I agree with David, JAWS 7.0 certainly was one of the most stable versions
in my opinion.

By comparison, I have found that 6.2 is definitely more stable than 7.1,
of course that is on my systems.
I would say give 7.1 a try, and if you find that it doesn't play nice on
your system, then go back to 6.2.

Personally I found version 7.0 to be wonderfully stable but not 7.1.
Currently I'm using 8.0 of jaws and I find it just fine as well.
