attention was one that read People I Have Liked. I opened it and
began flipping through the cards. I quickly shut it, shocked to realize that I
recognized the names written on each one.And then without being told, I knew
exactly where I was. This lifeless room with its small files was a crude
catalog system for my life. Here were written the actions of my every moment,
big and small, in a detail my memory couldn't match.A sense of wonder and
curiosity, coupled with horror, stirred within me as I began randomly opening
files and exploring their content. Some brought joy and sweet memories; others
a sense of shame and regret so intense that I would look over my shoulder to
see if anyone was watching. A file named Friends was next to one marked
Friends I Have Betrayed. The titles ranged from the mundane to the outright
weird. Books I Have Read, Lies I Have Told, Comfort I Have Given, Jokes
I Have Laughed At. Some were almost hilarious in their exactness: Things I've
Yelled at My Brothers. Others I couldn't laugh at: Things I Have Done in My
Anger, Things I Have Muttered Under My Breath at My Parents. I never ceased
to be surprised by the contents. Often there were many more cards than I
expected. Sometimes fewer than I hoped.I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of
the life I had lived. Could it be possible that I had the time in my 20 years
to write each of these thousands or even millions of cards? But each card
confirmed this truth. Each was written in my own handwriting. Each signed with
my signature. When I pulled out the file marked Songs I Have Listened To, I
realized the files grew to contain their contents. The cards were packed
tightly, and yet after two or three yards, I hadn't found the end of the file.
I shut it, shamed, not so much by the quality of music, but more by the vast
amount of time I knew that file represented. When I came to a file marked
Lustful Thoughts, I felt a chill run through my body. I pulled the file out
only an inch, not willing to test its size, and drew out a card. I shuddered at
its detailed content. I felt sick to think that such a moment had been
recorded. An almost animal rage broke on me. One thought dominated my mind: No
one must ever see these cards! No one must ever see this room! I have to
destroy them! In an insane frenzy I yanked the file out. Its size didn't
matter now. I had to empty it and burn the cards. But as I took it at one end
and began pounding it on the floor, I could not dislodge a single card. I
became desperate and pulled out a card, only to find it as strong as steel when
I tried to tear it.Defeated and utterly helpless, I returned the file to its
slot. Leaning my forehead against the wall, I let out a long, self-pitying
sigh. And then I saw it. The title bore People that I Have Taught About
Allah. The handle was brighter than those around it, newer, almost unused. I
pulled on its handle and a small box not more than three inches long fell into
my hands. I could count the cards it contained on one hand. And then the tears
came. I began to weep. Sobs so deep that the hurt started in my stomach and
shook through me. I fell on my knees and cried. I cried out of shame, from the
overwhelming shame of it all. The rows of file shelves swirled in my
tear-filled eyes. No one must ever, ever know of this room. I must lock it up
and hide the key.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Exclusive interview with Imam Anwar Al Awlaki with cagerprisoners

2008-01-02 Thread Aisha Abbasi

http://cageprisoners.com/articles.php?id=22926

Listen to the audio of the interview here

Exclusive interview with Imam Anwar Al Awlaki with cagerprisoners

Moazzam Begg: When were you arrested? On what grounds were you held? Were there
any charges made against you?Anwar Al-Awlaki: Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem[i]. I
was arrested in mid-2006. Initially I was held because I entered as an
arbitrator in a local issue here, a tribal issue. I was an arbitrator in that
issue and I was arrested until that issue… because the government wanted to
solve that issue rather than have it solved tribally.MB: Right.AA: After that,
they began asking me questions about my local Islamic activities here, and
later on it was becoming clear that I was being held due to the request of the
US government. That was what they were telling me here, and that the Americans
wanted to meet me.MB: Subhan Allah[ii]. Well, that’s something that we can
share together. I’ve also been held at the request of the Americans for quite
some time. The other question is that the media reported that your incarceration
was due to having some knowledge, or some people who were involved in 9/11 at
your sermons. Could you clarify any of this at all?AA: That was one of the
issues that the Americans asked about but I don’t know if I was held because of
that, or because of the other issues that they presented. But it was one of the
issues that they enquired about.MB: Can you describe a little bit about what
your prison conditions were like? What was your individual cell was like?AA:
For the first nine months, I was in solitary confinement in an underground
cell. I would say that the cell was about 8 feet by 4. It was about 12 feet
high. It was clean. No interaction with any other prisoner was allowed for the
entire nine months. After that, they moved me to the upper floor. The same
thing, it was solitary confinement, although the restrictions were less, and
the room was larger, it was about, maybe three times the size of the initial
room, the initial cell. I spent there the remainder of my period, which was one
and a half a years.I was allowed for the last month and a half… they moved
another person into this room, for the last month and a half. So for a year and
a half, minus this month and a half, I was in solitary confinement, with the
exception of the last month and a half.MB: Subhan Allah. Did they place any
restrictions on you in terms of what you were allowed to have in your cell, how
you were allowed to interact with other prisoners, or in any way, other than
you have already stated?AA: When I was in the underground cell, there were
restrictions on family visits, restrictions on any food that my family would
send me, there were restrictions on books. I was not allowed pen and paper, and
no exercise whatsoever. I hadn’t seen the sun for the entire period. What else…
No interaction at all with any person except with the prison guards.Later on,
when I moved to the upper level, even though I was still in solitary
confinement, but the restrictions were less. Visits from the family were more
frequent. They would allow me food from home twice a week, and I was allowed
more books. So things were better during the last period of the time I spent in
detention… I don’t want to say sentence, because there wasn’t any sentence.MB:
That’s one of the questions I was meant to ask you. You were never charged with
a crime, is that correct, and you were never put through any legal system?AA: I
wasn’t charged with anything. I was held for interrogation. When interrogation
was over, I was released.MB: Did any foreign interrogation take place? Did any
Americans or any other foreign nationals interrogate you?AA: Yes, the US did
interrogate me. Officials from the US.MB: And do you know if that was the FBI?
Did they identify themselves as FBI, CIA, NSA or anything?AA: Yes. They were
FBI.MB: Okay. And how was their attitude towards you… how did they deal with
you as a person, how did they regard you?AA: There was some pressure, which I
refused to accept and that led to a conflict that occurred between me and them,
because I felt that it was improper behaviour from their behalf. That led to an
issue between me and them during the interrogation. That was solved however,
later on, and they apologised.MB: Al Hamdulillah[iii]. Were you able to have
contact with your family at all, during the imprisonment, of course you’ve
already said that they restricted from you letters, phone calls, and so forth,
for the first nine months, I think you said. But afterwards, did they allow you
this contact?AA: Yes, towards the latter period of my imprisonment, I was
allowed visits from my family, once a week.MB: How often were you interrogated,
by either local officials or foreign officials? Was it something regular, or
was it something sporadic?AA: The interrogation was on and off for a year.MB:
Is there any truth in the rumour that you

