Hi Sarah, had a listen to some of your tutorials. However, I didn't come
across, how to change my status from online, to offline or busy etc. In your
tutorial on setting up an account(I think it was), I heard a status option.
However, I have been unable to find it.
thanks Jason

You never get PowerPoint as standard with XP - only as part of an Office
application bundle or conceivably as part of individual purchase.
However Microsoft provide a free PowerPoint Viewer. The last version I knew
was available was 2003 and a quick check on Google appears to confirm this
is
go to alt file and arrow down until you come to an on line sub menu and then
enter on what you want.

Now then. People have been writing and speaking of ASCII when they probably
mean ANSI - which is what JAWS understands. ASCII is the older code, and is
got with the numlock on, the alt key held down, then the code in digits for
whichever alphanumeric character is to be typed, by the numpad.
Oh, I apologize. Stupid me being impatient! Please disregard my last

Thank you David.
I think it worked.
I downloaded textpal and was able to open the ppt attachment.
Textpal read the text but I don't think that the ppt pictures would show on
the screen as if Power point was working.
There was a ton of information on the Textpal web site that seemed a bit

I'm a little confused. When muting JAWS, that's not the same as unloading
JAWS, correct?
If that's the case, if you mute JAWS and then let a sighted person use your
computer, they may run into problems. I say that because when JAWS is
running, and when I let a sighted person use the computer,
You are correct my friend. I only mute jaws so I do not for example when
listening to yahoo/video news hear pages loading or if I want to skip
through music without jaws talking etc etc etc. But this is only for me.
When I turn my computer over to a sighted person I always unload jaws.

Correct that is not the same.

I'm a little confused. When muting JAWS,
I made my hotkey to mute jaws Insert M. It works like I want. However, insert
along with another letter key usually does something within jaws. Did I over
ride a known jaws hotkey?
Visit the JAWS Users List home page at:

No, insert and m does not do anything usually in jaws, that is what my
hotkey is for muting jaws also.

I do same, better unloading jaws rather than going for muting option if 2nd
user whom is sighted would like to use your PC..
but then optional cases if just for temporarily silent, just a while, muting
option is good enough..means it's up to what situation we are in, I guess..
Cheers, RYU.
ok I didn't even think of that.
Thanks for letting me know.

George, here you go. It's surprisingly easy.
1. While on your message list, not in a message, press Alt T, for the Tools
menu.
2. Locate the Message Rules option, that's usually an M but you can arrow
down to it.
When you find that option, press Enter.
3. Using your up and down arrows,
Hi, Chris. If someone needs to use my computer for one reason or another, I
just unload jaws. One time one of my nephews was helping me with something
and he said the speech was bugging him. I got a little upset with him and
told him I wanted to hear what was going. He said he could see
No that doesn't seem to be an issue hear for what ever reason.
