There have always been issues in battery drainage , besides crashes(of
phone OS) due to bugs in Motorola phones (& its components).This issue
is hardly a surprise for me..
They seem to bring updates but rarely do issues stop from cropping up again..

I think the droid 2 hardware cannot turn into ap mode due to a driver issue
from the manufacturer - the existing tethering softwares use ad-hoc
connecions instead. Or at least thats what i read somewhere.