Former Guantanamo Chaplain Tours UK For The First

opportunity to hear former US army Chaplain James Yee speak and discuss his
experiences with former Guantánamo detainee and Cageprisoners’ spokesman,
Moazzam Begg. There are few people in the world who have never heard of the
notorious US military prison facility at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. However, very
few people have heard eye-witness accounts from US military personnel who
served there – and even more rarely from Muslims within the US
military.Chaplain (Yusuf) James J. Yee, a former US Army Chaplain and graduate
of West Point served as the Muslim Chaplain for the U.S. prison camp in
Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2003. While ministering to prisoners at guantanamo
Bay, Captain Yee advised camp commanders on detainee religious practices and
objected to the cruel and degrading abuses to which the prisoners were
subjected. What sets Yee’s already unique story apart from others is how his
fortune changed from being recognized twice as an outstanding officer serving
the US military to being regarded as an enemy of the state. Captain Yee was
arrested and imprisoned in a Naval brig for 76 days in September 2003 while
being falsely accused of spying, espionage, and aiding the alleged Taliban and
Al-Qaeda prisoners. He was held in solitary confinement and subjected to the
same sensory deprivation techniques that were being used against the prisoners
in Cuba that he had been ministering to.After months of government
investigation, all criminal charges were dropped. He tendered his resignation
from the U.S. Army and received an Honorable Discharge on January 7, 2005. Upon
separation he was awarded with a second Army Commendation medal for

2007-12-02 Thread Aisha Abbasi

spite of his young age (almost 11) and not having seen his father in over five
years, Anas has worked hard for the release and return of his father, having
written to Prince Charles and Tony Blair shortly after his father was kidnapped
and rendered when he was six, followed by other letters to the Prime Minister,
speaking on international TV and to press media, speaking at demonstrations
around London and in parliament. Please support Kate Allen's nomination of Anas

Dear Local MP dude/dudette (search www.writetothem.com), Re: Counter Terrorism
Bill 2007 proposals I am writing to you as your constituent to express my
concerns about the government’s proposals for the Counter-Terrorism Bill 2007.
These proposals seek to extend the injustice of current police powers, which
are extensive already. These proposals are based on the Terrorism Act 2000,
which has defined terrorism so broadly as to criminalise many normal political
activities in this country and resistance to oppressive regimes abroad. That
Act created the ‘terrorist’ offences of belonging to certain organisations,
sharing a platform with their members, and helping them financially, for
example by selling publications. In particular I oppose the following new
powers, which would be inherently unjust: 1. Detention without charge would be
extended from 28 days to 56 days or possibly even 90 days. For anyone deemed a
‘terror suspect’, the current limit of 28 days already represents a drastic
extension from that before the Terrorism Act 2000. There are no credible
grounds for why such a long time would be necessary. It is equivalent to 8
weeks of a custodial sentence. The 28-day detention period has been used as a
substitute for a proper criminal investigation, instead intimidating and
stigmatising people as ‘terror suspects’. Extending pre-charge detention would
be equivalent to 4 months of custodial sentence having serious impact on an
individuals job prospects and family life. The majority of the people arrested
under anti-terror laws are innocent and they need to be protected. Such a long
detention amounts to internment in all but name, thus violating the principle
of habeas corpus. It ignores the principle that citizens must be considered
innocent until proven guilty. Police naturally want as much time as possible to
lean on a suspect before honouring this principle. They may also lobby
government to give them such powers, but in a free society, the police enforce
the law, they don't make it. 2. Post-charge questioning of ‘terror
suspects’Likewise such powers can be used to intimidate detainees, as a
substitute for an adequate basis for the criminal charge in the first place.
There needs to appropriate judicial oversight to ensure that this is supervised
rigorously to prevent intimidation and pro-longed interrogation.3. A new
criminal offence of seeking ‘information which could be useful for terrorism’.
This offence would apply regardless of whether or not the seeker intends a
‘terrorist’ use – again terrorism being defined in such a broad way as to
encompass many non-violent activities and to criminalise the peace movement,
some strikers, or anyone planning boycotts, pickets, blockades etc. Information
‘which could be useful for terrorism’ can mean nearly anything, e.g. having
maps or researching companies, and would be used for speculative charges to
harass or criminalise political activists. 4. Travel restrictions for
‘suspects’For mere suspicion of involvement in terrorism, anyone could face
travel restrictions and be deprived of their passport. Protesters could be
prevented from travelling to international demonstrations. Like control orders,
this would be punishment without trial. 5. Collective punishment of families of
convicted terroristsUnder control orders, the imposing of curfews, electronic
tagging, restrictions on the use of telephones (and mobile phones and the
Internet) and restrictions on visits by relatives and friends, even of
children, have turned homes into prisons for the family as a whole. The
proposal to make it easier for the court to order the forfeiture of complex
assets, such as a house and a flat of a convicted terrorist would punish the
family. Given the recent convictions for possessing DVDs however radical under
the provisions of the ‘glorification of terrorism’, this move is extremely
serious. The counter terrorism powers that exist and the

