[JAWS-Users] Re: the latest JAWS update

2007-05-16 Thread Cathy
Will this fix work when trying to read a message too. I can not get it to read
any of my messages, so had to go back to an earlier version, and I will tell
you now, the older version is acting funny too, but is manageable to work with,
but would like a version that will work with out problems. I went back to
version 5.1 because that was the one that wasn't giving me any problems, but
now it is acting funny after keeping the latest version on the computer. I
thought I would just leave it on until there is a fix for the newest version,
but if I can get the new version to work with outlook express both reading and
replying and forwarding messages and just writing new ones I would be happy.
Help if any one can.

[JAWS-Users] the latest version of jfw and outlook express,

2007-05-13 Thread Cathy
Hi:
I finally updated to the latest version of jfw, and I had to go back to an
early version of jfw because it locked up my e-mail completely. I tried to
read my e-mail. I could read the subject lines when arrowing down to the
message, but once I hit inter on the message, nothing, and I had trouble
getting out of the message once in the message. There was no reading my
message and the escape key wasn't the way I got out of the message. Is there
something I can do to get jfw to read the messages and perform properly. I am
running xp home version.

I tried to down load it off of the disk I received in the mail on Friday, and
could not get it to load at all, so I was told to go to the web site and down
load it off of Freedom, which I did, and was able to install it with no
problem, but now can't read the mail in my in box with that version.

Trying not to take this thread off track, I am experiencing the same situation

I don't know what is going on either.

I've had no problems with receiving JAWS Users List messages, however.

  Stu,
I'm not a moderator but I did want to share some information. I am on
another Google group. For some reason, that list has experienced this same
problem. Some members are receiving emails and the remainder of the group are
not. This has been happening all of this past week. One person shared with me
to go and create a Google account, not an email account. He said that right
after doing that emails started coming in.

I seem to have a problem that I don't seem to find a solution. My bulk-Spam
folder on the web is turned off, I would rather take care of that stuff my
self. I recieved nothing from the list for 4 days, so yesterday I unsubscribe
then later in the day I subscribed, this morning Lois got messages from the
list so I know the list is up and running but still I am getting nothing. Would
one of the moderators take a look and see if something can be done to remedy
the situation. Appreciate the help.

[JAWS-Users] Re: unblocking in Outlook Express

2007-04-28 Thread cathy

Becky...

Go to Tools...Under Tools, select Message rules.

There are 3 selections under this heading. One of the headings isBlocked
Senders List.

Select this choice and then you can unblock whomever you wish.

It is self explanatory from there.

Hi folks,

I am using Jaws 7 with Xp Pro and Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.

Every time I start the program, it lands me in the tree view, but it
doesn't tell me what the tree view items are. All it reports is that it's
closed.

If I arrow up and down, Jaws says closed, closed and closed.

Does anyone know of what I can do to make CD creator 5 more accessible?

I have the scripts installed and have compiled both the application script
file and the default file, but still no joy.

I used to be able to flow through the tree view easily and know exactly
where I was at all times, but like I said, no joy anymore.

Any help would be appreciated.

Victor

I'd like to know also if there is a quicker way, all I can say is I try to

eventually but would like a quicker way!

 Hi David,

Thanks for your suggestion, however, Jaws doesn't read Local Disk C
closed, as is the case with most tree views.

As I said in my message, when I go through the tree view, all I get is
 the
word closed. Once I press the right arrow to open the particular folder,
all it says is open and nothing else.

 I can't navigate as I don't know where I'm going. You'd think I was
 blind...LOL.

Anyway, like I said, I can't imagine why this is doing this.

[JAWS-Users] virus protection

I am wondering if jaws in compatible with this virus protection program. The
name of the program is, F-Secure. I am running xp home version, and at the
moment I am running jfw 5.1 but have 6.0 and 7.0 and I am planning to get 8.0
soon. I am also running openbook 7.0 and need to know if F-Secure is
compatible with jaws and if anyone knows, is it compatible with openbook too.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by highlight the cell, but you could
consider either of these ideas if what you are trying to achieve is to make a
visual change so that a sighted person can see which cells you want changes
made in.

  1. Go to the format menu and down to cell. There is a tab in this dialog
box that will let you change the background color of the cell you were on when
you got into the dialog box.

  2. You could add a comment. I've used this feature in Word, but not in
Excel. If you think this will work for you, I could see what else I can find
out.

