[JAWS-Users] Re: GAMES FOR THE BLIND

2007-05-28 Thread Shirley P. Rodriguez

Do you have anything that maybe when we are blue, we have some where or some
one to talk too. This would be greatly appreciated. I have been blind for
19 years and sometimes it can get real heavy, trying to learn all over
again, this can get real real hard.

Thank you very much. The sleep mode has been reversed. Your directions were

Hi Shirley,

It is very unlikely that installing version 11 will cause your present
scanner not to work. The actual scanning is done by the scanner and its
drivers, itself; it is the OCR that Kurzweil does. To attempt to resolve
the Kurzweil 1000 JAWS Configuration problem:

1. From anywhere, open Configuration manager with Insert+6 (that's number
6), [and assuming that the Insert key is your 'JAWS' key - The JAWS key is
the relevant operator.]

2.  Hit Ctrl+o to open;

3. In the list view of files, keep hitting the letter k until Kurzweil 1000
is highlighted.

4. Open it then. (You are opening the Kurzweil1000.jcf.)

5.  Hit Alt+s for Set Options; and the letter a for Advanced;

6. There now is a checkbox, sleep mode enabled, checkbox checked. hit
spacebar to uncheck it.

7. Tab over to ok your changes. and hit enter.

8. Hit Ctrl+s to save the change, or agree to save on the way out when you
press alt+f4 to exit the Configuration manager.
And finally:

9. Contact your friendly Kurzweil 1000 tech support to fix your problems
associated with K1000 installation, and scanner.

Hi Becky you have to do the following:
go in to the folder that you want to alphabeticalise
now go to the view menu
now your looking for an option that says arrange icons by: and you have to
press enter on that or right arrow on that and it will take you to another
list of different ways to arrange your folder
arrow down the list your probably find it's already alphabeticallised the
list but it's done it the other way so you press enter on, Name, if it
already says Name checked, this means knowing you've already found it's in
order but the other way round then pressing enter on Name even if it is
already selected will take you back in to the folder and your find it would
of put it the way you want it with numbers at the top followed by a and so
on.

[JAWS-Users] Using Jaws versions at AllInPlay

2007-03-28 Thread Shirley Junge

Good Afternoon!
For those of you who use JAWS at AllInPlay, I would really appreciate your
feedback. I assumed that JAWS 8 would function similarly or perhaps even
better than my favorite version of JAWS. The greatest difference is apparent
when I play Crazy 8. I like to play fast, and when I use JAWS 5.1, the keys
respond fantastically, with no hesitation whatsoever.
Now when I use the latest upgrade added to version 8, it's a whole different
scenario. I need to change the typing echo setting to none, and even then
the keys are sluggish and believe it or not, the enter key is usually spoken
and requires more pressure. I'm serious, and no- I have not had anything to
drink. I know it sounds strange, but it's the truth, the whole truth, and
nothing but the truth.
Okay now, would the verbosity settings for that one game be different for
each version of JAWS? I've compared the two, and there are additional items
listed in 8, but I cannot find anything significant enough to cause such a
difference in the performance of the key reaction. I am always extremely
apprehensive to make setting changes, but I did follow the advise of a tech
support guy from FTP and uninstall and reinstall the game package this
morning. I held my breath, but 5.1 still works great and 8 has not been
cured. I compared the option page and that is the same for both.
Obviously, if no one has any words of wisdom, I will continue using 5.1.
Perhaps 8 needs extensive medical attention, because it is reluctant to
surface after I close 5.1. There could be some petty rivalry going on within
my tower.
I'll wait a day or two to address my next challenge to the minds of the
computer whizzes! It's comforting to know there are people just a few
keystrokes away that actually understand all this stuff.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
For now...Shirley

[JAWS-Users] A CDEX installation question

2007-02-09 Thread Shirley Junge

Good Morning,

I thought I would follow the instructions given at Blind Corners to setup
CDEX by myself, but I have been given this message, and it won't allow me to
close the window without taking action. Which should I choose? I have copied
the prompt, which is: :

Use the Native NT SCSI library driver option instead?
Yes No

Becky was such a considerate gal, sending me the link and information

character regrets being assertive, and is truly perplexed. I should have
waited, but hopefully one of you will help me resolve this matter.

