Hello Andrew, I had the problem about two weeks ago. After a lot of
correspondence with FS support it came to removing some scripts.
First under jaws options go to manage applications and uncheck outlook
express. Restart jaws and it should work ok. If this is the case go back to
manage applications and remove outlook express or you could just leave it
unchecked.

I installed the latest JAWS update to day thru the JAWS help menu and am no
longer able to reply or forward a message in Outlook Express. When trying to
reply or forward, I now receive an error message saying reply script cannot be
found and forward script cannot be found.

So, I then tried performing a JAWS repair using my JAWS 8 CD and received the
following error message.

  Installer Information

The file 'FileFinder.ini' cannot be installed because the

file cannot be found in cabinet file 'JAWS.cab'. This could

indicate a network error, an error reading from the

CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

Denny,

I also get a couple of the Kim Kommando mailings such as her Tip
of the day and I'm able to do the letter h and down arrow twice to get
right to the tip. I tried the letter p you suggested and the h is
fewer keystrokes for me.

Yes, that will jump past the headers, but I also use the letter p to

a lot of stuff I don't want to read in some email messages.
For example, I get the Kim Kommando tip of the day and she has a lot

that part of the newsletter.
Just a suggestion for some of your email messages.

[JAWS-Users] using JAWS with Dragon

2007-04-26 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

Greetings all,

I acquired a new client that is currently using Dragon and is interested in
learning JAWS. The only problem is that I never had the opportunity to use
dragon or Jawbone and please correct me if I was miss informed, you need
Jawbone in order to bridge Dragon and JAWS. So, my question is, is there any
one on the list that is using the combination of these three programs and if
so, would you be willing to talk to me off list. I also am wondering if
someone could email me the web addresses to the download trial version of
Dragon and Jawbone??

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions,

Andrew

2007-04-18 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

Greetings folks, I found the below info on the FS web site at:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_downloads/jaws.asp#skip

Note: JAWS 8.0 or later does not support Windows 98 or ME. If your computer
runs either operating system, you should use JAWS version 7.X or earlier
instead.

I believe you are referring to IE 7.0, not windows XP. XP support goes all
the way back to 4.51 actually. IE 7 support just started in 7.1.

I would hear. this noise is a thumping noise and then it won't take me to the

open link in new window for it to do anything. I am just wondering what might
be going on and why this might be happening? I am also wondering what I can do

[JAWS-Users] Re: Downloading Adobe Help

2007-03-27 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

Downloading and installing adobe reader 8

Go to the below link:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep3.html?option=full&order=1&type=&language=English&platform=WinXPSP2&esdcanbeused=1&esdcanhandle=0&hasjavascript=1&getsconly=1&getgtb=1&x=0&y=0

Once the website loads, tap the letter X two times to move to the check box
that says (free Google Toolbar) and tap the space bar to uncheck it. This
will insure that you don't inadvertently download this annoying Toolbar.

You then need to tap the letter B two times or until you move to the
(download Adobe Reader button) and then tap enter to start the download
process. If you hear a blupey sound, this means that the program is being
blocked and you will need to hold down Alt and tap the letter N. then tap
your applications key, down arrow to install and enter. This will tell your
computer that it is OK to download the program.

You then will receive a message asking if you would like to run or save this
file. Up-arrow to run and enter. The download process will start. It may
take a few minutes to download. When it is dun, you will be placed on a
install now button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on a
next button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on another
install button, enter on this button. Now just sit back and let it take care
of it's self. When it has finished installing, you will be placed on a
finish button. Just enter on this button to complete the install. Keep in
mind at any time you would like to repeat the last prompt spoken, just use
the JAWS repeat command insert plus tab.

Now you will need to set up the program. The license agreement will pop up.
Shift tab back to the except button and tap enter. Now an accessibility
option screen will pop up, tab once to (use recommended settings and skip
setup button) and then tap enter. Now all you need to do is use alt plus F4
to close the program and the next time you receive a .PDF file you should be
able to open it.

Thanks. But when I did that microsoft internet I think it said blocked the
download and I remember there was a way around that if you heard the blurb
sound. Also, I remembered the instructions said to uncheck the google
toolbar which I did first and after the download link was the rest already
stated and this is what I need to know how to get around that step to
continue in the download and install process..

