What kind of screen to you have on it?

I know this has been asked and answered before however, I need to know now.
What is the difference between stand by, hibernate and sleep mode? I have a
laptop with all of these features and don't understand the purpose of them.

Do you have an external display connected to your computer? My laptop is
connected to an external display that has a higher resolution then
my laptop LCD display, and when I change to the external display I get symptoms
like this unless the pixel settings are set the same on both the External