Thanks in advance.

[JAWS-Users] Copying songs from a CD

2007-02-07 Thread Shirley Junge

Good Morning!

I'm probably missing the obvious, but I'll take a deep breath and ask what
may be the most basic question of the year. I tried to copy selected songs
from one of my CDs last night, and could not seem to understand the process.
This whole music adventure is new to me, so forgive my ignorance.

I have a vast collection of music, and my current project is to compile only
the songs I really enjoy hearing, and then burning them to CD. Could someone
please explain the procedure, and/or tell me what to read to understand how
to rip a song or two from a CD and place it into a folder for future use?

I do have Roxio Easy CD Creator, and if Victor would be kind to this damsel
in distress, maybe he could give me an outline of the steps necessary to
burn a CD of MP3s. I've arranged transportation to purchase blank CDs today,
so as soon as I know what I'm doing, I'll rev up my PC and start managing my
music.

Thanks for any and all help in advance. It's so nice to have this list, so
self-taught computer users can ask questions and receive responses from
those of you that have all the answers, and are kind enough to share what is
stored within your knowledgeable brain cells. Too bad FS doesn't offer a
prescription for immediate stress relief for any and all computer dilemmas.

Have a terrific day!

For now...Shirley

[JAWS-Users] Thanks for the information

2007-02-07 Thread Shirley Junge

Good Evening,

Before I call it a day, I want to thank those of you who responded to my
request for help with the process of ripping and burning a CD. I got a bit
sidetracked this afternoon, and have not had time to experiment. I had
downloaded but not installed cdex170beta2, but based on David's comments, I
will check on the version he mentioned. The Roxio program that is on my
system just happens to be 5, so that could be a good thing.

Again, thanks for the information and recommendations. As soon as time
allows, I will report back, either to declare my triumphant success, or ask
for further assistance.

For now...Shirley

[JAWS-Users] Re: Burning a Cd with Media Player

2007-02-03 Thread Shirley Junge
After I posted the message last night, I did some additional searching for
information about Media Player, and were able to delete all the items listed.
Apparently Media Player keeps a library of what has been played, unless you set
it to do otherwise. At least I did resolve that problem. Today I will give the
burning process a whirl again.

It may be wise for me to ask you people what CD burning software you use. I
have no objections to purchasing a program, if it is simple to use with JAWS.

Have a nice day, and thanks for your reply.

Where did the files originally come from? Perhaps some DRM (Digital Rights

such. How are you 'clicking the icon', next to each item in the 'burn list'?

[JAWS-Users] Burning a Cd with Media Player

2007-02-02 Thread Shirley Junge

Hello fellow JAWS users!

David suggested that I send this message to the list, so here it is. Today
was my first adventure into the world of burning a CD, and I felt confident
following the instructions available on the JAWS-Users web site. Hopefully,
someone can answer my questions, or at least help me understand what needs
to be done. This is what I initially sent to David, along with my thanks for
the audio tutorial pertaining to message rules for Outlook Express.
***
I also appreciate your instructions about burning CDs with Windows Media
Player. I was hesitant to experiment, but decided to give it a whirl. I had
no problem burning my first two CDs; however, now I am being given the
following message when I reach the point of the prompt to start the burning
process:

Windows Media Player Close Button
It is not possible to burn this list of files because all of the files have
errors or are missing burn rights. To learn more about the problems, click
the icon next to each file in the burn list. OK button

If my memory is correct, there were 502 in the list, which seems to be
everything I have played with this program. I tried to determine what the
error prompt referred to, or how to clear the items in this Burn list, but
no luck with either.

That's my problem. Perhaps I should use a different program. Any and all
suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

For now...Shirley