Bismillah [IslamCity] A mistake worth its weight in gold

2007-11-26 Thread Aisha Abbasi
(fwded to me by another sister)
A Mistake Worth its Weight in Gold From the Original Arabic Piece by Adel bin
Muhammad al-Abdul 'AaleeTranslated by Abu DujanahOne of the Salaf entered a
field, hungry and tired, so he wanted to eat, and his stomach was 'rumbling'.
He saw an apple tree, and picked an apple to eat. He ate half of it under the
protection of Allah, then he drank from the river near the field. After that,
he suddenly realised that he was not aware of what he did due to his hunger,
and thought to himself: Woe to you! How can you eat someone else's provision
without permission. In remorse he was determined not to leave the place until
he found the owner of the garden, and confess to him that he had eaten his
provision without his permission. He looked around and saw a house and went up
to the door and knocked on it.The owner came out and asked him what he wanted.
The Salaf said: I was hungry and entered your garden and took this apple and
ate half of it, then I remembered it was not mine, and I came to beg you to
forgive me for this mistake. The man replied, I will not forgive you except on
one condition? So the Salaf asked (and he is Thaabit bin Nu'maan), What is
your condition? The owner of the garden said: I want you to marry my
daughter. The honourable Salaf without hesitation said: yes, I will marry
her. The father of the girl then said: I want you to know that my daughter is
blind and cannot see, dumb and cannot speak, deaf and cannot hear. The
revelation shocked Thaabit bin Nu'maan and thoughts flashed through his mind -
what a disaster - what's he going to do? Then he remembered that the trials and
tribulation he has to endure by accepting this woman as his wife, and taking
care of her and serving her is better for him than to eat the food (sadeed) of
hellfire due to the fact that he had eaten the apple without permission. He
also realised that if he did not make amends, his days in the dunya are
numbered. So he promised to marry the girl, and prayed for forgiveness and
reward from Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. The day of marriage came, and the man
was nervous and very worried: How will I enter upon a woman who does not
speak, see, or hear?! What a dilemma, and he wished the earth would swallow
him before that happened (i.e. going the wedding ceremony), but he remembered
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala and said: Laa Hawla wa laa quwata illa billah, wa
inna lilah wa inna ilayhi raji'oon. He went off to the wedding ceremony and
when he arrived, his future bride stood up and greeted him, saying, Assalamu
'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. When he saw her, it took his breath
away and remembered what he had imagined of the hoor il-'ayn in paradise.
Gaining his composure, he blurted out: What is this? So you speak, see, and
hear. Thaabit bin Nu'maan then informed her what her father had to told
him.She gave him the most beautiful smile and said: My father spoke the truth
and he didn't lie.But why did he tell me things about you which are
untrue? She replied, My father said I am dumb, because I have never said a word
which displeases Allah, nor have I ever spoken to a man whom it is not
permissable to speak to. [He said] I am deaf, because I have never sat it in a
place where malicious backbiting, gossip or tale-telling takes place. [He said]
I am blind because I have never looked at a man who was not permissable for me
to look.So ponder how Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala united this pious woman to
this pious man.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Coping with personal problems

