[JAWS-Users] Re: turning off the monitor-Wizmo

2007-03-05 Thread Stu

I put wizmo on the lap top and I put it in the windows directory, didn't put
the shortcut on the desktop but I go to the run dialog type in Wizmo space
then either blackout or monoff either works and the screen goes off but when
I hit any key the screen comes back on. Is their any way to keep the screen
off while I am doing something on the lap top?

Hi Stu,
If you don't come up with a solution from the computer itself,
I believe you can use Wizmo to blank the screen.

Since jaws tells me everything I need to know and I can't see the screen
anyhow I always keep the monitor off on the desktop and if I have a sighted
person here that needs to see it it is no problem to turn it on. Now for the
question I have, I have a laptop I use at church and I was curious if their
is a way to turn off the screen. I think it is a distraction for the people
when I am teaching Sunday school or at times when I am doing the Sunday

You don't run the program as normal. you make a shortcut to wizmo and put it
someware then edit the properties of that shortcut to meat your actions such
as this C:\3archives\programs\wizmo.exe wizmo reboot that will tell my
computer to reboot if I hit enter on it.

Well, I don't even get a chance to install it. When I activate the
executable file, I get a dialogue of why the program was created and
an exit button, but no next, setup or anything else.
I can only read the information by using the Jaws cursor, so was only
 wondering what I am missing.
I know, I know, I am missing the setup button.

[JAWS-Users] Re: turning off the monitor

2007-03-03 Thread Denny Huff

There probably is a command to either turn off your monitor, or at least
turn down the brightness.
But it depends on what brand you are using.
For a Dell, you can do a function key down arrow to dim the brightness, but
don't know of any command to actually turn it off.
On a Sony you can do a function key f5 to dim it, but again, no command to
actually turn it off.
If you have someone sighted to look at your functions keys along the top,
you should see a picture telling you how you can use that key along with the
function key.
Don't be confused, the functions keys across the top, f1 - f12, or different
than the stand alone function key located elsewhere on your keyboard.

On both my Dell laptops, the keyboard Function key +F8 cycles the video
display output from Laptop, to Laptop and External, to external only, and
finally back to Laptop. All of my Toshibas that I have used over the years
have had a similar key combination.

Usually, keys that work with the keyboard Function key are coded with a
different colored image. Have a sighted person look at the keyboard and see
if they can find an icon on a key that represents a video display and
matches the color on the keyboard Function key.

[JAWS-Users] Re: turning off the monitor

2007-03-03 Thread Annette Carr

Interesting that you say that. I've never had a problem with using that
function until my Dell Latitude D420. When the laptop is in the docking
station and I switch the display to external only, JAWS is not happy. If I
leave it on both laptop and external, JAWS is fine. Now I have not tried
using the external monitor with the docking station, so I am not sure if
that will change how JAWS responds.

[JAWS-Users] Re: turning off the monitor

2007-03-03 Thread Denny Huff

Actually, I am trying to create a Jaws training document for a presentation
I'm doing in April and switching back to the email messages to give me a
break.
Having different responses to a question is good since it gives different
options for the same question.
We all do things different on here and it all depends on what a person gets
used to doing.
Sometimes I think that having just one way to perform a function would be
good and then it wouldn't get so confusing to a new user. But then it is
nice to have that selection on how to do a task.

Don't be confused, the functions keys across the top, f1 - f12, or different
than the stand alone function key located elsewhere on your keyboard.

question I have, I have a laptop I use at church and I was curious if their
is a way to turn off the screen. I think it is a distraction for the people

Rick,
Have you tried Wizmo?
I downloaded it and tried to install it, but the only option I see is an

Any suggestions?

[JAWS-Users] Re: turning off the monitor

2007-03-03 Thread Denny Huff

Well, I don't even get a chance to install it. When I activate the
executable file, I get a dialogue of why the program was created and an exit
button, but no next, setup or anything else.
I can only read the information by using the Jaws cursor, so was only
wondering what I am missing.
I know, I know, I am missing the setup button.

You don't run the program as normal. you make a shortcut to wizmo and put it
someware then edit the properties of that shortcut to meat your actions such
as this
C:\3archives\programs\wizmo.exe wizmo reboot
that will tell my computer to reboot if I hit enter on it.