Am I on the right track for what you are trying to do?

The problem with this web page is that if you have JAWS running and you
enter in any of the numbers JAWS presumes that you are looking for a
 heading
level equivalent to the number you entered. You need to use the Pass Key
Through feature of JAWS; you do this by pressing JAWS Key+3 (on the
number pad). Then if you enter in the number of your choice the web site
 will act appropriately.

I suppose there are other ways around this little glitch from JAWS such as
unloading JAWS while on this web page or putting JAWS in sleep mode but
that has other ramifications that I prefer to avoid.

It's a one time thing. Here's how it works. It's called the by pass key
and all it does is allow the next key stroke to pass on through to the
application, but only that single key stroke. After that jaws returns to
 monitoring your keyboard like normal.

 Okay...dumb question?

After the insert plus 3...then do you do the same thing to return JAWS to
 its original function?

I went to the start list and restarted JAWS...this other method sounds
 easier.

How does it work on the finish part of the game?

 Hey Cathy,

Andrew told me about the Insert + the number 3 on the number row. I
 tried
 that and it works
 perfectly.

 Hey Bill,

I tried the Insert + 3 on the numpad and nothing happened. The only way
that I can get that site to
work is to unload JAWS. Am I still doing something wrong? Thanks for

The problem with this web page is that if you have JAWS running and you
enter in any of the numbers JAWS presumes that you are looking for a
 heading
level equivalent to the number you entered. You need to use the Pass
 Key
Through feature of JAWS; you do this by pressing JAWS Key+3 (on the
number pad). Then if you enter in the number of your choice the web
 site
 will act appropriately.

I suppose there are other ways around this little glitch from JAWS such
 as
unloading JAWS while on this web page or putting JAWS in sleep mode
 but
that has other ramifications that I prefer to avoid.

 Hello list,
I am having a difficult time reading this web page with jaws. This is a
billboard count down page listing the currant top 50 songs. When I try to read
this page my jaws becomes so slow that when I arrow down it doesn't speak. My
son who is sighted can view this page with no problem. Below I have pasted the
link to this page so that you all can check it out. I would like to know if
anyone else using jaws can view this page with no problems. After viewing this
page I hope someone can help me figure out this problem. I would really like
to be able to read this page. I am running jaws 6, and I have windows XP home.
Your help with this would really be appreciated!
 Here is the link,

 Take care,
 Lisa

[JAWS-Users] Re: Organize favorites; help

2007-01-14 Thread cathy

Rich,

I was glad to see your question.

I found myself in the same situation.

I knew how to use this featurebut, found that it did not work with my
current set upas I had known it to work.

I followed the first set of directions that Victor gave...and they worked.

I went into the Favorites menu then hit the applications button.

There is a list of commands from which you may choose.

I am working from a lap top, so, my location of the applications key is at a
different place than a desk top layout. But, the directions worked the
same.

I tried this but could not find the sort by button.
While in I.E. I hit the menu bar to get to favorites then hit the
application key. This didn't work.

So, I hit on organize then hit the application key.
Every way I tried, I could not arrow or tab to get the sort by button.
Would that button be anywhere else?

Thanks again.

Hi Rich,

Just open up the favourites menu, then press the applications key to the
left of the right control key.

Once you do this, Jaws may not speak that the applications menu is open,
but don't worry, just arrow up or down and you'll find it is open.

Once you find that it is open, just arrow up to sort by, then arrow to
name and press enter.

This will organize your favourites menu into alphabetical order.

If, on the other hand you want to place them in folders, I would suggest
you do it via the favourites folder on your hard drive, as opposed to
doing it through the menus.

I just find it easier and less frustrating.

To do this, just go into your my computer, under the c: drive, then into
documents and settings, then to your name, or the name of the default
user on the computer, usually, that's your name, then pressing enter on
the favourites folder. At this point you'll be able to create folders
and move your existing favourites into existing folders just by cutting
and pasting.

Again, this is just my preference, and others may find it easier another
way.

Victor

 John,

The control panel should be in your start menu. It might be under
settings, but should be listed there someplace.
It may also be listed in the My Computer.
Once you get to the control panel, you will probably want to tab to,
switch to classic view and press your spacebar.

Assuming that you have your display settings correctly configured, have
you checked to see if there are new display drivers available for your

I'm not sure where you are typing in, d:\.
When you put in the XP upgrade CD, it should automatically start the