2007-11-18 Thread Aisha Abbasi
Coping with Personal ProblemsBy Sheikh Salman al-'Awdah Who does not have
problems?Problems are a part of life. If it were not for distance and
separation, people would never know the joy of meeting and reunion. If it were
not for poverty, people would not know wealth. And if it were not for sorrow,
people would not know joy.In this manner, Allah has permitted the world to be a
place of passage, where pleasure is accompanied by pain and laughter by tears,
a world where the degree and severity of suffering is commensurate to the
degree of happiness a person feels when that suffering goes away.Every home has
its problems, as does every office, corporation, and country. Every soul is
afflicted with its own inner problems. When a person knows that his own self
does not comply with what he wants from it and does not fulfill his
expectations, and that it often shames him and disappoints him unbearably, then
what can he possibly expect from others? What can he hope to expect from the
difficulties that arise from social interactions, whether they occur within a
family setting, or among neighbors, or between colleagues and business
partners, or with those who he meets on the road?In spite of all this, the
goodness, companionship, and human welfare that social interactions bring about
can never be attained by a person who lives in isolation. The evils brought
about by seclusion are far greater than the discomfort that comes from dealing
with others. How many people have tried to solve their problems by cutting off
their dealings with others and going into seclusion? They seek to treat their
ailments with something that is a sickness itself. They wind up longing to
return to the very circumstances that they had so much detested before.A woman
feels that she can not stand to live with her husband's behavior any more and
sees divorce as the only solution. Then when she gets what she wants, she feels
like she is going to die of loneliness and starts to think of a way to undo
what she had done.An employee feels he can not bear his job any longer so he
quits his job. After a while, though, he starts looking for people to intercede
on his behalf as he repeatedly tries to get his job back. This is why it is not
sensible to hastily resort to severing ties, thinking that this is going to get
to the root of the problem and make it just go away. This course of action can
possibly cause much more suffering than before.Specialists in problem
management have set down the following practical steps for dealing with one's
problems. These steps can be summarized as follows:Perceiving and recognizing
the problem.Defining the problem correctly.Research, examination, and fact
finding, with a focus on pinpointing causes.Setting down alternatives and
options, then evaluating them and weighing their pros and cons.Determining the
option that will provide the best solution to the problem. These steps can only
be put into practice by a person who can approach his problems with a calm,
level head. Reactions that are spontaneous and overemotional only serve to
cloud a person's judgment, making it seem that the only solution is to
completely divorce oneself from the source of the problem and with everything
that in any way relates to it.The problem could actually come from the deep
within a person's character or personal history and cannot be simply shrugged
off. It could also come from unavoidable circumstances outside of that person's
control. Often we besiege ourselves with problems and difficulties. This is not
to say that those problems are not real. They definitely are. But we often have
many good ways of getting around them. We do not have to dwell on them. We need
to seek the help of Allah and cling hard to the firm handhold that He provides,
repeating the words: You alone we worship and You alone we beseech for
help. One of the supplications that the Prophets of old used to make goes as
follows: O Allah! Yours is the praise. You are the one whose help we seek. You
are the one on whom we rely. Yours is the aid that we seek. There is no might
and no strength except with Allah, the High and Mighty. We can look at our
problems as they really are and strive to get rid of them or at least minimize
them, without letting them suffocate us or hold us back. Our problems must not
make us stop working and living productive lives. We can also defer some
problems that we cannot solve at the present time and wait for Allah, in whose
hands rest all affairs, to relieve us of themIt is related from Ibn Mas`ûd that
Allah's Messenger said: The best form of worship is to wait for relief.
[Sunan al-Tirmidhî (3571), al-Bazzâr (Majma` al-Zawâ'id 10/147), and al-Bayhaqî
in Shu`ab al-Imân (7/204)] This narration, though, is weak. [1] At the same
time, there can be no doubt that expecting relief from Allah is a form of
worship, since it is part of being patient. This brings to our attention an

Bismillah [IslamCity] sowing the seeds of discord

2007-11-17 Thread Aisha Abbasi
(An excellent story forwarded to me) There were three bulls, a white bull, a
red bull, and a black bull. A hungry wolf approached the red and the black bull
and told them if they let him eat the white bull he would not have any further
interest in eating them. So in order to save themselves they agreed, and the
wolf devoured the white bull. A few days later the wolf returned and stealthily
took aside the black bull and told him if he let him eat the red bull he would
not attack or eat the black bull. The black bull agreed and the wolf devoured
the red bull. A few days passed and once again the wolf returned as hungry as
ever. He found the black bull and they both knew what was coming next. The wolf
told the black bull to at least try and save himself to which the black bull
responded, 'I was dead the day I allowed the white bull to be devoured'. Whilst
united the wolf could not devour any of them, but once the wolf began sowing
the seeds of discord, he was able to conquer them one at a time. When the black
bull realised what the wolf was up to, it was too late.May Allaah swt save us
from this and may we unite in favour of Allaah swt and his commands. Ameen

Bismillah [IslamCity] gems and jewels

2007-10-27 Thread Aisha Abbasi

Taken from Gems and Jewels - compiled by Abdul Malik MujahidDo not attach your
heart to other than AllahImaam ibn Taymiyyah RA said: “Anyone whose heart is
attached to the creation, hoping for someone from the creation to help him or
provide for him or guide him, then his heart submits to them and to the degree
that his heart submits to them, he becomes their slave. This holds true, even
if he is outwardly a ruler or guardian over those whom he treats as masters.
The wise one looks at realities and not at appearances. So if a man’s heart is
attached to his wife, even though it is permissible, his heart remains a
prisoner to her and she may rule over him as she pleases – though outwardly he
is her master and her husband. In reality, he is her prisoner and her slave,
especially if she knows how much he is need of her and how much he is in love
with her and how much he feels she cannot be replaced by anyone else. At that
point, she rules over him as the tyrant master rules over his subjugated slave,
who cannot escape of go free. Indeed for the heart to be taken as a prisoner is
a much greater matter than for the body to be taken prisoner or slave. Even a
body that is a slave can have in it a serene and peaceful and happy heart. As
far the heart that is a slave to other than Allah then that is true
humiliation, imprisonment and slavery.”

