1. Problem
A vulnerability in the Java Plug-in may allow an untrusted applet
to escalate privileges, through JavaScript calling into Java code,
including reading and writing files with the privileges of the user
running the applet.
This issue is described in the following
idea what to do about the Java plug-in (the plug-in control panel
might have an option for this, but it requires appletviewer to run).

I have a Swing applet.
Tested on Linux/Debian/Mozilla/Blackdown 1.3.1
and Windows/2000/IE/Sun 1.3.1_01.
The behavious is exactly the same:
the init() method is called each time the browser displays the applet.

for Netscape on Solaris. Has it been ported to Linux yet? And if so, where
would one connect for automatic download and/or place it on a local site for

Thanks for taking the time to respond. This isn't the problem,
because it's the stock ControlPanel.html and is already using EMBED.
The plug-in is being triggered OK, it just doesn't seem to run