Doesn't what you just suggested just stop the AVG signature at the bottom of
emails that this email has been scanned by AVG? Whether it is incoming email
or outgoing email?

Greetings Doug,

If you are using AVG free, the below directions will most likely fix the
problem.

Note: this does not disable your virus scanner in any way. The only thing it
does is turn off the notice that your emails have been scanned by AVG anti
virus.

1. Open AVG, tab once to the control center button and tap space bar.
2. Use alt plus V to open the view menu and down arrow to the components
submenu icon and then tap enter.
3. Down arrow to the email scanner icon and then tap enter.
4. Tab to the configure button and then tap enter.
5. Tab to and uncheck the two Certify mail checkboxes.
6. Now tab to the OK button and enter and then tab to the OK button again
and enter. This should have eliminated the problem and you now can close AVG
Free with alt plus F4.

(Must have done something wrong.)
Can someone please re-iterate the instructions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi All:

I am currently running Jaws 6.2, which is a very stable version of Jaws. I
am licensed to be able to upgrade to Jaws 7.1. My question is: Based on
others experiences with 7.1, is it worth it? The only real feature that I
would like is to be able to use Firefox with Jaws. But, if 7.1 isn't as
stable as 6.2, then I don't need the headaches.

I will greatly appreciate any feedback.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws 8 repeating big-time

2007-02-01 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

Greetings,

I copied the below info from the MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2000 AND
2002/XP tutorial by John Wilson

You can access this tutorial by going to:
http://www.jaws-users.com/text/

Outlook customization tips for screen users

Depending on which screenreader you are using and how you wish to work, you
will find some of the below customisation
suggestions to be either essential or desirable. Experiment to find out what
suits you and your screenreader.

Launch Outlook from the icon on your Desktop by pressing Windows Logo Key M
(or Windows Logo key D) and then O until Outlook is found and then press
ENTER or run it by pressing the Windows LOGO key, P for programs, M for
Microsoft outlook and when you reach it (you may have to press M several
times, press ENTER.

Now start by opening up the Personal Folders folder folder by pressing
CONTROL Y and then ARROWING to and pressing ENTER on "Inbox" or by going to
the Inbox by pressing CONTROL SHIFT I.
Then:

1. In the View menu make sure that the following options are set
correctly after pressing ALT V (for View): The Outlook Bar should be
unchecked, the Folder List should be checked on, the Preview Pane should be
unchecked, the AutoPreview should be unchecked, and the Status Bar should be
checked on. You change the checked status of these options by pressing ENTER
on them.

2. AS some screenreaders need the BCC field in e-mail headers to be visible
in order to keep focus, you are advised to enable it.
If this field is not already available in your e-mail headers, switch it on
with a blank message open by pressing CONTROL N, then ALT V (for View) and
then by pressing ENTER on "BCC Field" or "BCC" to check it on.
3. To optimise the reading of the Calendar, open Calendar by selecting it
from the Outlook Today links list or from within the Personal Folders list
(press CONTROL Y and then C) and switch it to week view by pressing ALT W,
which will now be retained as the Calendar's normal default view.

4. If you are a Window-Eyes user, ensure that the correct set files are
installed by Launching Outlook and then press CONTROL BACKSLASH to enter the
Window-Eyes Control Panel, then press ALT F and then F again. In the list of
set files you will come into press the letter O to jump to "Office 2000,
Word, Excel, Outlook" or "Office XP, Word, Excel, Outlook" whichever version
you are using and then TAB twice to "Install" and press ENTER.

5. From the Outlook Today view or your Inbox, Enter the Tools menu with ALT
T and press ENTER on "Customise". In here, in the "Options" property sheet
(press CONTROL TAB to get there), ensure that "Always Show Full Menus" is
checked on if using Outlook XP, or if using Outlook 2000 ensure that "Show
Recently Used Commands First" is checked off.