Words of wisdomWhen Ibn `Aun was bidding farewell to another man, he said:
“Upon you is to fear Allah, for the one who has taqwaa never feels
loneliness”.Zaid bin Aslam said: “Whoever fears Allah people will love him,
even if they had previously hated him”.Imaam Thauri said to Ibn Abi Dha`ib “If
you fear Allah, He will be enough for you so that you do not need people. And
if you fear people, they will not satisfy you in the least terms of your total
dependence on Allah”Sulaiman bin Dawood said “We have been given what others
have been given and more, and we know what others know and more, and we have
found that nothing is better than the fear of Allah in secret and in open,
justice during times of happiness and sadness, and moderation in times of
poverty and richness”.

True HonourAllah SWT says in the Noble Quraan that honour comes only through
piety:‘Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that believer who has
taqwaa (piety, righteousness, the fear of Allah etc)’ 49:13It is related that
Umar bin Khattab RA passed by a man who proudly said ‘I am from the valleys of
Makkah’. He stood over him and said, ‘If you have religion, then you have
honour, if you have sound mind, then you have dignity, if you have knowledge
then you have respect otherwise you are on an equal footing with donkeys.’And
it has been said “honour during the days of Ignorance was achieved by eloquent
speech, by bravery and forbearance and in Islam by religion and piety”.

Five mattersThe Prophet said, “I was given five matters that no other Prophet
before me was given. The first is that I was given victory with terror (i.e,
people felt fear and terror) equivalent to the distance it would take one to
travel in one month (that is how widespread the terror and awe had become).
Secondly, the entire earth has been made a mosque for me and its soil is pure.
Thirdly, the spoils of war have been made lawful to me. Next, I have been given
intercession, and finally each Prophet before me was sent to a specific people,
while I was sent to all of mankind” (Saheeh Bukhari).

Bismillah [IslamCity] final destination

2007-10-27 Thread Aisha Abbasi

Remembering the Destination of Mankind in the Hereafter – A Cure for Weak
ImanIbnul Qayyim al Jawziyyah Madaarij us-Saalikeen islaam.com When one's mind
is clear, he will be able to see clearly, thus giving such a person a light in
his heart that will allow him to almost witness the Warning and the Promise,
Paradise and Hell, and what Allah has prepared in this (Paradise) For His
Awliyaa` (loyal friends) and in that (Hell) for His enemies. He will then
witness people rushing out of their graves following the call of the Truth
(Resurrection). The angels in the heavens will the descend and will surround
them (creation). Allah will then come to judge (between creation) and His Kursi
(literally a footstool or chair) will be raised. The earth will shine with the
Light of its Lord (Allah, when He comes to judge between His creation), the
Book (of Records) will be opened and the Prophets and the witnesses will be
brought forward. The Mizan (Scale) will then be established, the books of
(individual) records will fly around and the foes will converge, each holding
to its foe. Al-Houdh (the pool that runs outside the gates of Paradise from a
river inside it) will then appear and its cups will appear close by. Thirst
will intensify, but those who are allowed to drink are few. Al-Jisr (the bridge
over Hell that everyone must pass over into Paradise) will then be laid (over
Hell) so that (mankind and the Jinn) can pass over it (as for the disbelievers
and those whose sins outweigh their good deeds, they will fall into Hell, where
only the disbelievers will reside for eternity). People will then be gathered
in its direction. The Fire (Hell) will appear, each part harshly consuming the
other parts beneath it. Those who fall into it are far more than those who are
saved from it. Then, an eye will be opened in his (the man who is thinking
about these scenes) heart with which he will be able to see clearly. His heart
will then witness some scenes of the Last Life, along with imagining the
various stages of the Last Life which will last for eternity, as compared to
this Dunya (the life of this world) and its briefness.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Purification - Intention, Forgetfulness...

2007-10-27 Thread Aisha Abbasi
'Abdullah ibn as-Sunnabiji stated that the Messenger of Allah said:When a
slave makes ablution and rinses his mouth, his wrong deeds fall from it. As he
rinses his nose, his wrong deeds fall from it. When he washes his face, his
wrong deeds fall from it until they fall from beneath his eyelashes. When he
washes his hands, his wrong deeds fall from them until they fall from beneath
his fingernails. When he wipes his head, his wrong deeds fall from it until
they fall from his ears. When he washes his feet, his wrong deeds fall from
them until they fall from beneath his toenails. Then his walking to the mosque
and his prayer give him extra reward. (Related by Malik, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah
and al-Hakim.)

