Any such server would be an Open Relay, and most likely blocked. You must
use the SMTP server provided by your Internet service provider, or some

So how do I configure JAMES 2.1.3 on localhost as an open relay.
I was able to start it, so I can edit:
C:\james-2.1.3\apps\james\SAR-INF\config.xml
However I have no idea where to begin configuring.
Note: I only want to configure it to send emails and not to receice emails.

So how do I configure JAMES 2.1.3 on localhost [to send e-mail]
The default configuration does just that. If you use v2.2.0a4, you won't
even have to configure the DNS servers.

Maybe the space in java home? You should also try not deleting the entire
directory but only the content of the work directory and restart. Another
mysql jar in the classpath? As I remember I experienced something similar.

You should enable SMTP authentication so you won't be an open relay but
still access the server from everywhere.
Better is to make the host name of the local smtp server configurable in
your software. Being an open relay is not a really good idea.
You can find the documentation on

For his project, no one will access him anyway. He just needs to send
e-mail from localhost, which is the default restriction

Thanks!
So how do I configure the DNS... any other stuff to configure???
PS: Dun worry about an open relay, it will only be running JAMES for the
duration of my demo/testing...

Since you are running Windows, open a command prompt, type 'ipconfig /all'
and use the DNS servers you see listed there.

Chris,
It could be another thing.
I have not upgraded my James in a while, so I do not know if this was
already corrected, but...
In your original post, you stated that you shutdown James;
try starting James, then look for the directories and files WITHOUT
stopping James.

That's not the case with the version(s) we're currently using.

For a school project, just download v2.2.0a4 from:
http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-james/nightly
and use it. That should take care of the DNS all by itself (check the DNS
server log after startup).

When you do so, you should consider subclassing the new AbstractRedirect or

Noel,
Thanks for your reply. Any particular place on james.apache.org that will
have more information on those Redirect mailets?
Right now, I simply want to be able to forward a message. Any message, I am
taking baby steps right now.

For
Hut,
I use the Forward mailet to provide simple aliasing (haven't had time to
check out the JDBC Alias table yet).
You should find a Forward mailet example in the config file that points
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to null. In that same area, add a mailet tag like this

Thanks Eric! I will try this out asap.