6. There are more fine-tuning of options tips given below in Section 4 but
these should suffice for just now.

list in the in-box. Any ideas how to stop this? I am using Office XP Pro

Hi Andrew,

I followed your excellent steps here to the letter and installed this pretty
much without a hitch had to do pretty much as you stated here..
Thanks for the excellent steps wouldn't have had a clue as to how to do all
of this without your assistance. You are to be congradulated on providing
the steps for all of us like me who blunder through the path of less
experienced computer users..

Many Thanks!

Downloading and installing adobe reader 8, You can download this program
from:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep3.html?option=full&order=1&type=&language=English&platform=WinXPSP2&esdcanbeused=1&esdcanhandle=0&hasjavascript=1&getsconly=1&getgtb=1&x=0&y=0

Now an accessibility
option screen will pop up all you need to do hear is tab once to (use
recommended settings and skip setup button) and then tap enter. Now all you
need to do is use alt plus F4 to close the program and the next time you
receive a .PDF file you should be able to open it.

I hope these directions are clear, I put them together in about 10 minutes.

The insert Plus number row 3 bypass key command only allows one key to be
past thru. If you need to pass another one thru you must perform the bypass

Okay...dumb question?

After the insert plus 3...then do you do the same thing to return JAWS to
its original function?

I went to the start list and restarted JAWS...this other method sounds
easier.

How does it work on the finish part of the game?

The problem with this web page is that if you have JAWS running and you

I suppose there are other ways around this little glitch from JAWS such as
unloading JAWS while on this web page or putting JAWS in "sleep mode" but
that has other ramifications that I prefer to avoid.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Tables in Word

2007-01-17 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

Greetings Andy,

I found the below info in the JAWS help menu.
HTH, Andrew
Tables in Word

JAWS detects when you move into, out of, and within a table (from row to row
or column to column) and even warns you when you TAB into the last cell.
JAWS
also indicates when the number of columns changes from one row to another.
Table detection includes nested tables.

Press CTRL+INSERT+T to list all tables in the document. The list shows each
table and its dimensions. Select the table you want, and press ENTER to move
to it. The insertion point is placed in the first cell of the table, or in
the first form field in the table if the document is protected.

Reading Tables

In Word, once in a table, press TAB to move to the next cell, and press
SHIFT+TAB to move to the prior cell. The JAWS standard commands for reading
tables
are also supported. Refer to
Using JAWS to Navigate Tables.

To read a table row, press ALT+INSERT+R. To read a table column, press
ALT+INSERT+C.

Column and Row Titles

JAWS can be set to automatically announce the title of columns and/or rows
as you move through tables. To configure row and/or column title reading:

list of 4 items
1. Move to the column or row that contains the titles. If you are setting
both column and row titles, move to the cell where the column and row
containing
the titles intersect.
2. Press INSERT+V to open the Adjust JAWS Verbosity dialog.
3. Move to Set Row Titles Column to specify row titles are within the
current column. Move to Set Column Titles Row to specify that column titles
are within
the current row.
4. Press ENTER to close the dialog.
list end

The Title Reading verbosity item is automatically set based on whether you
configured row titles, column titles, or both. If you feel you are receiving
too much information, return to the Adjust JAWS Verbosity dialog, move to
Title reading, and select the setting you want to use. The available
settings
are:

list of 4 items
. Read No Titles
. Read Column Titles
. Read Row Titles
. Read Both Titles
list end

To reread a column title, press ALT+INSERT+SHIFT+C and to reread a row
title, press ALT+INSERT+SHIFT+R.

To reset the row and column title definitions to the default and turn off
title reading, open the Adjust JAWS Verbosity dialog, move to Clear Title
Definitions,
and press SPACEBAR.

Non Uniform Tables

Non uniform tables are tables with rows that span more than one column, or
columns that span more than one row. JAWS can provide detailed information
about
the table that can help you navigate and get oriented. If you do not want to
hear this information, press INSERT+V, select "Table Description," and press
the SPACEBAR to choose "Off." This setting is retained even after you quit
Word.

While Table Description is on, JAWS informs you when you move into a
non-uniform table. You can then press INSERT+F1 to learn more about the
table. If the
table contains merged columns, JAWS says, "At least one cell in this table
spans more than one column." If the table contains merged rows, JAWS says,
"At
least one cell in this table spans more than one row."