Pronouncing The Intention Verbally - Shaykh Abdul-Azeez ibn BaazWhat is the
ruling regarding pronouncing the intention verbally in Salaat and Wudoo? The
ruling regarding this is that it is an innovation. Because it has not been
reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) or his companions, therefore it
is an obligation to abstain from it. The place of the intention is the heart,
generally there is no need to pronounce the intention verbally. And Allaah is
the possessor of all success._Washing the Hands[1] Before the Face During
Wudhoo - Shaykh Abdul-Azeez ibn BaazI was performing Wudhoo for Salaah and I
forgot to wash my face and washed my hands [2]. I then remembered that, so I
washed my face, then my hands[3] and then completed the Wudhoo. Is there
anything upon (me) with regards to that? And O Eminent Shaykh! What if somebody
forgets to wash his face and did not remember this until he finished the
Wudhoo? Please give us the Islaamic ruling, may Allaah reward you with
good. There is nothing upon you with regards to that, because you went back,
washed your face and then you washed your hands[4] and then completed the
Wudhoo. As for the one who left out (washing) his face and did not remember it
until he finished the Wudhoo, consequently he must redo the wudhoo because it
is an obligation to maintain it’s sequence and wash the prescribed bodily parts
in succession without interruption (whilst performing Wudhoo). And Allaah is the
Possessor of all success.---[1] Up to the elbows [TN][2] Up to the elbows
[TN][3] Again for a second time [TN][4] Again for a second time_Wiping Over
the Nape During Wudhoo - Shaykh Abdul-Azeez ibn BaazIs wiping over the nape
whilst performing the Wudhoo not recommended? Because I have heard that it is
imitating the Jews?Yes, it has not been recommended, and Islamically it has not
been legislated to wipe over the nape, however wiping is only for the head and
the ears, as this has been established in the Quraan Sunnah._Performing
Wudhoo Inside The Bathroom - Shaykh Abdul-Azeez ibn BaazWhat is the ruling upon
one who does Wudhoo inside the bathroom? Is his Wudhoo permissible? There is no
problem for him to perform Wudhoo inside the bathroom if there is a need for
that. He is to invoke the name of Allaah at the beginning of performing Wudhoo,
by saying (ÈÓã Çááå) ‘In the name of Allaah’ because invoking the name of
Allaah (ÇáÊÓãíÉ) is compulsory according to some of the people of knowledge,
and an emphasized Sunnah according to majority of the scholars. So he is to
invoke the name of Allaah and the ruling of (ÇáßÑÇåÉ) Karaahah (dislike - for
uttering it inside the bathroom) is removed because legitimately the (ÇáßÑÇåÉ)
Karaahah ceases when the need is present (like in this case) to invoke the name
of Allaah (inside the bathroom). As the person has been commanded to invoke the
name of Allaah at the beginning of Wudhoo, so he is to invoke the name of
Allaah and then complete his Wudhoo. As with regards to the supplication upon
completing the Wudhoo (ÇáÊÔåÏ) ‘the declaration of faith’ then it is to be
uttered after coming out of the bathroom, as the bathroom is a place to relieve
one’s needs. So when he finishes performing Wudhoo, he is to come out of the
bathroom and utter the (ÇáÊÔåÏ) ‘declaration of faith’ outside . However if the
bathroom is only for the purpose of Wudhoo and it is not for relieving oneself
from stool or urine, then there is no problem for him to utter the supplication
(ÇáÊÔåÏ) ‘declaration of faith’ inside the bathroom, because in this case the
bathroom is not a place to relieve one’s needs.Source:

Bismillah [IslamCity] poem: Down Memory Well - Babar Ahmad

2007-10-24 Thread Aisha Abbasi

http://www.cageprisoners.com/articles.php?id=21859

Down Memory WellBabar Ahmad
Last night I lay awake unable to sleep, As I let my soul wander too deep. My
heart was in doubt about Your Promise,No-one could give me solace. My soul left
my body and my body left my cell,As I pulled up my pail from Memory Well.I
journeyed back to the time of my birth,Not knowing then what it was worth. What
I discovered was a chest of treasure,As I realised You had blessed me without
measure.I remembered all the good You had done for me, In all my years when my
body was free.I was hungry and You fed me, I was bare and You clothed me.I was
alone and You gave me company,By blessing me with friends and family. When I was
sick You cured me.When I was hurt You healed me.When I was sad You cheered me
up.When I was broken You fixed me up.I veered off the path but You brought me
back.I lost my footing but You set me on track.I went astray but You gave me
direction.I felt afraid but You gave me protection. When the pack of beasts
savaged me that day,And the racist devils mocked how I pray,I asked You for
death but You gave me life.I asked it to end but You gave me respite. As I lay
in pain in the cell that December,You sent me a gift I will always remember.A
dream unlike I had ever seen before.A vision that made my spirit soar. What I
saw that winter’s night,Turned my darkness into light.Even as I bled to the
bone,I knew then that I was not alone. You set me free so my body could heal,And
my heart and soul could recover their zeal. You were preparing me for what lay
ahead:A path of peril, fear and dread.Once again You blessed me with
captivity,And made me into someone I never dreamed to be.O Allah! I never
sought all this attention,That I got because of my detention. The more they
defamed me the more You honoured me.The more they detained me the more the
blind could see.The harder it got the more You helped me.The darker it got the
more You enlightened me.As I then gazed at my memories in the pail,I began to
see beyond the veil.I truly was an ungrateful servant,Whose woes appeared ever
so fervent. As my feelings of sorrow turned into shame,I realised I had only
myself to blame. How dare I moan about my pain,When others far worse did not
complain? My throbs of doubt transformed into certainty,As I fell asleep with my
soul in serenity.I had quenched my thirst from Memory Well,And pulled myself
out from my own hell.O Allah, forgive me for my ingratitude!O Allah, ignore my
shameful attitude! You were always there when I wanted You to be,And I know now
that You will never abandon me.Babar Ahmad MX5383, HMP ManchesterSeptember

Bismillah [IslamCity] ten ways.....

