[JAWS-Users] Re: Organize favorites; help
Hi guys; This has been very helpful. I am not sure why , or what putting favorites in different folders would do. My impression is that favorites are just web sites that can be accessed quickly. What are some suggestions on putting them in different folders? How would this be helpful? Thank you for the help. [JAWS-Users] Re: Organize favorites; help
If you wanted to organize your favorites by topic: Say for example you have a number of favorites that are streams of radio stations, you might want to put them in a 'radio' folder. Or if you have a number of favorite dictionaries, you might want to have them in a dictionaries folder. The criteria for different folders can be anything you fancy. Personally, I tend to put them all together, while renaming some of them to make them more convenient to find and remember. - Original Message - From: Rich Hamel To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, January 15, 2007 1:54 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: Organize favorites; help Hi guys; This has been very helpful. [JAWS-Users] Re: Organize favorites; help
Hi Rich, I can understand why you are asking why it would be necessary to put favourites in different folders, and, truth be told, I was asking myself the same question when I first became a blind computer user. The fact is, over time, the number of favourites mount up to a substantial amount. For example, it's been a while since I cleaned up my favourites folder, and I have a total of 99 items in there. So, if I wanted to go to a bank that I access on the internet, I usually press the letter S for the name that I labelled my bank with, that being Scotia Bank, however, I have to press the letter S several times, as the number of favourites I have beginning with the letter S numbers in the twelves, so can you imagine pressing the letter S twelve times when you're pressed for time and have to go? The fact is, folders allow you to put similar links into one place, you don't have to use so many keystrokes to get at the one you're looking for. Hope this helps. [JAWS-Users] Re: Organize favorites; help
Rich - 1. Open the submenu you want to sort. I'm pretty sure that you have to do this on a submenu-by-submenu basis. 2. Press the Applications key. Press UP ARROW twice until you hear Sort by Name. Press ENTER. There is a registry hack that will sort _all_ of your Favorites and submenus at one time, but I don't remember what it is and I hesitate to give out registry hacks on a list where the range of experience is as wide as it is on this list. - Original Message - From: rich hamel [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, January 14, 2007 1:05 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Organize favorites; help I have JAWS 6.0 and XP. I tried this but could not find the sort by button. While in I.E. I hit the menu bar to get to favorites then hit the application key. This didn't work. So, I hit on organize then hit the application key. Every way I tried, I could not arrow or tab to get the sort by button. Would that button be anywhere else? Thanks again. [JAWS-Users] Re: Organize favorites; help
Rich, I was glad to see your question. I found myself in the same situation. I knew how to use this featurebut, found that it did not work with my current set upas I had known it to work. I followed the first set of directions that Victor gave...and they worked. I went into the Favorites menu then hit the applications button. There is a list of commands from which you may choose. I am working from a lap top, so, my location of the applications key is at a different place than a desk top layout. But, the directions worked the same. A quicker way to get to the favorites folder is: 1. Press windows key R 2. Type in favorites and press enter. 3. This puts you directly in your favorites folder and then you can put them in to folders if you like.