Tables with Merged Columns

If a table has merged cells that span one or more columns and Table
Description is on, JAWS announces when the number of columns changes as you
move from
row to row with ALT+CTRL+UP or DOWN ARROW. For example, in a table with
eight columns, if you move from a regular cell to a cell that spans five
columns,
JAWS says, "Number of columns changed from eight to four."

If you set a row to be used for column headers that contains a non uniform
number of cells, JAWS cannot properly associate the column headers. For
example,
if you have a table with eight columns, but the first row contains only four
cells, and you assign that row for column headers, JAWS does not read the
column headers, but only states the position within the table.

If the first or last rows contain differing numbers of cells from the other
rows in a table, it may not be possible for JAWS to identify the top or
bottom
of a column. In this case, if you use the commands to move to the top or
bottom of a column, ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+UP ARROW and ALT+CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW,
JAWS
announces that the move cannot be made, and the insertion point is not
moved.

Tables with Merged Rows

A table may have columns that span multiple rows. JAWS does not indicate
when you have moved from a regular cell into a cell that spans multiple
rows. In
addition, you cannot use ALT+CTRL+UP or DOWN ARROW to navigate a table with
merged rows. If the table also has both merged rows and merged columns, you
may not be able to use ALT+CTRL+RIGHT or LEFT ARROW to navigate the table
either. Instead, use TAB and SHIFT+TAB to move through the table cells.

Creating Accessible Tables

You can create accessible tables for JAWS 6.0 or later solely by using
functionality available in Microsoft Word. This means that even those who do
not
use JAWS can mark table row and/or column headi

Under the Tools menu there is an item for envelops and labels. You have to
go in and move to the labels tab. There is a way in there to select the label
layout. I believe there is one for business cards. If he has already bought
the laser printer card stock to print the cards on, he need to get the number
off of the cards, or the package.

Let me know if you have more questions.

I am having a problem with Word 2000. I use XP Home, JAWS 6.0, Outlook
Express and Word 2000.
For some reason, when I am in a Word Document, either reading one or
creating one, when I press the alt key for menus, JAWS is silent.
Maneuvering with the Say Line and JAWS cursor, I can get things done,
usually, but in a very laborious way which also wastes valuable time.

I am sure that I must have accidentally checked or unchecked some setting
somewhere. Have I given enough information for anybody to recognize what
could be going on and how I can fix it?
Thanks always.

It is my understanding that the only way to get the voices is to purchase JAWS

Greetings bill,

I was able to select moldable items in an extended list box when performing
the following steps, but keep in mind I am running XP pro, JAWS 8 and IE 7.
Give it a try and please let us know if it worked.

To make multiple selections in a extended list box:
1. navigate to the extended list box and tap enter to turn on forms mode .
2. Press SHIFT+F8 to turn on Multi-Select mode.
3. Use UP and DOWN ARROW to move through the list, and press SPACEBAR to
make your selections.
4. Press SHIFT+F8 to turn off Multi-Select mode again when you have all the
desired items selected. Note/You can now precede with completing the form

HTH,
Andrew

What I've run into is a web page with an extended list box where it should

anybody offer advice?

[JAWS-Users] Re: using an external numpad with Jaws

2006-12-15 Thread ANDREW GODWIN
I copied the below info from:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_downloads/jaws.asp

Note: JAWS 7.10.500 or later does not support Windows 98 or ME. If your
computer runs either operating system, you should use JAWS version 7.10.452 or
earlier instead.

  Jason,
There shouldn't be any problem with using your external numb lock keypad,
just plug and play.
However, Jaws does not support Windows ME after version 5.1.

  Hi everyone,
I just bought myself an external USB numpad to use with Jaws on my laptop. I
have actually put off using my laptop, as have found the laptop key strokes
awkward. I was glad to learn on this list, that an external numpad was
available. My question is, do I need to do, or know, anything in order to get
the best use of the numpad with Jaws? I heard some list members having trouble
with their numpads. My laptop is running Windows ME and I am about to install
Jaws 7.0 and Jaws 8.0. I am going to install Jaws 7.0 as well as 8.0, as I
still haven't worked with Jaws 8.0 yet, to know how well it works.
Look forward to hearing your replies.
  Jason