2007-10-24 Thread Aisha Abbasi

10 ways of developing love for AllahAdapted from Shaykh Ibn Qayyim's (rah)
Madarij-us-Saalikeen Shaykh Ibn al-Qayyim (rah) says: “The reason which cause
mahabbah (love) of Allaah to develop, are ten:

First: Reciting the Qur’aan, reflecting and understanding its meaning and its
intent.
Second: Drawing closer to Allaah – the Most High – through optional deeds,
after fulfilling the obligatory duties.
Third: Being continuous in the dhikr (remembrance) of Allaah, with the tongue,
the heart and the limbs – under all circumstances. The more continuant the
dhikr, the more muhabbah develops and intensifies.
Fourth: Giving precedence to what Allaah loves over personal loves, when being
overcome by desires.
Fifth: Contemplating and deliberating over the Names and Attributes of Allaah.
Sixth: Recognizing and remembering the favors and bounties of Allaah – both
manifest and hidden.
Seventh: To be humble and submissive before Allaah – and this is the greatest
matter.
Eighth: To be in seclusion reciting the Qur’aan, during that time in which
Allaah descends to the lowest heaven (which is the last third of every night),
finishing this recitation with seeking Allaah’s forgiveness and repenting to
Him.
Ninth: To sit in the gatherings of the true and sincere lovers of Allaah,
reaping the fruits of their speech, and not to speak except if there is benefit
in it and that you know that such talk will increase you in goodness and that
it will benefit others as well.
Tenth: To stay clear of all those causes which distances the heart from Allaah
– the Mighty and Majestic. So these are the ten reasons which cause the person
to develop true love for Allaah and to reach the rank of al-muhabbah, by which
he reaches his Beloved.

Bismillah [IslamCity] 7 Practical Tips for praying Qiyaam al-Layl

2007-10-24 Thread Aisha Abbasi
7 Practical Tips for praying Qiyaam al-LaylReferences'The Night Prayers' by
Muhammad Nasir ud-Deen al-Albanee (rahimahullah),answers by Shaikh Salih
al-Munajjad (hafizahullah) and othersAs-Sunnah Islamic Newsletter Issue 15What
is Qiyaam al-Layl?Qiyaam' means 'standing' and 'Qiyaam al-Layl' means 'standing
in night.' In the Islamic terminology, both terms refer to, 'the voluntary
night prayer, whose time extends from after Isha prayer until dawn.' Other
common names for Qiyaam al-Layl are, Salaat ul-Layl (the night prayer),
Tahajjud (from hajada meaning remained awake at night), Witr(odd-numbered this
term is also used to refer to the last one or three Raka'ah of Qiyaam) and
Taraweeh (resting).A widespread misconception is that Tahajjud is a different
night prayer than Qiyaam or Taraweeh. It is important to clarify this
misunderstanding and to make clear that there is only one nafl night prayer
known by different names. Even though the term Taraweeh is more commonly used
to describe the night prayer in Ramadan, it is not different from Tahajjud.
Thus, the practice of praying Taraweeh in the earlier part of the night and
Tahajjud in the later part should be stopped. The Excellence of Qiyaam
al-LaylNumerous Ahaadeeth and Qur'aanic verses mention the excellence of Qiyaam
al-Layl and the merit of those who perform it regularly. Umm al-Mumineen,
Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anha) reported that the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi
wa-sallam) said: The most beloved deeds to Allah are the most constant, even
if they were little. [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim] and she said in
another narration: Do not ever stop praying Qiyaam. The Prophet (sallallahu
alaihi wa-sallam) never ceased praying it. When he was sick or weak, he prayed
sitting. [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslims] He (sallallahu alaihi
wa-sallam) said:

You should pray Qiyaam al-Layl, for it is the habit of the righteous people
who came before you, and it will bring you closer to your Lord, expiate for bad
deeds, prevent sin, and expel disease from the body. [At-Tirmidhee and Musnad
Ahmad]Narrated Mu'adh Ibn Jabal (radhi allahu anhu): 'The Prophet (sallallahu
alaihi wa-sallam) said to him: May I show you the gates of goodness?' (they
are), (a) Fasting is screen from Hell, (b) As-Sadaqah extinguishes the sins,
as water extinguishes fire, (c) Standing in Salaat (prayer) by a slave of Allah
during the last third part of a night. Then the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi
wa-sallam) recited the verse: Their (believer's) sides forsake their beds, to
invoke their Lord in fear and hope; and they spend out of what We have bestowed
onthem.' [Abu Dawood and at-Tirmidhee]Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu)
reported that Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: The best
of prayer after those prescribed (i.e. obligatory prayer) is that in the depth
of night. [Saheeh Muslims]Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu) reported that
Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: May Allah have mercy on
a man who wakes up at night, prays, and wakes his wife to pray; and if she
refuses, he sprinkles water on her face. And may Allah have mercy on a woman
who wakes up at night, prays, and wakes her husband to pray; andif he refuses,
she sprinkles water on his face. [(Hasan) Abu Dawood ]Abdullah Ibn Bashr
(radhi allahu anhu) reported Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam)
saying: Whoever prays Qiyaam reciting ten verses, he will not be recorded
among the negligent. Whoever prays Qiyaam reciting one hundred verses, he will
be recorded among the devout. And whoever prays Qiyaam reciting one thousand
verses, he will be recorded among those with a multitude of good deeds.
[(Hasan) AbuDawood]7 Practical Tips for praying Qiyaam al-Layl1: Ikhlas
(Sincerity) - the key to Allah's Help and BlessingsHelp of Allah is needed to
accomplish and achieve success in all our affairs. And Allah only helps those
who are sincere in their hearts. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi
wa-sallam) said: If you are truthful with Allah, then Allah will deliver to
you what you wish for. [An-Nasa'ee, al-Hakim and Saheeh al-Jamee] Therefore,
one should have asincere intention to pray Qiyaam al-Layl; seek the Pleasure of
Allah Alone and avoid the desire of praise or fame. Allah says: And they were

