Truely excellant news! I've been using jikes for a while now and have
been very impressed by its speed (even when the incremental compile
option was disabled), but have been worried that IBM might decide to
junk it, sell it for huge amounts of money, etc. Now with this

I'm happy to spread the news that IBM has released Jikes as open
source. We Java/Linux folks have been happy to have Jikes as a fast,
correct drop-in for javac under Linux. Now, IBM and the Jikes team
have released the sources to Jikes as well, allowing us to look at and
improve the compiler.
