Dunno. that's the only thing that worked. I tried to list the hostname
before the loopback in /etc/hosts as I read in the jini archives but
that didn't work. I enabled high-security in the lokkit program of
Redhat so I am effectively behind a firewall.
, things may break.
Don't worry about the message (I presume you're only receiving it when
enabling debug messages):

Thanks to everybody who responded. I have now coabs working properly.
I had eth0 running multicast but not lo so I did
ifconfig lo multicast
route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 240.0.0.0 dev lo
and I got the lookup services up.
I am getting a strange message though from jini and I wonder

Myriam,
Jini works on Linux. You have to make sure that you have multicast
enabled on your eth0 interface (or eth1, ...) and that that you
have a multicast route.
As root execute the following (replace eth0 with an alternative
interface if applicable):
# ifconfig eth0 multicast
# route add -net

Hi!
Does jini work under Linux? I am desperately trying to have this
coabsgrid[1] working with no success. If any of you knows anything
about it under Linux, I would appreciate sharing your
experiences. Thanks.

Has anyone successful set-up jini on their linux box??
Whenever I try to start the jini registry I get a bunch of errors.
RMI is working fine tho.
Any suggestions/successful configurations/tips would be appreciated.

Hi there,
My problem is with firing up the reggie lookup service. It works
fine on my Linux box at work but croaks on my Linux box at home
after spawning a pile of child processes. I get an error like

Hello all,
Anyone working with JINI/JavaSpaces may wish to know that the settings:
export JAVA_COMPILER=
export THREADS_FLAG=green
is all you have to do to get things working stable under Linux. You
really need to do this if you are doing RMID stuff as you can't control