Alone… [(98): 5] Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said: The degree to which a person is
helped and aided by Allah depends on the degree of his intention, drive, aim
and hopes. Help from Allah comes to people in proportion to their drive
intention, hopes and fears, and failure comes to them in like manner.2:

Bismillah [IslamCity] eloquent speech

2007-10-24 Thread Aisha Abbasi

Eloquent Speech Abu Hurayrah (radiyallaahu anhu) reported that Allaah's
Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: Love the one whom you love to
a certain degree (moderately), perhaps one day he will be someone for whom you
have hatred, and hate the one for whom you have hatred to a certain degree
(moderately), perhaps one day he will be one whom you love. (at-Tirmidhee) I
am sure that all of you know the famous Hadeeth where Hudhayfah (radiyallaahu
anhu) said: “People used to ask the Messenger of Allaah about the good times,
but I used to ask him about the bad times fearing lest they should overtake me.
I said: Messenger of Allaah, we were in the midst of ignorance and evil, and
then Allaah brought us this good (time through Islaam). Is there any bad time
after this good one?” He said: “Yes.” I asked: “Will there be a good time again
after that bad time?” He said: “Yes, but in it will be a hidden evil.” I asked:
“What will be the evil hidden therein?” He said: “(That time will witness the
rise of) the people who will adopt ways other than mine and seek guidance other
than mine. You will know good points as well as bad points.” I asked: “Will
there be a bad time after this good one?” He said: “Yes. (A time will come)
when there will be people standing and inviting at the gates of Hell. Whoever
responds to their call will be thrown into the fire.” I said: “Messenger of
Allaah, describe them to us.” He said: “They will be a people having the same
complexion as ours and speaking our language.” (Saheeh Muslim) Allaah (Subahana
Wa Ta’ala) said: “And of mankind there is he whose speech may please you (O
Muhammad), in this worldly life, and he calls Allaah to witness as to that
which is in his heart, yet he is the most quarrelsome of the opponents.”
(Al-Baqarah 2:204) ‘Abdullah bin Umar (radiyallaahu anhu) narrated that 2 men
came from the east and addressed the people who wondered at their eloquent
speech. On that Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Some
eloquent speech is as effective as magic.” (Saheeh al-Bukhaaree) And we are in
a time where the ignorant ones are giving verdicts in matters that they have no
knowledge about, and people are taking these ‘ignorant ones’ as scholars. Ibn
Mas’ud (radiyallaahu anhu) said: There will not come upon you a time, except
that it is more evil than the time before it. I do not mean a leader better
than another leader, nor a year better than another year. But your 'Ulemah and
fuqahaa (i.e. your Scholars) will disappear, and you will not find anyone to
succeed them. Then there will come a people who will give verdicts according to
their opinion. (Ibn Hajr related it in Fathul-Baaree). And in another wording:
It is not due to abundance of rain, nor due to its scarcity. Rather it is due
to the disappearance of the Scholars. Then there will come a people who will
give verdicts on matters based upon mere opinion; and thus they will destroy
Islaam. (Ibn Hajr related it in Fathul-Baaree) And that, which affirms the
truth of what Ibn Mas’ud (radiyallaahu anhu) said, is what is reported in the
Sunnah of the Prophet, in his (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam’s) saying: Indeed,
Allaah does not snatch away the knowledge, but He takes it away by the passing
away of the Scholars. Such that when no Scholar remains, the people take
ignorant ones as their leaders. They are asked and give verdicts without
knowledge. Thus, they misguide themselves and misguide others. (Saheeh
al-Bukhaaree and Saheeh Muslim) And the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam)
said: “Indeed it is among the signs of the Hour that knowledge be sought from
the asaghar (minor / lesser people, in lineage or knowledge).” (Recorded by Ibn
al-Mubarak in az-Zuhd, 61 and al-Lalaka’i in Sharh Usool I‘tiqad Ahlus-Sunnah
wal-Jamaa‘ah, 102) And in the Hadeeth of Anas (radiyallaahu anhu), the Prophet
(sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) mentioned some more signs of the Last Hour,
amongst which he said: Knowledge will be lifted and ignorance will become
widespread. (Saheeh al-Bukhaaree and Saheeh Muslim) And the following
statement of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam): “Towards the last
days, a people will emerge who will be young in age and have foolish ideas.
They will speak with the best speech of the creatures. Their Eemaan will not go
past their throats. So wherever you encounter them, kill them, for indeed there
will be a reward for the one who kills them on the Day of Judgement.” (Recorded
in as-Sunnah of Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal) Muhammad bin Sireen, Maalik bin Anas
and many more of the Salaf (Rahimullah) have said: “Indeed, this knowledge is
the Religion! So look carefully towards whom you take your Religion from.” (An
authentic narration on Muhammad Ibn Sireen reported by Muslim in the
introduction to his Saheeh Muslim) So when taking knowledge we have to be
extremely careful where we take it from because taking knowledge
